Hi Chelle,
what a wonderful new thread with this beautiful spring opening picture. I really do hope that we will get spring soon as well :(. I am so glad to see that you enjoyed Oryx and Crake as you might remember I loved both books :) and I am very much looking forward to the third one coming out in August.

Hi Chelle! Lovely spring-y photo. Hope the snow melts quickly but I guess it'll take a while - how much is there left?
9Crazymamie
Gorgeous new thread, Chelle! I am listening to the audiobook of Oryx and Crake right now, so I was thrilled to see your rating of it. I am liking it so far, but I am only about 2 hours in. And 50 books read so far - you GO, girl!!
10rosalita
Beautiful flowers. And to answer your question from your last thread — Atwood April is the perfect time to read Oryx and Crake!

Congrats on the colorful new thread! We can use a little warmth around here. Hope you had a nice day, Chelle!

Lovely spring thread, Chelle.
Your comments (prior thread) make me want to read Oryx and Crake, which I have not thought I would like. You make it sound quite enjoyable!

To answer your question in the previous thread: Wuthering Heights is, for lack of a better term, *terrible*. That's why the shudders. By yay for Oryx and Crake! Loved that one (and Year of the Flood), too!
17Morphidae
Lovely flowers.
I've never actually thrown a book and didn't understand people who said they did until Crime and Punishment sorely tempted me.
I'm with Amber. I couldn't finish Wuthering Heights either. All the people in it are absolutely horrid.

Wow, it's nice to see everyone!! I worked all day today and didn't sleep well last night so it will be an early night for me tonight! I don't what is wrong with my cat but she is driving me nuts. In the middle of the night she came and stood on me and kept meowing in my face. She has food, water, a clean litter box and Tempe was in her crate so the cat had free roam of the house. She kept meowing at me all through the night. I even got out of bed and walked around the house to see if something was wrong and the cat just stayed on my bed. I got about 5 hours sleep. I am crossing my fingers that she finds somewhere else to sleep tonight or she might find herself fed to a coyote (joke! joke!)
I work for the next 13 days straight so I might not be around too much. I am still working both the security and the home care jobs but I think I might give notice and quit the security job soon. I'm enjoying the home care and I'm getting lots of hours there (and an added bonus is that there are no night shifts!)
Hopefully by the end of this month I'll have one full time (or almost full time) job!
Hope everyone had a good holiday weekend and have a good week!
#6 Hi Bianca! I am looking forward to the next one as well! I am going to read the second The Year of the Flood later this month so I'll be ready for the final one when it comes out
#7 Correct Katie! I have hyacinth planted in my garden but they haven't started to come up yet :(
#8 Hi Cushla! I only have a little bit of snow at the edges of our property left. Mostly everything has melted into huge puddles. We've have a good run of 10 degree days and it's starting to melt everything!
#9 Glad to see you are enjoying Oryx and Crake so far! I enjoyed the print version a little better than the audio. I found it to be a bit too weird to listen to
#10 Thanks Julia! Hopefully the ones in my garden bloom soon!
#11 Love the sun graphic Nancy!!
#12 Thanks Mark! I had a relaxing day with the pups.
#13 Hiya Micky!
#14 Hi Ellen! Give Oryx and Crake a shot! You might find that you love it and want to read the next two books!
#15 Hi Amber! Well I don't think I'll get to Wuthering Heights anytime soon, especially since you, Morphy and others disliked it so much. I just started Les Misérables and I feel it's going to be a Loooong ride!
#16 Thanks Calm! I hope mine look that nice when they bloom!
#17 Hi Morphy! I have crime and Punishment on audio and ebook form. I tried to listen to the audio earlier this year and couldn't focus on it. I'll give the ebook a shot one day and see if it makes more sense in written form. I won't be able to throw the book though since it will be on my kobo ;-p
#18 Thanks John!
#19 HA Amber! Monty Python is too funny! Nate made me watch the Holy Grail with him and he laughed his butt off the whole time while I snickered some. Nate quotes it all the time and knows which ones will make me giggle.
Like this one (I had to google it to get the correct wording)
Sir Lancelot: She turned me into a newt!
Sir Galahad: A newt?
Sir Lancelot: I got better...
That cracks me up :)

Popping in to say Hello on your new thread. Love the pic. Snow here is melted but still cold. I am so ready for warm weather here. Sigh..

