- Michael Denneny was the first openly gay people working in publishing, and he was an important influence. He published early queer works such as The Homosexuals : Who and What We Are by Alan Ebert and ntozake shange's for colored girls who have considered suicide/ when the rainbow is enuf. He cofounded the magazine Christopher Street. In the late 1980s, he launched the Stonewall Inn imprint at St. Martin's.
