15 threads! Wow! ! !

I'm at the dining room table with one kid doing math in the next room and two kids playing with Hex Bugs in the living room. Perfect atmosphere for reading threads... not much else. Later we'll go to my house and let the dogs out. I'll maybe find time to do dishes over there.

So, it goes. I bought a book today for the Kindle, but the Kindle is at home so I can't read right now. I could read a bit of The Swerve as I do have the Nook with me! Also, Jocelyn asked me to buy her the Nook version of Brave! Very nicely done, and the kids fell for it immediately.

OK. After being off LT for 4+ days, I am in a true pickle!
Do I have permission to just start here?
I skimmed your last thread and saw something about chicken in beer in slow cooker...

Srsly. Can you throw frozen chicken in the crockpot to cook it for supper? I always thought I had to have thawed meat. Can I also use frozen everything else meat?

Anyway #4 - wake Dunkers up for a minute to make sure he has not fallen into a coma! How about you take a nice awake picture of him reading and post it for us???

Hi Mamie, thanks! you are catching up.. I suspect that you are going to be moving up Paul's charts very son.

Kath, it is a closely held state secret what I do with my days post retirement parties, but you might have noticed I do find time to read, and to post on the threads of my dearest friends

Yes, life is a little slower and more peaceful today

Reading

Eldest nephew is on sofa, also reading! Outloud from time to time, enjoying a funny book

good for an 11 year old

"it is a sad day when your little brother starts to get actually smart" - quote from said funny book.

Oh that handsome shiny dude. Smooch and hugs for my nice smelling Dunkers :)
Wow! What a nose that Dunkers has! I just pulled out a Frosty Paws for Loki this afternoon - how did he smell that? OK... bring him over! Frosty Paws all around!

So... did I skim too dangerously here? No frozen chx in crockpot? Phooey! And how can they be serious about not in micro either? I have a defrost button for said chx and have used it! And I don't defrost thawed chicken :P
Nuts - this all sounds tricky. Of course, I don't thaw things right either. I just slap the frozen whatever on a plate on the counter and wait for it to be less than frosty.

Anyway, thanks Jude - for nuthin! That's not the answer I wanted :( waaahhh
(I never thought of the crock cracking tho.)

Hi Kath!
No. I am still not going to the Pinterest thing. But what's with the eggs in oven? Don't really want my oven on today, but it sounds like a trick or something.

Oh man. Last night I made for the first time ever - a frozen family size lasagna... in the oven.
It said to leave it in the container, plastic film on, at 375.
So I threw it in and walked away.
Minutes later smoke was bellowing out of my kitchen!

Hmmm. Now that I think of it, I wonder why my smoke alarm did not go off????

So I thought the cardboard pan it was in was on fire.
It wasn't that at all.
Something had spilled on the bottom of my oven and it was burning off.
Don't have any idea how that happened as I have a cookie sheet to catch drips... and this stuff was under the cookie sheet?????
Anywho, the lasagna cooked ok, but I did not like it much.
Homemade lasagna is just in a class by itself. No matter how you make it! No more of those frozen things! :P

39Matke
Jun 29, 2012, 11:43 am

Mmm...Kath's food thread: I'm liking the sound of Duncan's food pretty much.

Oh, Cee: we tried some frozen lasagna once, and only once. Since I make a big ol' pan, I can freeze my own, add a bit of sauce on the rewarm, and we're good to go.

Man, it is hot, hot hot here today. Hot.

ooooo: today I got The Second Virago Book of Fairy Tales (wrong touchstone). I was pretty pleased with that little item.