I'm so far behind, but I think I'm up to date now. I'm glad to see you're enjoying the Vampire Diaries. I love the show and have the first two sitting on a shelf, but haven't gotten around to them yet. I was afraid they might be a bit teen angsty in the beginning - the series was a little, but it keeps getting better so I've held on to the idea of getting to the books one day soon. :)

Happy April, Chelle! Maybe 13 straight days of work is just what you need to keep your mind busy while Nate's away.
Back at your previous thread you asked if Will wants to be a police officer. Well, he never mentioned it although I thought he might be interested in the military. My husband is a retired police lt. and never pushed Will in that direction. Then all of a sudden for his career project last month he chose Police Officer. I'm not sure if he chose it because his dad was readily accessible to answer questions (aka - the easy way out) or he's actually interested. Time will tell.
Hope you find a little time to read this week and hope your cat stops acting strangely.

I had an odd night!! I slept great until 4am when an explosion of light out the bedroom window woke me up. Our power flickered off and when it came back on a second explosion of light happened and then the power went out and stayed off. I got out of bed and looked outside and couldn't see anything and I got the flashlight and looked around the house and I couldn't find where the light came from. I know I wasn't imagining it as I could the neighbours across the street were looking around with flashlights too. I went back to bed and about an hour later I fell asleep. At 7am I got woken up again when the power flickered back on and another explosion of light happened. The power stayed off again until 8am.
When I went to take the dogs outside this morning I realized that the explosions had come from the hydro pole across the street. The slushy snow or the wind must have caused the transformer to explode. There are black soot marks on the pole now! I'm just glad it was across the street and not something to do with our house!
The cat managed to climb on me without waking me up last night. She has started sleeping right on me now. As long as she does it quietly then I guess it's ok lol
21 Hi Monica. Actually we got a little snow storm last night so there is a thin layer of icy snow on the ground now. But it's supposed to be warm this weekend so I hope it will all melt!
22 Oh don't get me wrong Tina, they are VERY teen drama filled! But I enjoyed them anyway. Give the first one a try and see if it's too much teen drama for you
23 Amber, Nate has a great memory and manages to slip the most inappropriate quotes into everyday conversation. Holy grail is one that he quotes quite a bit as well as SuperTroopers and Forest Gump. I'm a lucky lady HA!
24 Hi Lynda. I think that just having a police presence around in the home can be quite a motivation for a child. Nate didn't want to be a police officer like his dad (Staff Sgt with the OPP) so he ended up taking construction technology in college. Once he finished his degree he changed his mind and decided to go to police college. Nate's dad didn't encourage him to be an officer or follow in his footsteps, but I think Nate saw how much his dad enjoyed his job and how rewarding it was for him.

Ohmygosh, Super Troopers?! My favorite comedy Of All Time!! That's it - when he gets home, I'm coming up for a visit, to check out your bookshelves, play with the dogs and have a quote-a-thon with Nate! I'm guilty of the inappropriate quoting all the time, too, and it irritates Tomm, I think. Every time we all three get in the car, with me in the drivers seat, I turn around and say, "You boys like Me-hi-co?!" Ha!
27Donna828
Chelle, I'm glad the new job is working out well for you. It would be a relief not to have to juggle two jobs. Do you think your cat might have spring fever? I know Lucky acts weird this time of year. It doesn't help that we have a fox in residence nearby.
The hyacinths are lovely. Mine are blooming. I'm tempted to bring some inside for the fragrance.
Don't work too hard!

Chelle, that's an eerie experience with power outage; a transformer exploding right across the road is a little (ok, a LOT) too close for comfort.
29ChelleBearss
HA Amber, you and Nate would get along VERY well! He actually had a picture taken at our wedding with his best friend and they have a super trooper quote in it! Needless to say that one is now in a frame in our living room lol I'll start making the bed in the guest room for you ;-p

