Ce prix a été créé en 1997, à l’instigation de Madame Elina Pauwels, veuve de l’écrivain Louis Pauwels.
Depuis 2007 il est décerné par la Société des Gens de Lettres et attribué à show more un écrivain francophone auteur d’un "essai qui manifeste un esprit d’ouverture dans le débat d’idées, faisant place à la morale, l’esthétique, la philosophie, la science, la spiritualité et les questions de société, dans le monde contemporain ou dans l’Histoire".
Doté de 4 575 €, le Prix Pauwels est remis chaque année au mois de Mai à l'hôtel de Massa, siège de la SGDL. show less