40-Cee-
Jun 29, 2012, 11:57 am

Geeze I wish I had known about the frozen lasagna being :P~
As it happened, I only had it for an emergency and it came quick with my ear infection recovery. Didn't want to cook anything crazy last night.
But wouldn't you know, Ron was out all day yesterday with a friend picking up stuff for the Fire Dept auction and by supper time they were ehausted.
Thankful I did not burn the house down, I invited David over as he lives alone and I had this big lasagna. Then when I tasted it, I felt bad. Oh I had salad and garlic bread to go with it and everyone had seconds - but now I need to invite him back for a real lasagna!
(Needless to say, Ron was glad he did not hear a fire at his own house toned out.. hehehe)

41mckait
Jun 29, 2012, 12:38 pm

smooch rd

Cee... I was just thinking ( due to a tv commercial ) about prepared foods. One time in my life I used Hamburger Helper.. lol. Just one! I too have made that lasagna.. due to lack of time and need of food. I have used a few things from Market Day. ( Their stuff is ok.. not great, but ok. )
I do buy jalapeno poppers now and then.. or Onion rings. But in general, I just make it myself. I do think that having an emergency lasagna or package of prepared something is a good idea, especially if it is bad weather or if you live on an island with no take out :)

Gail.. those struvite crystals.. I am determined to not have to deal with them again.
So, I cook for him.. I too have made a lasagna and then frozen some in a small 8-9 in
pan for future use. Summer cooking is much more challenging for me.
Fairy Tales? I have to go and look...

Oh, and Cee.. I'm glad you didn't burn the house down. The same thing happened to me recently.
I was just as mystified. No idea what spilled. I had used the oven the day before and nothing.
Weirdness. And I am sure the friend was just glad to eat. Almost anything is better with garlic bread!

I am on a rant on fb about our elected officials.. GRRRRR

Terri, we did. In our town, it wasn't too wild, but we got a little rain and

Hi Roni.. I fell asleep watching the Olympic trials for the gymnasts. They kept falling off the beam ..
rather sad state of affairs? I couldn't hear anything, due to the a/c ( and so I had the sound off). I know I said I never watch them ( and I don't, but there is nothing on tv lately, and I wanted the light from the tv )
Hope all is well with you :)

Congrats on the 75th book, Kath! And lookee...extra bonus, it was a book you liked. I'm always afraid I'll not like my 75th because you know how you set a goal and look forward to reaching it? It would be such an anti-climax to read a meh or yuck book on reaching your goal.

Too hot, too hot and muggy today. ugh!

As they say, things happen for a reason.. perhaps the perfect next owner wasn't quite ready yet? Or the people in the next perfect for you house are not quite ready to hang out the sign?

And in other news. I canceled my pre-order of Louise Penney's soon to come out book.

So for what it's worth.. ? and Yay painters :) Hooray on them :)

I love Angus. Just lurrrve him.

Not so hot today as yesterday. Still pretty difficult though. Anyway, we await rain. The kiddo in Silver Spring was fine but no power as of yesterday. No further news today. Must be awful. That's one of the reasons we moved away from FL: too many storms with various problems.

So, what do you think was the best book your read this year so far?

123mckait
Jul 2, 2012, 8:31 pm

Cee... I think Angus is 2.5? 3 ? not certain.... He was a stray... When did I get him? He was 6-8 months oldish then... He is a beauty, I have to agree :) And yep.. Owen does look a lot like Oliver.. but I think Oliver favors Kim more.. and Owen his dad....

Terri... thank you.. for all comments :)

Gail... he is, he is 5 months plus now...
Angus is a lover.. he loves being loved on :)
Not as hot here either, but going back up again soon.

Best book I have read that is published this year is The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce (LTER book) - which was good but I haven't read much that came out this year yet. I don't buy books til they are cheap which means I'll get this year's books next year ;-)

Did you mean either of these, Gail? I'd better get reading way more, way soon or this will be a bummer year for me.

Kath, I think there's a lot of melting going on in the U.S. right now. Your thread title is very appropriate.

>41 mckait:: My oldest son listed "Hamburger Helper" as his favorite food on his 'Getting to Know You' handout in 2nd Grade. I was so proud (not!) when I saw it boldly posted on the bulletin board at Open House. In my defense, I had just had baby No. 3. I think HH saved my life. Lol.

Big Congrats on reaching the 75 mark!!!

Loved the pictures. It's hard to believe that Owen is 5 months old already. Don't you just want to stop time for awhile during the baby stage?

Angus looks pretty contented taking a nap on top of those books. I may have to take a book nap today. I keep getting up earlier and earlier to try and beat the heat. It isn't working! Stay cool, my friend.