HI Donna! I actually no longer have to make a decision about working both jobs as the security job that I have been working has been cancelled and I am back to on call when I feel like working. The patient that I was working with has become seriously ill and bedridden so they no longer need a guard with him.
I am really looking forward to my spring flowers blooming! More snow arrived today, althought it's warm enough that it won't stay long
Nancy this whole last month has been weird! I thought I was loosing my mind until I saw the neighbours out with their flashlights trying to figure out what was going on.
Today the wind has been so strong that it got under the eaves and the vacuum effect caused my attic hatch to pop open. Scared the crap out of me! My dad is teasing me that there is a serial killer living in my attic now *shudder*

51) Pier 21: The Gateway that Changed Canada by Trudy Mitic & JP LeBlanc
Read for:
75 Books Challenge for 2013,
2013 Category Challenge: Non-fiction/biography
This is a small but powerful book detailing the years that Pier 21 in Halifax was in operation as the main port of entry for immigration into Canada. From 1928 to 1971 more than 1.5 million people entered through Pier 21.
A touching tribute to the hundreds of volunteers and employees who helped welcome the waves of immigrants coming into Canada, some coming with means and opportunity waiting for them and some coming with only the clothes on their backs. From the first waves of European settlers through to the war years when refugees, war brides and displaced children arrived, hundreds of volunteers and employees were on hand to help with everything from translation to supplying food to helping watch children for exhausted parents.
Pier 21 is now Canada's National Museum of Immigration and I plan on making a trip there this summer.
Recommended to anyone who is interested in Canadian History.

52) Aunt Dimity's Christmas by Nancy Atherton
Read for:

I really enjoy the Aunt Dimity books. They are very cozy mysteries and once in a while it's nice to read a mystery where everything works out in the end!

#29 Love it Chelle. I enjoyed that movie as well. However I don't feel the urge to rewatch it frequently, once in a while is okay. But I know some actually many officers that just love it. LOL :)
It is supposed to be warmer starting tomorrow here. It sure has been an odd winter and talk about hanging on here.. Uggh.. I am so so tired of the cold.. It even snowed here today I looked out the window and it looked like a blizzard but nothing stuck. Yesterday we had quite a squall here that on one of our hills we had several people get stuck on the hill for a bit. But 10 miles south of here there was no snow on the ground.. Weird...

Oh your dad sounds as bad as mine! Such a tease! I hope that you have a better sleep. What a scare with the attic hatch opening up! Pier 21: The Gateway that Changed Canada sounds really interesting!

The Newt quote/dialogue is still one of the best, ever.
Monty Python, ultimately quotable.
Fawlty Towers, also hilarious.

Scary stuff with the transformers blowing, Chelle. That's happened here before but only once, which was scary enough. I don't know what I would have done if it had happened multiple times.

Hi Chelle -
Why is it - all the exciting, scary stuff happens when husbands are not home? Maybe to show you how well you can handle things all by yourself! Nice to have someone else around when weird things happen. At least you have neighbors ;-)
Now about your cat - that is strange. Good that she has learned to be quiet. My cat has been a little weird at night lately. She comes up to my face (while I am sleeping) and lays down nose-to-nose. Of course her whiskers and fur tickle and wake me up. Spring fever??? Dunno. She IS trying very hard to get out the door whenever it is opened. sigh
You are reading up a storm! Good job!

53) Lover at Last by JR Ward (4*)
Read for:
75 Books Challenge for 2013,
2013 Category Challenge: Books from my Kobo eReader
I'd like to call this Vampire Fluff but at 600 pages and filled with testosterone the "fluff" part doesn't really fit. Either way it's another guilty pleasure and this is one of my favorite series.

54) Dark Reunion by LJ Smith *3*)
Read for:
75 Books Challenge for 2013,
2013 Category Challenge: Series & Sequels
Last of the original Vampire Diaries series and IMO the least enjoyable of the four.

