A fabulous and fun coffee table book featuring snazzy art, wonderful artist facts and some really clever cocktails. I think I'll start with a Mondrian and maybe follow it up with an Ono.

We picked up this fun little cocktail book (illustrated) while visiting the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. Each cocktail is named after an artist, with a brief biography of that artist included.

Andy is on the cover. Have we tried making the cocktail named after him? Not yet. As with many of the recipes in this book, it calls for special techniques or specialty liqueurs. Need to dehydrate tomato slices for the garnish, and make a tomato simple syrup. So, with advance planning, such as for a party, some of these drinks would be fun.

Some of the liqueurs are hard to find such as Chartreuse or Goldschlager. And one drink calls for activated charcoal. Hmm. As it turns out, the author is Canadian, so maybe those components are easier to find there than here in state-controlled Pennsylvania liquor stores.

I will say, though, that the recipe for the Diego Rivera is pretty darn good and even if I don't try any of the others in the book, buying it was still worth it :-) .

Pros:
Well informative
Interesting color schemes

Cons:
Disorganized. Like weird interceptions of other artists icons that kind of threw me off after the first chapter.
I think some icons should have gotten actual chapters, like Prada versus Frida as I said in my status update.

Thoughts:
I know some people complained about cultural appropriation, but Cleopatra's race is heavily debated and unknown so I don't think it matters if a white or black person plays her. I also don't think the Madonna thing was a big deal, I've noticed most people who are upset about hair styles anyway are white people who do not even know the cultural that they are supposedly defending.

I do wish that she had wrote about different race icons. We got some cool people who weren't white but they were subjected to the shorter pages or just 1 chapter dedicated.