Donna.. I was just thinking about this again the other day.. Zatarain's !
It is a frequently used product here in this house... I love it :P
One of the reasons I didn't use those products is with 4 kids.. I needed more food than a
box of that would make. :P Angus.. I have been asking Dan to help me get something built for hism to climb/travel on instead of my shelves and mantel.

As if.

Anyway... I tried to tell Dan a story this morning.. about what was going on with one of the kids.
Partway through sentence number 1 he cut me off.. and said he knew blah blah. He had no idea what I was going to tell him, but because a single word was familiar to him... he was done listening. Never even knew it was a story about one of the kids. I don't want to be in the same house with him, much less go out with him later.. so..

I HATE it when he just tunes me out. I officially give up. I have been trying to talk to him more and
trying to make it more comfortable here.. but feckit. I'm done.

Thanks mamie.. I appreciate it..
I appreciate your offer too, Cee. If only

I should be immune after 41 years, eh? And it has pretty much been 41.
There were 3 years in there when he was a little more engaged with the family.
yes.. 3 yrs

I have been trying hard to talk and be easy to get along with..
but he will say "how are the kids" as he walks out the front door to smoke.
He doesn't give a damn, clearly.... but it is the right thing to say, in his mind.

I will try to talk to him about some VERY real issues and problems we are having,
and you can literally see him switching off. I will speak to him and he leans forward,
the better to hear the tv. IF I try to talk to him.. he will even look into the empty dining
room to avoid looking at me and engaging in conversation. I have just had it. ANY time
I try to talk to him he turns off and tunes out. I get no support with anything from him..
even solving problems he created.

I am just so tired of it.

I starting fighting the vortex yesterday.. this isn't helping.

Well. Amy has her power back, but her tv is broken. At least they have power and a/c.

Cory, no... not as far as I know... but he is out working, I think... so hopefully
someplace where it is cool and he can eat. Both of them can easily afford to restock the fridge.. so
no worries there. Thank goodness!

Well, poop on Dan, as I may have said before. My cousin knew it was time to leave her husband after this scene:

She is ironing. He's sitting in a chair in the den, same room. Their unmarried daughter had become pregnant and had a baby, which was a huge surprise to them, even though she was living at home (and that's another weird story...), and then the infant died after a few days. She said, "We need to talk about Peggy." He said, "Uh-huh, we do." She spoke for a few moments, awaited a response, got none, and turned around to find him sound asleep in the chair. Man...

I can't imagine living with anyone, let alone a spouse, who didn't look at me when I spoke. Ever. I'd rather be alone...we do have that lovely blue room, Kath. Really, we do.

I meant, what was your personal favorite of the reads you've done so far this year?

Welcome Sarah! I don't think I have seen you here before :) And I am glad make
the acquaintance of someone else from Wales ... Thank you for the suggestions..

Mark, I liked Night Strangers so much! I am an unashamed fan of his.
I think you would like it.

Hi Joe! I'm glad to see you, and thrilled that you are having fun in OZ!! And a meet up?
Pics?

Bonnie. he is indeed.. I adore that baby. Oh Bonnie.. It is more than the communication. It always has been.. but it just goes along until one day his absence and disinterest.. leaving home projects half done..for years.. sometimes 15 or more. And refusing to do or help with this or that. IT is always some little thing that is the last straw and sends me over the edge. Thanks Bonnie.

LOL Gail... Poop on dan.. perfect. Your poor cousin. The poor baby.. oh my god.. what a terrible thing.
I am so used to not having him look at me.. I almost left once... long story not for here. But the reality of it is, I don't think that my destination would have made me happier. I think that I had my good years, raising my kids. Now.. I'm just waiting for...? As tempting as your lovely blue room sounds... my life is what it is...
and usually I am okay with it. Also.. I'm sorry.. I didn't mean that I didn't understand your question about my books read. I just don't know how to answer. None of the books so far have been GREAT and memorable or anything.. but I have enjoyed many of them. Even the cheezy ghost mystery series, lol

Best liked .. I think I would choose

The Sounding by Carrie Salo. I liked it a lot. Creey and mysterious and well written imo. I will read her next one, too.