31 :) Yep, that's my man lol
32 Hi Monica! Ya it's supposed to snow here but it's been raining all day so I think we are out of the woods for snow. Most of mine has melted ... which means MUD! I give up on the washing the floor. The puppy mud prints can stay, for now
33 Hi Deb! Ya my dad thinks he is funny ;)
Pier 21 was a good read and gave me some information that I did not know about Canada. It's funny because I've been talking to some of my clients and two of them are 90 and 94 and they both fought in WWII and sailed out of Pier 21. Neither of them remembers which ship they left on though, I wonder if I could find out that information for them somewhere?
34 Hi Ellen! Hope you are enjoying your vacation!
Yes the newt quote is a funny one. I'm not a huge fan of what I call "stupid funny" but there are a few good quotes in that movie for sure!
Nate also quotes the Knight of Ni shrubbery scene
35 Hi Julia! I guess I was a little out of it since it was the middle of the night but I figured since I didn't smell smoke then the flashes of light must not have been important lol. Worried me enough to keep me awake for an hour but not enough for me to actually go outside and investigate.
37 Hi Cee! I think my cat might just get jealous that the dogs get so much attention. Although it feels like she somehow knows which mornings that I have to get up earlier and then spends the night before keeping me awake. Little evil fur ball! ;) At least your crazy kitty is quiet, although waking up by being tickled would be annoying too!

...hmm and that's why I haven't bothered reading the Vampire Diaries books. I fear that they're going to end up being terrible and spoil my enjoyment of the show! I also kind of love that you read a Christmas-themed book in April. I don't know why, but I always avoid that kind of thing!
43Crazymamie
Morning Chelle! I'm all caught up here. Exploding transformers, attic doors that open themselves and mysteriously needy cats are a lot to handle alone! You are certainly getting a workout while Nate is gone! That's how it always works - remember last year when Craig was down in Georgia working his new job and the kids and I were still in Indiana and a tree fell through the house?! Some kind of universal my man is gone mojo, I tell you! Crossing my fingers that you have no more adventures.
My girls LOVE to watch The Vampire Diaries, but Abby is the only one who has also read the books - she said the show is much better.

41 It was GOOD Morphy! I found this one to have the most sex scenes in it out of all the books so far. The nickname Vampire Porn REALLY fits this book. Actually Vampire Gay Porn would work better. I am already looking forward to the next one!
And you are welcome! I wish I had won the lottery last night and then I would have donated more. Oh well, at least I won a free ticket ;)
42 HI Faith! They weren't terrible but the shows are way better! I enjoyed the first three books more than the last one, I was having trouble concentrating on this one because I was bored. It might be partially my own fault for reading all four so close together
Ha I don't normally read Christmas books in spring but I am trying to read the Aunt Dimity books in order and that was the next one!
43 Hi Mamie! I don't know what it is with the universe but it needs to stop picking on the women home alone! I mean really now! lol
I agree with Abby, the show is awesome and the books are ok. It helps that I have a crush on Ian Somerhalder though.
How could you not crush on this face!?

HI friends! Today I only worked a few hours with one client and have the rest of the day off! I have done some cleaning and then took the fur beasts next door to the field to play catch. It's a beautiful sunny day and 11C. Lovely!! The dogs actually listened and came when they were called and came home when I called them to come home. I think that is a first! :)
They are happily sleeping now and leaving me alone to play on LT!
Nate was told at work yesterday that he might be coming home by the 14th! Yay! I doubt it will actually happen but anytime around that date would be better than the end of the month!
Hope you all had a great weekend!
47 Yes Kath, one job IS better! And I like the home care job much better! The seniors are so happy to have company and someone to cook for them and talk to and at the security job most people are grumpy or angry. Happy is much better! And one of my clients is determined to turn me into a gardener and I helped him plant peanuts in his greenhouse this weekend. It's a rewarding job even if the pay sucks lol
I am happy, missing Nate but happy.
48 Hi Monica! I am looking forward to Nate coming home for his company but as an added bonus we will watch the end of the Vampire Diaries season together! ;)

Hi Chelle, good to hear that Nate will be coming home soon and i like the added bonus. I am hoping to meet up with Paul C on friday and have a catch up on all things LT and cricket, haha. I hope you had a good weekend my dear.
52johnsimpson
Hi Chelle, not sure whether it's just me and Paul or with his family and i will take a photo. We will be childminding Hannah but Karen is going to look after her and keep her amused as i don't think she would like to be a spectator to the chat as she is quite active now and wants to be playing with things or watching Postman Pat or Fireman Sam DVD'S.

