That is a great article, Kath. That mother deserves an award ... she's absolutely right .. it's just a costume .... and he did look very cute! Would those other stupid bullying mothers also object if their husbands or brothers dressed up as pregnant nuns or drag queens during Halloween? I hate narrow mindedness in people.

I bet the other kids in his class didn't laugh at him!

(I have post-it notes that say, "Does running late count as exercise?")

Have a great weekend!

54mckait
Nov 6, 2010, 6:24 am

So the thing is..

I have some family business that I am waiting to have wrapped up.
I have been waiting for some time now, but it is all out of my hands, I am a peripheral player in the situation. This was supposed to be done by this weekend. I was going to take monday as a mental health day / personal business day. Due to circumstances beyond my control, it will be several more days before things are sorted. This was/is very frustrating to me. For one thing, I want all of this mess to be over and done, and for another... I wanted my long weekend/mental health day. I have been promising it to myself for weeks now.

I may have over reacted to thing but... you have heard about the proverbial last straw? well...

Thanks for the party all.. and welcome!

#2 LEONARDO DICAPRIO MAY BE BOTH THE GREAT GATSBY AND THE DEVIL IN THE WHITE CITY

Director Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge) is currently casting his next movie after Australia through a series of script readings. That movie will be an adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, the author's classic tale of life during the "Roaring 20s." The Great Gatsby has been adapted to film and TV a few times previously, most notably in 1949 (starring Alan Ladd and Shelley Winters) and in 1974 (starring Robert Redford, Mia Farrow and Sam Waterston). For the roles of Jay Gatsby and Nick Carraway, Luhrmann is doing the readings with real-life, long time pals Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire, who Luhrmann hopes to cast in the roles of Jay Gatsby and Tom Buchanan.
This wasn't the only news this week for Leonardo DiCaprio, however, as the actor's Appian Way production company has also come aboard to produce the long-in-development adaptation of the Erik Larson non-fiction book The Devil in the White City. In addition to producing, DiCaprio will star as H.H. Holmes, a serial killer masquerading as a "charming doctor who is believed to be responsible for scores of murders around the time of the 1893 Chicago World's Fair." Holmes designed the World's Fair Hotel, complete with a crematorium and a gas chamber, which he used to lure victims into murderous traps. During the novel's long road to the big screen, past people who considered adapting The Devil in the White City included director Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) and Tom Cruise, who also would have produced and starred.

Nov 8, 2010, 5:22 am

All y'all ( as my friend Jan used to say) make me smile.

ok.. A stretch limo for the Dark Shadows movie for sure..
Popcorn and champagne all around. Wouldn't it be fun to see together ?
Then chill out after at a nice bookstore coffee shop with stacks of books
everywhere?

The washer did give me some trouble on saturday.. but managed to avoid being sucked up by it. It is a front loader and sometimes it just doesn't spin right. I hate it. I may put it in the back yard and use it as a burning barrel.

I did read. I read about half of Mary Sutter. I am liking it, but so far, I don't like her much. Maybe that will change... but..

So, it wasn't the Monday you wanted, but you made it thru! Good job, Kath.

Then forgot to put the chicken back in the fridge........had to throw it out this morning. not happy.

Wondering why poor sad dogs locked up in a shelter are supposed to make up for the Merle's Door thing?? Poor babies.. At least it was a clean shelter. :(((((

I would never forget to send the limo out for round two..
and I would have nice soft pillows to use as place savers.. Books are important, but no fun to sit on.

Claudia.. my gram used to come to my house very early in the morning and whistle louldy.. knock on the door and holler Good Morning Sunshine! :)
That made me smile

110. Wicked Plants by Amy Stewart

I found this to be an interesting and informative little book.
You can learn a lot in a short time with this quick little read.
What you may not know about potatoes, cashews, Kudzu and other
living things with roots :) I liked it a lot. 4 stars

111. The Haunting of the Presidents by Joel Martin & William J Birnes

This was my car book for a while. Most of the stories are vague and dull.
I was not impressed, spooked or even much intereted. But hey, it was a car book.. something that can be read in dribs and drabs. There were plenty of drabs, believe me! 2 stars

112. My Name is Mary Sutter by Robin Oliveira

This book had an interesting cast of characters. Not only did Mary herself have a very strong ( and self absorbed) personality, but her family was presented in a rich and pleasant way. It was very easy to be drawn into their lives from the very beginning. At first, I was very impressed by Mary's knowledge and strength. I never really lost that.