Best fun is the Terri Reid ghostly mysteries.. but I really liked Wicked appetite, too

Funniest would be Camptown Ladies

Top book would be The Sounding by Carrie Salo.

LOOK! a list :) and I made it for you, Gail~hugs

Lynda.. never too late to celebrate :) Owen is a beauty, I must say :)

My cousin has a grand baby who is about the same age. Her daughter in law is very upset
recently because she said the baby's eyes are changing from blue to brown . Now this is something that I never really knew if it happened or not. We all have blue eyes in my family... so.. ? But her babies
eye are changing and she doesn't want a brown eyed baby. Srsly, she said that. Wow. people.

Brown eyed babies.... I was described as very unusual in that I was born with my dark brown eyes right there, right from the start! Also, dark skin, easily tanned. I've always loved all this. Then along comes a niece who also has wonderful dark skin, easily tanned. She has spent a good deal of her young adulthood wondering why she is so dark. I was astonished! But did a little research and find my Mother's explanation very interesting: Spanish Armada.

Indeed the Celtic lands did have some Spanish influence.

Nonetheless, my point: racism is alive and well no matter how many times people claim we are past all that prejudice stuff.

I just finished hand to fire combat with the grill. Which Dan did in fact, fix.
I am not a griller. I do all the right things.. and I still get when I cook chicken. Then half the chicken is cinders and the other half raw. Sometimes on the same piece.
I also did some hot sausage which is usually a more even battle. The corn was good.
Maybe I should only cook vegies and burgers or hot dogs.

NOW I can sit down...I hope.

I love grilling and pretty much would grill all year round if I could. I grilled fish one winter while it was snowing outside ..which was kinda fun..but had to run in quick with the fish before it got cold. The hubster can't cook and neither can he grill. He tried once and was quickly and decisively fired when everything he was grilling came out either undercooked or burnt.

Odd fourth here at our house. P has been sick (just a cold, but miserable) but we went to ZooTunes last night and the Mariners game today. Still, no plans or energy for grilling dinner, which we had planned to do. So I went to the nearby grocery for some fried chicken. Not the healthiest, but it was what we were both craving. The woman at the deli got kind of discombobulated and ended up throwing all the remaining pieces of fried chicken into the box after I had asked for an "8-piece" box. I think we ended up with about 14 pieces and I had to stop her from throwing in another half dozen wings. Now what in Sam Hill are we supposed to do with fourteen pieces of fried chicken????

And they didn't even have cole slaw. :-(

191mckait
Edited: Jul 5, 2012, 9:02 am

Hope P is feeling better? Oh Ellen, you were at a grocery? they have cabbage already shredded.. you could have tossed some cole slaw together. Bet you never thought of it. That happens to me. I think of the solution too long after. But it isn't too late :) leftover chicken and cole slaw for today? I love cole slaw, but rarely have it, as Dan won't eat it. When we went to Kelly's the other night, I got a fish sandwich and cole slaw made with balsamic vinegar. I do not usually like balsamic vinegar, but that was some yummy slaw! It was also the yummiest and most unhealthy fish sandwich I have ever eaten. Fried Haddock with cheese and lettuce/tomato and tarter. yummy.

It was like a war zone here last night.. it started about 4 or so.. and built and built and by 10 pm it was continuous thundering blasts. I actually had to use my old trick of feeding Dunkers cookies during the worst of it. The kitties were none too pleased.

Anyway, it had rained the night before, and so there were no fire worries here. The usual family aimed theirs down the street right toward our house. ( they never aim them at their own. ) But they were turned in by name and address and instantly stopped... they must have been listening to the scanner too. It's online for anyone to hear... (cell phone, too )

So.. I read a book, then watched Twilight Zone.. Dan finally did study. And I went to bed @ 11 when things quieted down.

Not storms Chelle.. that doesn't bother him any more. It was ll of the fireworks and explosive odds and ends
yesterday. It went on for hours and it was too much for everyone. Always like that here on 4th.