Good morning friends! It's my day off today YAY! I had plans to go to the zoo with a friend and her kids but she is having some major marital drama and it's raining today so our plans have been scrapped. I am staying SO FAR out of the marital drama but since it's Nate's best friend and his wife, who is my friend, it's hard to. Nate and I made a promise to each other that we will not let their issues become issues for us! So far, so good!
I think today will now be a relaxing day of reading and laundry :) I'm about halfway through Get Shorty now and enjoying it and I have How to be a Woman out from the library and it seems like it will be a funny read.
Nate was told yesterday that they are flying home on a military flight on SATURDAY!!! I am very excited for him to come home sooner than they planned. Plus he will have most of the month off when he gets home so that will be nice. I've already started his Honey-Do list ;)
50/52 Hi John! That's great that you get to visit Paul! I'm sure you both will have a nice chat about books and everything else! Have a great time and I'll pop by your thread on the weekend so see your photo evidence :)
51 Not a bad thing at all eh Roni hehe
53 Spring is here Nancy! The snow is mostly melted except for the stubborn piles at the edges of the property and the rain is here. Hopefully my flowers start coming up soon!
54 Hi Deb! Yes Bring it on!! This might just be a great week!
55 HAHA Megan, yes he has been gone to Iceland for a month! But I appreciate the fist pump! haha

Chelle, I'm sure you'll like How to be a Woman. Caitlin is a very funny writer, and there was a lot in it that I could identify with.
Great news about Nate! My mother was a big believer in the "Jobs for my Husband" list, which was stuck on the fridge with a magnet :-)

Chelle, it's so thoughtful of you to make a list of home chores for Nate so he doesn't feel adrift when he returns from Iceland and has all that free time on his hands. You are a truly caring wife! :-)
61DeltaQueen50
Hi Chelle, so glad to hear that Nate is coming home soon, and that spring is finally showing up in Nova Scotia. I've had a crush on Ian Somerhalder since his Lost days, and yes, I admit to watching TVD on a regular basis!
62MickyFine
I have a serious case of spring envy, Chelle. It's been quite cold for April the past couple mornings (-12C, today there was a windchill of -19C). That being said, HUZZAH for Nate coming home early. Very happy for you. :)
63ChelleBearss
Hi friends. I haven't been able to actually sit and do much reading today as I've been trying to clean up our bedroom and spare bedroom. We may be having Nate's best friend come stay with us for a bit as him and his wife are having trouble. It's believed that she "strayed' while he was deployed with Nate and he has somehow found out. I think it's absolutely horrible for anyone to cheat while their spouse is military deployed. That is, IMO, worse than just cheating. Anyway I use our spare room as part office and part junk collector and since the guys get home this weekend I needed to tidy it up
On a good note I've been able to listen to some audiobooks today. I finished Interworld by Neil Gaiman and wasn't overly fond of it. I think it's meant for children and I can see kids really enjoying that one. It was a little too juvenile for me. Now I am listening to Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone read by Stephen Fry. I really enjoy listening to Stephen Fry!
57 Hi Susan! Glad to see you enjoyed iHow to be a Woman. I have started it but not gotten very far with it. The opening chapter seemed pretty amusing so I think I'll enjoy it
58 Ha Julia! I am such a loving wife, I wouldn't want Nate to get bored ;)
It's a very small list. Some outside stuff (which are his jobs anyway, this is just a gentle reminder since spring is here) and a cupboard door that has managed to fall off and needs to be fixed.
59 Thanks Linda! Glad I could cheer you up!
60 WhoHoo indeed Amber!
61 Hi Judy! I didn't pay much attention to Ian while he was on Lost but once I started watching TVD I really started to notice him! Yum ;)
62 Oh Micky that's just gross!! -12 is too cold for spring! It's been 10-15 lately but today was raining and just 3. But it's not negative temps now so I'm happy!

Hi Chelle- Glad you enjoyed a day off. I was a big fan of Get shorty and the movie was very good too! I have loved Elmore Leonard for decades.
65lit_chick
You and Nate sound very kind and supportive of your friends, Chelle. I'm sorry to hear about their trouble.
66vancouverdeb
So happy for you , Chelle that Nate is flying home on Saturday! That is fabulous news! I'm sorry to hear about the troubles of your friends. That is always so difficult. You and Nate are so kind to your friends. I hope that they can sort things out. Hugs to you!
67cameling
Chelle, I love the pic of your hydrangeas (at least I think that's what they are?) topping your thread.
You and Nate are kind to offer your room to your friend while he sorts out his marital bloop.
Out of curiosity, why does your military deploy troops to Iceland?