You can follow the link for more..

I had time at work today since there were no kids... and all of my work was caught up. The plant book is .. well it took me an hour. It really is a small book. I read it several days ago.

No reading time for me last night. I had a long talk with my cousin Brian
( god son) who is one of the best people ever. He took care of his mom
a few years back, when she was suffering from inflammatory breast cancer,
which spread.. including to her brain.

A few months after she, Elaine..passed, his dad came to him. He was in the last stages of bladder cancer and in kidney failure. He has been there with him since.Tom, his dad, passed on Monday.

Brian has a sister..... she is a veterinarian. She is apparently a wonderful one. I love her. She is married to a veterinarian, too. She did not help with their care.
Brian is ... a very special guy. I not only love him, but he has my undying respect and admiration. He sounds so weary..

Is Duncan a golden? He looks like a golden on your profile. Anyway, Copper loves to be brushed until I get to her back end. She hates that but she has all those long feathers (pantaloons). And I actually have an easier time trimming the cat's nails than hers. Unfortunately, Copper has to be bathed and/or fully groomed twice a month and then in the summer she loves to swim - so, it's a struggle sometimes! I hear you!

Happy Friday!

Just a quick stop for now . Amy isn't up yet.. she will be soon..
She is leaving this morning to go and look at houses.. That makes me sad, but I didn't want her to have to drive home in the dark too.. so...
And she is so much closer now!

She arrived friday night @ 10, after working all day. We had a bite to eat and then went to bed before midnight.

I woke at my usual time yesterday, and my plan was to make a pot of chili ..
I had been to the store the day before. Well... somehow, I came home without my ground beef. It was nowhere to be found. This happens now and then at this particular store. I flew back to the store and got more, as well as a couple of other things.

When I came home i started the chili and decided to wake Amy to the smell of
cooking bacon. So I put some into the oven. I make it this way often, because I hate to cook bacon. I put it on a rack on a cookie tray. I began adding things to the chili pot. I suddenly realized that there was a lot of smoke in the room.
Further investigation showed the rack had slipped just a tad, and one piece of bacon was dripping onto the oven. Sigh. Well of course I had to open the door turn off the oven and listen to the trilling of the smoke alarm.

Of course it was the smoke alarm that woke my darling girl, and she sauntered in and asked what I had set on fire. It was funny... but frustrating. So much for the perfect start to the day!So I made fresh from the farm eggs, bathed in butter and wheat toast and we all had a nice breakfast.

Then Dan set out to convince her to trade cars. It may work. More on this another time. ( Dan has a new Versa she has a crappy Jeep)

She is going to get up and leave by 9 ish today, as they have to look at houses this afternoon. She showed me the two they are looking at. One is in the perfect place. It needs a lot of work done, but would be perfect for them. Lots of trees, a park behind the fenced in yard... BUT no basement . Bad.

One is painted garish colors and has a basement... a nice one. IT is not quite as well placed to suit them. Not sure either will do.

We spent yesterday visiting my niece while she worked at her new house.
We then had a nice meal at Tinitique, a local place with many choices.
Then we went to visit my stepdad at my sister's house, and came home to relax.

IT was a nice day. I will hate to see her leave. Hopefully she will be back soon.
I may just have to go and set something on fire in a bit to rouse her.

Love the GIF Claudia :)

Nov 14, 2010, 12:03 pm

Dan's idea is a good one. In fact, if I'm lucky, I might be doing something similar this coming spring.

My mom will be paying off her car, and she's already looking forward to what she will be buying next. She was planning on trading it in to help pay for the next car...but the dealer has an offer where they will take any car, even ones that don't run, and give you a discount on a new purchase. So she offered to trade cars with me, since she'll get about the same price for either one. It won't make any difference to her and I'll get a GREAT car out of it. So...hurray. :)

Now I just have to get by until spring. No problem!

