We want to read all 12 volumes of Anthony Powell's A Dance to the Music of Time in 2013, one volume per month. This is the main thread with the links to the monthly threads.

I'll open all threads within the next couple of days - okay, maybe weeks - so everyone can read at their own pace and post their thoughts on the respective thread.

I am reading the University of Chicago Press edition, with the 4 books of 3 vols, with the covers showing the 4 seasons from Nicolas Poussin's painting that inspired Powell to write the book (according to wikipedia...).

Thanks for getting this set up, Nathalie. Do you plan to jump right in to *?* ? Oh! I can go to the thread to find out!

#2: Sorry I was late with setting up those threads. And then I confused the titles of the first 2 books, but I guess now they should be okay.

Does anybody know what I have to do to post several (4) covers in a line? I'd like to add the covers for summer, autumn and winter to the entry post.

Hi Nathalie, thanks a lot for organising the group read!

Concerning the covers: You just have to write all four sources directly next to each other. I'll write it in German, because it's easier and faster: Wenn du die Quellenangabe mit {img src="..."} direkt nebeneinander schreibst, ohne auf Enter zu drücken, stehen die Bilder nebeneinander. Damit alle Cover noch gleich groß sind, genügt es, bei allen die gleiche Höhe einzugeben, also bspw. {img height="150"src="..."}. Es sieht dann folgendermaßen aus:

{img height="150"src="..."} {img height="150"src="..."} {img height="150"src="..."} {img height="150"src="..."}

Nur noch die richtigen Klammern verwenden, und dann passt es. :)

Thank you Kathy, this was much easier than I expected!

#5: You're welcome, Nathalie. Thanks to you I just got the link between the four covers. :)

One general question: How are you counting ADttMoT for your statistics? 1 book = 1 book? 1 installement = 1 book? I think I'll do the latter...

As all the books have their 200+ pages, I count them as individual books towards the 75 goal and I'll also try and add them to the monthly TIOLIs where possible (challenge #8 for the January book). They have their different titles and were published seperately.

For the 1,001 group however the whole thing counts as one book only, like Marcel Proust's 7 vols of In Search of Lost Time.

Well, in that case I will do that, too. I will need every single book I can count. :)

As I've already read the first 6 or 7 of these books I'll join in later in the year. I had trouble tracking down some of the books at the time which slowed my progress.

I will join in as soon as I finish Anna Karenina (??). I already own the four volumes. Off to the TIOLI thread to add my name to the challenge.

I just got pointed here by a friend in the Virago Modern Classics group as I was just about to embark on the same thing myself - but it's so much more fun as a group! I hope to read the vintage orange Penguins - I have the first so far and one in the post as I write!

FYI - some might find this useful - Invitation to the Dance: Handbook to Anthony Powell's Music of time by Hilary Spurling

Kerry, that's exactly what I came to offer! I put the Spurling on my Kindle and it has been useful once already although navigation is not ideal. I'll go to the book thread to put up what I learned and to ask a couple of questions.
Karen, I'm glad you found us!!!

Great recommendation, I just got the Kindle sample.

I'm lurking here, having finished this series last year and enjoyed it a second time as my husband read it and wanted to talk about it. My husband found the Spurling book in a used book shop, bless him. It is quite useful, although there are spoilers in some of the bits about characters. With a series that spans as much time as this one does, you know certain characters will die, but you don't want to know how or when and sometimes these details are shared.