Oh dear... so sorry about the issues with the friends :(
It is hard to stay out of things like that when they are people you are close with..
But YAY! Nate's coming home. Good things happening here .. I'm happy for you :)

Hi Mark! I just finished Get Shorty last night! Love the last line. Although I'm a little surprised it made the 1001 books list!
Thanks Nancy! We are trying to be supportive without actually getting involved as we are friends with both husband and wife. It's a fine line that we are trying to balance lol
Thanks Deb! Nate and are very exciting that he is coming home. Thankfully it was only a month. I feel for the spouses that have to deal with long deployments!
Thanks Caro! I love the smell of hydrangeas and I am looking forward to mine blooming!
Iceland is the only NATO country that does not have a military. USA used to take care of it and now the other NATO countries take a turn.
Here is an article that explains it better than I do. The people in the photos are Nate's shift but he didn't get in any photos.

Yes Kath it is hard to not get involved, especially since Nate and the fella are roommates in Iceland and the female called me crying the other night. It's a difficult position but I hope we are staying outside the drama enough. I still have more work to do in the spare room to make it liveable though

56) Get Shorty by Elmore Leonard (4*)
Read for:
75 Books Challenge for 2013,
2013 Category Challenge: 1001 Books to read before you die
1001 Books to read before you die
This was a very interesting read and I found it was a book that was easy to get into and hard to put down.
When Chili Palmer finds his jacket stolen from a coat check he tracks the man down, punches him in the face and takes his jacket back. When the man, Ray Bones, comes after Chili he shoots Bones in the head. Simple enough. Unfortunately he should have killed Bones as twelve years later Chili's boss dies and Chili ends up working for Bones
Bones orders Chili to collect on a bad debt when a client dies in a plane crash. Chili tries to collect from the widow and finds out that the man is actually alive and took off to Vegas with the cash payout that the airlines gave his wife for his death. Chili follows him to Vegas and then to Hollywood and manages to end up the movie business.
I really enjoyed this read although I'm a little surprised that it ended up on the 1001 books to read list. I am going to track down a copy of the movie next as I think my husband would really enjoy it.
72-Cee-
Oy! You and Nate are so kind - but this is gonna be hard.
It kinda stinks that after Nate has been gone so long you have to share him when he gets home. You are both building your 'mansion in heaven'. Hope this marital problem of your friends does not drag you down. You are very brave :}
Now that you have the dogs minding - you may find Nate needs a bit of a refresher ;-) A woman's work is never done, the man is always having fun! hehehe
I'm so happy for you that he is getting home early. Who'll be watching Iceland?

The movie's a lot of fun, Chelle. I haven't read the book, but I'm putting it on my tbr after your entertaining review.
74ChelleBearss
Hi Cee! I don't think his friend will be here long as he will probably get housing on base to be near his kids. If he even comes here at all, but I thought I should be prepared just in case. Nothing worse than having a guest stay in a room that is cluttered and junky
Nate will need a refresher for sure! I'll give him the weekend off though ;)
HI Joe! It's a fun read, you'd probably like it!
I got Ghosts of Nagasaki in the mail today! I'll try and add that into my May reading

Well, now I HAVE to read TVD books so we can chat about them!!
Also think I have an Aunt Dimity on my shelf somewhere but I never read it because I wanted to go in order... That is best, right?

76ChelleBearss
Hi Tina! The Aunt Dimity books are very fluffy but entertaining. I am reading them in order as I don't do it any other way. You probably could read them out of order but there are life events in the book which would make more sense in order.
So ya, go in order ;-)

I received my copy of Ghosts of Nagasaki the other day. Maybe we can read it together, but probably not this month. I am jam-packed.
78ChelleBearss
That would be great Mark! I wonder if anyone else is getting copies? We could make it a May or June group read
79Carmenere
Just stopping by to see how your doing, Chelle. Ugh to all the weird things that have been happening in your home since Nate is away. Hope it has all calmed down and you and furry friends are relaxing.
80-Cee-
Oh yeah. Nate will arrive home and everything will be in perfect order. He will wonder "What the heck was she getting all bent out of shape about?" *sigh*
The only Aunt Dimity I've read is the one you gave me. I'm betting it was waaaay out of order. But I loved it actually (thanks) - and will find more someday. Fluff is a good palate cleanser ;-)