So, yeah, I love Dan's idea. Unless he just wanted to get rid of his little ol' Versa for a big COOL Jeep. *makes little boy VROOM RAAAHHMM KACHSSHSHSHSH truck noises*

192mckait

An SUV came flying down the highway behind them, hit them..spun and hit them from the front. Tom was trapped in the Cherokee. If they had been driving anything else.. they would have been very badly hurt. Or worse. As it was.. there was months of therapy and lingering effects for both of them. Both of them had Nationwide insurance. Amy didn't even get near enough to get another car and pay for therapy and days off. They even had a lawyer. I have low opinions of insurance companies of all kinds.. as I know that this is the way it is.

This is a jeep Liberty. She couldn't find a Cherokee. It is a mess. IT has left her stranded half a dozen time Neither of them have a decent car. In the next year or two.. they will be able to sort out cars.. but for now...a house is most important.we want amy to have a good dependable car. I worry about the safety of it.. but,the Versa has a good rating. Dan hates it, misses his truck, which was a gasoline hog. This way , he will get some of his truckness back, she will have a dependable car.

IT would work all around. I think she is going to do it.

I took a mental health day.. yay me!

After sitting alone in the back of a jeep as a teen (1960s) with a mean and hungry looking german shepard for a couple hours, I am not overly fond of jeeps or german shepards to this day.

I was gonna wish you a great day "off" - but I'm thinkin' it'll be more like a great day "on"! Turn on - Have fun! :)

So far so good...up at almost 7, already thinking about a nap.. lol
I am reading Final Flight an LTER and it is really good 50 pages in.
I am very glad to have received it.

jude.. it was a good idea, if I do say so myself.
Kara... you do need one. If I worked the hours you do, I would be crazy. Crazier.
Claudia... that sounds like a good story... make a note to tell it to me soon.. :)

One day will have to do, I fear... but next week is Thanksgiving, yes?
It was wonderful... there was not much I would change about today.
As for the mom and daughter day, I wish it could have been more time, but I will take it.

There will be more to come :)

Jasper would like to be in a cat gif, but I've told him no way, not until his blood glucose hits 150. He scowled.

Is Thanksgiving a mental health day??? It is for me, cuz I can just sit at home and read, but all you folks that have to run around and cook large birds for hundreds of people...

hey.. great idea Suzanne! incentive.. that's what he needs!
I love finding the cat gifs :) but
poor claudia!.. no pressure to contiinue though.. just a visit from you is enough!

Thanksgiving is a mental health day for me because
a kid or two will show up
I don't mind cooking giant birds... and I love the stuffing.
I do not need to go to work for five days in a row, so I have plenty of time to eat leftover turkey.

So.. all good :)

ok.. I heard a rumor and found out today it is true, our Sonya Green is leaving LT.
That makes me sad. She is a mystery girl who just gives me the feeling that she is nice and sweet and has things under control :(

email her to say goodbye? I think it will be nice for her to know that we will notice and miss her.

Stopping by to say: have a great day!
I love getting intimate with giant birds, turkey's that is, hmmm, gobbler's. I usually give mine a name and have a lot of fun with it. However, whenever someone (usually my mom) says the words carcass or cavity I'm ready to puke.

Hi Kath!
I think you worked the mental day and the holiday just right! You get a couple of short work weeks bracketed by family visits! Good job!
Hope your day is calm and uneventful - remember to watch your back!

Gotta bring Loki in for his annual exam today. It's pouring rain and the wind is howling. I've got till 2 o'clock to convince him to go out in it and poop!

Still warm and disgusting - but there were a few snowflakes in Sat morning forecast. I'll have to get up early so as not to miss it! :)

Hello all :) ..

Like Bahzah says... it is a great feeling to come in and see how many good friends have been visiting :)

I have about 23 pages left of Final Flight. Just have to do them and move on. I decided to talk to Claudia last night instead of read :) I then went to bed early ...long day yesterday and another ahead.

But today is thursday!!!!! woo hoo! One week until turkey day. I better buy one of those things. I work until wednesday next week, then off til the following tuesday.

I agree, it is a shame to waste those sick days, Joanne :)

I am wishing a happy day to my friends.. :) I hope someone makes you all smile today as you have me .
