Character description

Count Hans Axel von Fersen (1755-1810) was a Swedish diplomat, courtier, military officer, and statesman. He served with distinction in the American Revolutionary War before being posted to France. He was a favorite at court and had a friendship with Queen Marie Antoinette that may also have been romantic. He was instrumental in arranging the ill-fated escape attempt in 1791 known as the Flight to Varennes.