I'm being lazy tonight. I had a whole bunch of things that I wanted to get done but I didn't sleep well last night so I've been napping and reading instead of cleaning. Played a facebook game Candy Crush Saga for a while and have been getting my butt kicked at Words with Friends by my Mom. It's been a good night :)
HI Lynda! It's been a weird month but life is starting to get back to normal! The beasts are both asleep (finally!) at the end of my bed and letting me read in peace. It's glorious! :)
HI Cee! Actually the Aunt Dimity that I gave you was the second in the series but doesn't have the main character Lori in it. It's a stand alone so you won't have missed anything! If your library has Aunt Dimity's Death that is the first in the series and explains a lot.

Nice review of Get Shorty - I LOVE Elmore Leonard, so I'm adding that one to my WL. I actually just ordered Out of Sight and Bandits today, so it was funny to come here and see your review because Leonard doesn't get a lot of buzz her in LT. I just love the characters he creates! And I have a copy of Ghosts of Nagasaki - I bought the $.99 Kindle version after Joe reviewed it on his thread, so I would totally be up for a GR of it. Just say when!
So happy to hear that Nate will be home this weekend!! SO great!

84msf59
Hi Chelle- The only reason I would like to get to The Ghosts of Nagasaki sooner, is that Clausen was kind enough to send us a copy. I hate to wait a couple of months before starting it. How about the middle of May?
85drachenbraut23
Hi Chelle, great to hear that Nate is coming home tomorrow. I hope that everything is going to work out okay with his friend, so you got involved now despite not wanting to. However, I think if you can offer a friend somewhere to stay during a crisis is a nice thing to do.
The story of the ?transformer blowing up and causing you to get up in the middle of the night would have scared me as well. At least you had two dogs looking after you :) Imagine, the white light would have been an Alien invasien *grin*
Hm, I think Ian Sommerholder looks quite cute, but not really my type. I think he looks to nice and neat.
Wishing you and Nate a great weekend!

Chelle, I am so happy for you that Nate is coming home earlier than you planned. That is such a nice surprise for you two. Sorry to hear about your friends marital issues that are ongoing. It is very kind of you and Nate to have him stay with you. I hope all turns out well with that. I have to tend to agree that cheating is a horrible thing especially when someone is deployed. It is not a fun thing to experience even when not deployed. (this is experience here talking since I was cheated on) Anywho, he has my sympathy if that is what is going on.
Yay on finsihing watching the Vampire Diaries together. Hugs to you and the furkids.

I wish I could play Candy Crush. It looks like fun. But I get one screen in and my laptop starts to complain. Wah wah wah.
I bet you are counting the minutes until Nate comes home. You are a treasure to open the house to a friend when you haven't seen your husband in so long!

82 Yep Cee, not far off at all! They are good little cozy mysteries that are nice for times that you don't want a hard to read or serious book
83 Awesome Mamie! We can start up a GR next month. I can make a thread if Mark doesn't want to.
I hadn't heard of Elmore Leonard until I saw Get Shorty on the 1001 books list.
84 Hi Mark! Middle of May works for me! We can start spreading the news and see if we can round up everyone who received or bought a copy
85 HI Bianca! Well I'm not really involved at all other than lending him a bed to sleep in if he needs it. I was friends with the girl until I found out all of this stuff was going on and now I'm taking a step back from talking to her. I don't need the " he said, she said" conversations. It's bad enough that Nate is rooming with the fella in Iceland so he keeps telling me stuff.
Have a good weekend!
86 Hi Monica! I think Nate and I will probably have the weekend to ourselves thankfully! I think his friend would prefer to stay with a friend on base to be closer to his kids. I think he will only come stay with us if he needs to talk to Nate.
I am excited to have the weekend off. We have a ton of shows to watch, wine to drink and dogs to play with. Hopefully all goes well and he arrives tomorrow as planned.
87 Hi Morphy! Candy Crush is fun! I started playing it on my phone and then on facebook. Some of the FB games don't work well on my computer (farmville 2 freezes) but thankfully crandy crush and words with friends work fine!