Mamie.. Sorry they are coming at a bad time :(

I ALWAYS cook for leftovers. For one thing I need to have full meals for Dan to take to work.
Today, I am making a big salad, and will put in sliced grilled chicken from yesterday, and boiled egg. For work for him, I will send hot sausage from yesterdays grilling. I made pasta salad this morning ( simple.. pasta twists, black olives, salad dressing, salsa ( chunky) and some mixed peppers.. chopped) I will top it with jalapenos when I put it in a container. There is leftover corn to warm up quickly in the microwave.. so..

Tomorrow, just burgers.. and salad.

Kath, your fish sandwich and cole slaw dinner sounds like one I would very much enjoy! I'm a huge fan of slaw and it goes particularly well with fried fish (or fried chicken.....) ---- and yes, I could have made the slaw myself. I think I was in a very odd mood and not wanting to do anything! lol

The salad you're making today sounds good, too......

Jul 5, 2012, 10:22 am

Thanks! I sure wish you could just join me at Kelly's and eat fish and have fun :)

I am very much a think ahead kinda cook. I always have plenty of eggs..
and I make a 5 lb bag of red potatoes ( the bigger ones ) par boiled in my fridge. ( &Often, boiled eggs. )
There are a lot of things you can do with them, including .. finish boiling and mash or fry or potato salad or?
Anything. They keep better cooked, and you are halfway to any potato side dish. Comes from years of working. Adding a boiled egg to salad perks it up, I think? or I add tuna and make tuna ( or chicken salad)
And also, I feed Dunkers boiled eggs once or twice a week. I hate making boiled eggs :(
Bottom line is I'm lazy, but having cooking days now and then makes the rest of the days easier :)

I am very fussy about cole slaw .. lol and I was shocked that I liked Kelly's! I tried deli cole slaw one time and didn't like it. ( too sweet). I like mine with a teeny bit of heat...

200ChelleBearss
Jul 5, 2012, 10:31 am

I'm fussy about coleslaw too, I like mine creamy with no vinegar taste to it. Nate won't eat it at all so I always eat his when we dine out.

We don't get fireworks around our house, so the dog is fine. I'm not sure how he would respond to the noise. He got scared in the car on the way back from PEI because we drove through a major storm and the thunder was right overhear. He was cowering in the back seat. It's sad to see a huge dog scared.

201Crazymamie
Jul 5, 2012, 10:32 am

I usually try to think more ahead and buy things that I can cook once and then repurpose like that for a different dish, but we are selling the refrigerator with the house. I have been trying not to have it loaded up with leftovers, so that when they look in there it looks clean and organized. We love to grill up steaks and chicken and do a bit extra so that we can use the meat again for fajitas or salads. Did you try the boiled eggs in the oven thing because that works great and you can do a bunch at a time. Your pasta salad sounds yummy - think I will try that with some grilled chicken.

What Linda said.

We just got home from the big grocery shop; we do that every 10 days to 2 weeks. I don't like to grocery shop unless I'm just getting maybe chips, fruit, and milk. Dh has his list, I have mine, and off we go. It's tiring and boring...to me, anyway. If I go with one of the kids while they shop, I can amuse myself by gazing at things liked smoked squid and thinking, "Now who on earth?" or studying odd fruit and expensive meats and fish. You know how easily amused I am by really mundane stuff.

So anyway, leftover London Broil tonight made over into fake stroganoff; easy, quick, tasty.

So tired right now; think I'll take a nap before lunch...

However recently I have been lurking on 75 book challenge and 12 in 12 too - reading threads that catch my eye. When I saw your request for short and funny, my first thought was Uncommon Reader which is short, funny and so appropriate for people who spend time here obsessed by books.
Am toying with a reading thread of my own perhaps in 2013 but don't know if I could sustain it with the demands of RL (mainly work!).

Greta Garbo is still in Recovery from that mess that was 4 July in my neighborhood. Too noisy! Hard on many animals. She is not sure our back yard is safe, even now. There are still some fools setting off fire crackers tonight.

Don't they consider that we have many domestic pets who are terrorized and we have many recently returned vets who really do not want to hear a bunch of erstaz gunfire?

