A Peranakan Chinese widow living in Singapore. The Peranakan are descendents of Chinese immigrants to the Malay Archipelago and British Malaysia (now Malaysia and Singapore.)Rosie was happily married to M. L. Lee, a widower with two children, Mark and Mildred (the latter lives in England.)  She has a picture of him in every room in the house, and often talks to one of them.   She considers herself the caretaker for her stepchildren of the fortune that there father left.   Although wealthy enough to live a life a leisure, Rosie prefers to run a restaurant, take-out, and catering service known as Aunty Lee's Delights. Her goal is to preserve Peranakan cooking, which she defines as whatever she cooks. She uses a mixture of traditional and up-to-date measures: whatever works best. She is assisted by Nina Balignasay, a Filipina nurse whose residence in Singapore is of dubious legalityM.L. Lee dotingly called his wife kiasu, kaypoh, em zhai se'  (tireless, fearless, busybody).  Rosie is very nosy, and considers herself related to anyone who eats her food, thus justifying her interfering in their lives. Her frequent gifts of delicious food do much to reconcile them to her meddling. (English, Unclassified)
