The Big Book of Reiki Symbols: The Spiritual Transition of Symbols and Mantras of the Usui System of Natural Healing by Mark Hosak
The Big Book of Reiki Symbols
The Spiritual Tradition of Symbols and
Mantras of the Usui System of Natural Healing
by Mark Hosak and Walter Lubeck
When they say big book they mean it, 671 pages of intense and much needed information on the Usui system of Reiki. I have always been intrigued by the symbols and I just had the feeling that there was a lot more than met the eye, and I was right. These guys have really gone out of their way to provide seekers such as myself, with a much broader and show more well rounded view. And if that wasn't enough, there is info on chakras, mantras and they go on to answer a myriad of spirit based questions in such a simple and concise way that it helped me be more at ease with my internal growth process and in touch with wiser more evolved parts of myself.
I also learned there were mudras attached to the whole thing, and I got very excited when I saw the illustrations and pictures describing exactly how to do the different positions. I read this totally enlightened instruction for awakening the soul, and it just made my day. I plan to print it out and put it on my wall so I can read it often as part of my daily practice. I would recommend this all encompassing completely satisfying labor of love to anyone interested in Reiki and different paths of spiritual development. Thank you for all the research that went into this greatly needed ambassador of light.

Reiki Best Practices: Wonderful Tools of Healing for the First, Second and Third Degree of Reiki by Walter Lübeck
in 2003, Lubeck, having established a 'rainbow reiki' collaborated with Petter to present a bunch of techniques adapated to 'western reiki'. It's a bit of an odd collaboration as petter's first comments are that Reiki is NOT a technique. at least most chapters are designated by author. also by that time, Traditional Japanese reiki was getting out, so this may well serve as a time capsule for a place and a particular time in reiki evolutionl.
This was an interesting collaboration at the time. Two learned reiki masters riffing on different aspects of practise and coming into reiki - their chapters are mostly identified as to whose philosophy you're reading - lots of thoughts about initiations and symbols and the nature of reiki energy. Then there are a mess of different techniques and practises, all attributed - many are from Lubeck's 'Rainbow Reiki'. there's much to delve into in this text even with or without the rainbow reiki show more emphasis. show less
in 2001 this was a major work, revolutionary for having three prominent reiki masters as authors, working 'together'. really, knowledge of japanese reiki had only come to the west two years previous and having three masters with their own practises and careers collaborate was relatively profound. Many aspects of traditional japanese reiki are covered with each author taking his own section. This makes the work a little disjoint as the writing styles are distinct and maybe not so cohesive. show more But these materials stand as expository of first seeds of traditional japanese reiki practise in the west. show less