Cory's kitty. Not sure about name yet... still under consideration when I went to bed.

That is the washer he is lying on... he is a big boy.

I have been dying to tell.. but there has been so much drama. Cory know that this is a big deal.
He has been considering a pet for a long time. He looked at a dog or too.. but I tried to steer him away
from a dog. He sometimes has to travel and he has heard me talk about some kenneling issues...
and sometimes his days are VERY long. So. He has always been a cat person, too. He loves both..
And is good with their care. There are not too many people I would leave my furkids with, but Cory is one of them. ( any of my kids, really ) ANYWAY.

He has been visiting shelters and PetSmart adoption centers.. and a couple of weeks ago he found this kitty. He left to think about it.. twice. Finally he took the plunge and filled out an adoption application. They said give it 2-3 days. I told him to call the next day to confirm that they sent in the app to the shelter .
He said he isn't going ot bug them.. but after 5 days he called. No word. He called the shelter. They never received the fax. And further.. someone else had sent an application and they called to let them know that they could have the kitty. He was pretty upset, because by then he was pretty invested in this boy. I told him not to worry... that he would get the cat. I was sure that the family would change their mind. I was.
Anyway.. he was upset and was ranting on fb about other things. I knew it was really about the cat.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO yesterday afternoon the called to tell him the family had changed their mind, and that he could have the cat.

yaaaaaaaay!

I told him to ask what kitty was eating, what litter they used etc.... the usual questions.
They couldn't wouldn't answer him. The young lady kept saying she didn't know. I told him
to ask for the store manager, that all the girl had to do was look in the room behind the kennel to find out.
You want transitions to be a seamless as possible... Well turns out Miss I don't know was the manager?!
But he did ask her to look in back and see, pls. Sheesh! So..

he now has a big and hopefully happy kitty. Cory was so tired, lots of work lately...
but he was so, so happy! Me too!

In other news. Amy had to TV go bad after the power outage. They went out and got some food and were getting sorted out and back to normal.. and the fridge went. So they have a repairman coming today..
Very annoying. But they are fine.

Today is errand day for me, so I have to go out in a bit to see to them.
right now I am just having coffee... how about you? :)

Love Cory's new cat; what a good boy you've raised to rescue such a beauty!

London Broil can be successfully broiled (heh). We like it cut very thick and broiled rare to medium rare. Dh usually grills it, but I've often used the oven broiler. Usually I marinate it in a bit of soy/teriyaki sauce, and save the marinade. When it's time for stroganoff, fry a large or two med. onions, 8 or more ounces mushrooms, garlic in 3 Tbsp. of butter. Add 2 Tbsp. flour, stir to mix well, slowly add a cup of beef broth and any marinade, stir to make a nice sauce. Take 1/2 c. sour cream, put in a cup, add some hot sauce to it to temper it to prevent curdling. Blend all together, add meat sliced really thin, warm through and eat. Yum. Oh, and be sure to add some pepper while making sauce. Easy, quick--my type of cooking.

We've sold my beloved Buick. Wah.

so, I have the doors open to get some real air in there... hope it stays a little cool for a while.

Cee... yep! It was a good day. I hope today is another .. for us all :)

Terri.. I think so too :)

kara.. I will tell him. Seamus is very athletic, and spends a fair amount of time running up and down the stairs..
kinda like Angus in that way :) Angus takes flying leaps to the highest possible point on cat tree and lands so hard he sets the thing to rocking :) Seamus' tree is on its way from Ammy.

Megan.. I agree. Suits him, too.

Yeah... I told Cory that as soon as he had his questions answered his chatter would slow down.
I think some of those questions have been answered. He is settling in well, and has found himself a favorite spot ( arm of the sofa, next to Cory) and a hideaway, chillin' spot ..spread out on the floor of the bathroom.
It cracked me up when Cory told me that he thinks Seamus prefers chicken to fish...( after testing out a couple of different canned foods) because Cory prefers chicken to anything. Cory is head over heels in love with this cat, and Seamus in showing signs of adoring Cory right back, from the sounds of it :) Much less cat talk yesterday, but a lot of hanging out.

