Hello-

When I read the subject line of the other post "What is your favorite YA title?", in my mind I pictured people listing actual titles that they thought were cute/interesting/funny/unique and not just what books they like.

So, how bout it? What are the coolest/cutest/funniest/most interesting YA titles you've seen? You don't have to even have read the book or like the book to nominate a title.

Here's a couple I love:
- Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging
- On the Bright Side, I'm Now the Girlfriend of a Sex God
- King Dork
- Perks of Being a Wallflower
- Freak the Mighty
- Startled by His Furry Shorts
- I am the Cheese
- Day no Pigs Would Die

Yours?

I also thought So B It was a creative title; and I loved the book!

Feed Your Head by Earl Hipp (non-fiction). The cover has a huge head opening up (presumably to eat new ideas)...

I also loved Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging and have the sequel out from the library to be read.

I think any of the books in Louise Rennison's series Confessions of Georgia Nicolson could fall under this topic...
On the Bright Side, I'm Now the Girlfriend of a Sex God
Knocked Out by My Nunga-Nungas
Dancing In My NuddyPants
Away Laughing on a Fast Camel
Then He Ate My Boy Entrancers
Startled by His Furry Shorts

I also think Absolutely, positively not has a pretty creative title and I also like Carl Hiaasen's YA titles Hoot and Flush.

My favourite title ever is The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew Meet Dracula. It promises SO MUCH!

ETA: though definitely in LibraryThing's catalogue, it doesn't seem to want to be a touchstone... thereby preserving its mystique.

I just read "It's a Mall World" and it was seriously one of the funniest books I've ever read. Being somewhat of a clutch myself, I can identify with main character, and having stuck up an email conversation with the author, she swears all the stuff in the book happened to her as a teenager.

I really liked Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn. I've seen it in both YA and Adult sections of the library. It's not so much funny, but one of the most creative books I've read.

I agree with the previous posts: Louise Rennison's titles are always funny!

A couple I wanted to add were by Dav Pilkey, even though he writes for a slightly younger audience. They are The Adventures of Captain Underpants series: Captain Underpants and the Attack of the Talking Toilets, Captain Underpants and the Perilous Plot of Professor Poopypants, Captain Underpants and the Wrath of the Wicked Wedgie Woman, Captain Underpants and the Big, Bad Battle of the Bionic Booger . . . well, there are more, but I'm sure you get the idea. Cute series. He also writes some cute picture books called Dogzilla and Kat Kong featuring altered photos of his own pets. Funny stuff. :)

I've just finished reading Fangs4Freaks, the sequel to Braced2Bite and I think those are very creative titles. Also, I like Got Fangs? by Katie Maxwell. I haven't read it, but I love the title, You Are SO Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah. Titles are something that I really pay attention to and really enjoy so I'll keep thinking and post again. Thanks for starting this thread.

Almost forgot a really good one: The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things by Carolyn Mackler. Haven't read it, but the title alone makes me want to. :D

My votes on either Cherokee Bat and the Goat Guys or Be More Chill. Both good books with great titles.

Fairbrook: I totally forgot about that book! I remember picking it up as a teen purely because of its title, so it was obviously effective.

My favorite YA title of the moment is Ally Carter's I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have To Kill You. It's a great book with a great cover! Others I can think of are King Dork which I know has already been mentioned and The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl by Barry Lyga.

Storky: How I Lost My Nickname and Won The Girl is one of my favorites for title and the book itself. Also Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie, If I Have A Wicked Stepmother, Where's My Prince?, and Girl, 15, Charming but Insane.

Just finished reading Nothing but the Truth (and a few white lies) by Justina Chen Headley. It's about a Taiwanese-American teenage girl who gets sent off to math camp at Stanford. It's about the problems facing this 15-year-old who's of mixed descent/parentage, and it's very clever and very, very funny.

The Wizard, the Witch, and Two Girls from Jersey -- I haven't read it yet, but the title makes me want to.

How about Blade of Kringle: Manga Claus? It's a really funny graphic novel complete with Ninja Teddys and an Evil Elf!

I also like Lisi Harrison's titles:
Friends for Never
Invasion of the Boy Snatchers
Revenge of the Wannabes

Forgot to mention my favorite title of *all time!* Although it's not a YA title, I loved "If I'd Killed Him When I Met Him, I'd Be Out of Jail By Now." Now THAT'S a title guaranteed to get attention.

Unusual YA titles:

Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret (although everyone knows this book, so it's not as interesting)
A Cat Called Amnesia
When Dad Killed Mom (although I would not call this one 'funny')

Non-YA, nonfiction titles:

The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat
Dr. Tatiana's Sex Advice to All Creation
Telling Lies for Fun and Profit

does my head look big in this
a book about an Islamic teenage girl who decides to start wearing a headscarf.

i also love the cat ate my gymsuit and many of paula danzinger's titles

They're not necessarily "funny" titles, but I find the glut of YA fiction with one-word titles defining stereotypical cliques and groups to be a little funny, all side-by-side on the bookshelf.

I recently bought this book just because of it's title~
Spanking Shakespear, it's at the house on my tbr bookshelf! The cover has a cartoon drawing of Shakespear on it which I found really funny.

Is Kissing A Girl Who Smokes Like Licking an Ashtray? by Randy Pwell. The title drew me in to the book, but it wasn't particularly a funny book.

Sorry. The author's name is Randy Powell. (Left out the "o".

I also like If I Have a Wicked Stepmother, Where's my Prince?Sometimes I think I like reading the titles or plot summaries of a book just as much as I actually like reading the books. My favorites titles would have to be (just cause they're neat, not just funny)

It's Kind of A Funny Story- plus I really liked the cover
Both Looking for Alaska and An Abundance of Katherines
Anatomy of a Boyfriend
The V Club
All's Fair in Love, War, and High School

One of my favourite titles ever was Teaching The Cat To Waterski. It's an Australian teen fiction book which I read many years ago. I got quite excited when the author turned up the next year to be an English teacher at my high school...

I thought Holes by Louis Sachar was incredibly original, and funny in a lot of ways.

Also, Vote for Larry, which is a sequel to The Gospel According to Larry, was very original, in my opinion. It wasn't so much laugh-out-loud funny, but more satirical-funny about today's consumer culture and political landscape. And it's definitely written for teens.

Definitely echo Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging, also One of Those Hideous Books Where the Mom Dies and If I Have a Wicked Stepmother, Where's My Prince

Let's not forget The Love Curse of the Rumbaughs ... this title definitely caught my interest--and the book more than lived up to it! But then I've been partial to Gantos' humor since Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key.

Definitely try Al Capone Does My Shirts again - incredible book

As for some creative/unique/funny titles, I liked The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Stuck in Neutral, An Order of Amelie, Hold the Fries, Bucking the Sarge

Several people have mentioned Louise Rennison's titles - I think Away Laughing on a Fast Camel is my fav, and though I don't like the books as well as Rennison's, Sue Limb's titles always make me chuckle - e.g. Girl, 15, Charming, But Insane

The Griffin and the Minor Canon - Dickins
The search for delicious - Babbitt
The ear, the eye and the arm - Farmer.
Interstellar Pig - Sleator
(all v. good books).

I clicked this thread intending to say "all of Louise Rennison's books!", but I believe that's been covered.

Honorable (honourable?) mention has to go to the two titles that got censored out and changed by the US press, though, as being too risque for pure and clean (hahahahhaha-- excuse me, I'm a librarian) American teen minds: Ok, Now I'm Wearing Really Big Knickers and And That's When It Fell off in My Hand.

I believe the next one is going to be Stop! in the Name of Pants, which is very funny if you've been keeping up with the series.

I think my fav author of funny
( and great titles) is Kathy Love She is the author of

Any Way You Want It
SPOILER
Maggie Gallagher spends her nights with lots of men. Of course, they’re all dead composers, but why nitpick? Her love life is just like the musical compositions she researches—undiscovered. It’s time for Maggie to let loose and go wild. In a dive bar on Bourbon Street, Maggie makes a real find in the house band’s keyboard player. He’s hot. Sexy. Flirtatious. Soulful. And she could swear he’s playing an unknown piece she’s been researching, which is impossible, unless he’s dead…
Centuries before he was a badass vampire with a rock-star wardrobe and Big Easy charm, Ren was Renauldo D’Antoni, a composer on the verge of great success until he was betrayed. No one could ever know that, but tonight, the shy strawberry blonde with the big eyes and obviously borrowed outfit actually seemed to recognize his long-lost composition. Now, she wants to know about the composition, and Ren wants to know her…intimately. But what starts as attraction—and distraction—just might lead to the biggest discovery of their lives…

She also has:

Getting What You Want, Wanting What You Get, Wanting Something More,
Fangs for the Memories,
Fangs but No Fangs,
I Only Have Fangs for You,
My Sister is a Werewolf

I haven't read either of these, but I love the titles:
You are SO not invited to my bat mitzvah by Fiona Rosenbloom
and
One of Those Hideous Books Where the Mother Dies by Sonya Sones

The second one particularly makes me laugh because so many YA books seem to center around God-awful things happening to the protagonist. At my last YA book club meeting when we got done discussing Sold by Patricia McCormick someone commented, "Hey! Nobody died in this one!" Sold into sexual slavery, yes, but nobody actually died.

Favorite YA title I have read:
Sorcery and Cecelia or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot: Being the Correspondence of Two Young Ladies of Quality Regarding Various Magical Scandals in London and the Country by Caroline Stevermer and Patricia C. Wrede
How could you not want to read that?

I teach middle school, so I get to read all this stuff. I love it! These all made me laugh:
The Teacher's Funeral
No More Dead Dogs
Flush
Fudge and all the iterations of it
And all of John Scieszka's Time Warp Trio books:
Knights of the Kitchen Table
Your Mother Was a Neanderthal
The Good, The Bad, and The Goofy
Viking it and Liking It
The Not-So-Jolly Roger
These are for younger readers, but are hilarious for group readings. Kids get into making all the gross noises and singing like pirates.

A few more additions from Naomi Nash: You Are So Cursed!, I Am So Jinxed, and Chloe, Queen of Denial.

The book itself was just okay, but I love the title. ^^