Kath- Wow, you are a reading machine! Even cheating, I'm only just over halfway in Something Wicked. 5 stars, huh? At this point, I would have no problem with that. see you in the A.M.!

Hi Lady friend!
You ARE a reading machine! You go!

What a gorgeous day here today. What is your weather like. I think you had some storms? So, hopefully that cool front is taming things a bit for you...

I'm about to leave for a final whack at the book sale. I have a feelling there won't be much left. Still... gotta look, right?

It won't quite break 90 today, and I'm happy.

Isn't that sad.

It is just lovely here today - I think your positive thinking changed the weather! Hope you are having a good Sunday and that your headache is gone.

High tension in the house today with the Wimbledon men's finals ...and I'm finishing up with our GR during the breaks. Made hotdogs for lunch... simple and quick.

Hugs to you. Seamus is a handsome devil! So excited by the 5-star rating on Something Wicked and wishing you good luck with the Wimbledon tension!

Hi Caro :) I am sure that you will be seeing more of Seamus on FB :)
I am with you on the choice of hot dogs for lunch. :)
Tomorrow it is leftovers for us! Glad to know that you have Wimbledon to keep you
tense and Bradbury to relax you !

Nothing remotely like a breeze here, rd. Same here... supposedly. That is , they say under 90F. I am not convinced.. check with me at 9p. I have been making jambalaya ... hot hot hot. I have no idea what to cook.. we cant eat salad and burgers and hot dogs every day. I am using up bits and pieces to make this..

Paul, I'm glad that you are enjoying Bradbury, too.. He has been a fave of mine for so long, I can't remember when I first found him. It feels like I was very young, though.

Mark, not so much. I just feel pressured to not dilly dally with a GR. I have been doing a lot of dillying and dallying all year.

Nice to see you Angela!

Cee... I do miss seeing more of you! Hope today is at least as good as yesterday was for you & I hope you score some great buys at the book sale :)

Mamie.. I'm doing my best! LOL. I received a memo about grunting though, as I push the heat away.
There were tennis rackets on the letterhead.

Bonnie, I do love my Bradbury, what can I say? And I agree. Seamus and Cory are going to be a great team!

roni.. thanks :) Cory is a good cat namer.. he has done a lot of it over the years. I would love to see him
alongside of Angus.. and my Craig's cat Muzz. They would be a Feline Force to be reckoned with!

About half-way through the Bradbury, and really enjoying it; it has that sense of imending doom that is so very enjoyable in a book.

Lucky Cory and Seamus both; sounds like a match made in heaven.

We had breakfast out and will have French toast and bacon for dinner...hmmm...sounds odd, but works for us. I've been cooking quite a bit and taking a couple of days off; Dh is already signed on for tomorrow night's dinner, such a nice man (usually).

Hope Sunday goes well and Monday will be calm.

OK. I love Muzz for a nickname! Fits.

Oh, I did have a great day - see my thread for results of the book sale expedition ;-)

Company for supper - will be easy and a v good friend coming.
Pork loin on grill, homemade applesauce, fresh fruit, potatoes (can't decide of baked or mashed), butternut squash, and rolls. BLUEBERRY PIE and ice cream for dessert! YUM.

Started reading Dandelion Wine. Now, I have read other Bradbury in the distant past but I do not remember that he was such a fantastic writer. What did I know in HS? This is an excellent book. And now I am looking forward to Something Wicked ;-)

Cory's cat is a handsome devil. I love Maine Coons and he looks like he has some of that in him.

My cousin has three kittens she is fostering. They're about 3 months old and they are absolutely adorable. I would love to take one or two of them home with me......

I just got back from taking a small box of books to The Towers. It is an apartment building for retired folks.
I also took a boggle game. I bought it to play with family and friends.. about 7 yrs ago. No one ever wanted to play.. ever. So I was pleased to find that they are just starting to have a game day! Good timing.

I also took some to Valarie where I was going for PT.

I have another small stack to add to my Animal Shelter Book sale.. that they will hopefully have this year.
so.. magically, there is still no space on my shelves! Amazing.