Hi Chelle, met up with Paul this afternoon and had a really good chat for two and a half hours, the time just flew by, Hnai and the kids came into the coffee shop and they were a delight. Kyran took a couple of photos for me on my phone and i have placed them on my profile but can't seem to get them from there onto my thread or Paul's, not sure what i should be typing in to do this.

57) Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by JK Rowling (4* Audio by Stephen Fry)
I just finished Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone on audiobook read by Stephen Fry. I adore Stephen Fry and IMO his voice is perfect for audiobooks!
I have started listening to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and I was happily surprised to find out that this edition is also read by Stephen Fry! How lucky is that :)
I won't be on LT this weekend as Nate will be home tomorrow. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
92MickyFine
Yes, Stephen Fry and Douglas Adams were actually very good friends while Adams was alive. You'll notice if you watch the film of Hitchhiker's with Martin Freeman (the version to which I'm partial), Stephen Fry is the voice of the Guide.
Hope you and Nate have a delightful reunion weekend. :D

Glad that are enjoying Harry Potter, Chelle! Have a great weekend with Nate! :)

Yes! Stephen Fry is the *perfect* reader! Tomm and I have all of the HP audio books read by him, even though it took some doing to get them shipped here.
97drachenbraut23
Chiming in to say that Stephen Fry is the "perfect" Harry Potter reader. Although, that I have listened to an audiobook narrated by Jim Dale recently I have to say that he has a fab voice as well.

Hello friends. Well in typical military fashion Nate won't be returning home today and I'm left disappointed.
They are now expected to come home tomorrow ... and to that I say "ya right". We shall see.
At least all my cleaning and errands were finished yesterday and now all I have to do today is read and hang out with the dogs!
I'm working my way through The Scenes Behind the Museum by Kate Atkinson in "real" book form and while it was hard to get into (I've tried once before and put it down) it's starting to get more interesting. On audio I'm listening to A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy read by Stephen Fry and it's been awesome so far. And on eBook I have How to be A Woman by Caitlin Moran which has been a little sex heavy so far. I'm no prude but I'm hoping that she finds a new topic soon as it's getting a tad redundant.
92 HI Micky! I didn't know that about Fry and Adams! Interesting tidbit. I haven't seen the movie before but after I finish the book I think I'll see if I can get the movie. I think it's one that Nate would enjoy
93 HI Nancy! I figured I've read them all about ten times and I've watched the movies at least twice each, so why not listen to the audios! They are so much fun to listen to!
94 Thanks Deb! I have a few other audiobooks on my ipod that are sadly waiting their turn and then I might go to the second HP book Chamber of Secrets.
95 Thanks Rhian! Happy weekend to you!
96 HI Amber! I listened to clips by Fry and by Dale and it was a close race but I felt that I would enjoy Fry more. I'm glad I made the effort to find the books read by him. I wish it was easier to get copies of book published in other countries.
I wanted to get Life after Life on audio and I saw it was available on audible but when I logged into my account I found it wasn't available to Canadians :(
97 Hi Bianca! Yes they both have lovely reading voices. Fry does an AWESOME Hagrid though! Sounds a lot like the actor from the movies!

What a shame re Nate, Chelle. Sounds like you're used to schedules being thrown off. Hope you have a good weekend despite that.
I've listened to the radio play of Hitchhiker's Guide, but you've got me intrigued with Stephen Fry reading it. I like that guy a lot.

I can't believe that I haven't read this before. I laughed and smiled the whole time I listened to this.
I'm too lazy to write a review right now as I'm cooking and drinking wine but here are some of the quotes that made me smile.
“Would it save you a lot of time if I just gave up and went mad now?”
“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”
“I don't want to die now!" he yelled. "I've still got a headache! I don't want to go to heaven with a headache, I'd be all cross and wouldn't enjoy it!”
105ChelleBearss
100 Hi Monica! I hope it's tomorrow too. Who knows with the military.
I'm trying not to mope so I'm cooking chicken frico (soup) and drinking wine while reading :)
101 Thanks for the finger cross Mamie!
102 Thanks for the hugs Bianca! The dogs are sensing my mood as they are moping today too.
103 Hi Joe! Yes unfortunately our experience with the military hasn't lived up to what the recruiters had stated. Although I suppose that is to be expected as a recruited wouldn't be doing it's job properly if he/she told people all the terrible things about a position instead of all the wonderful things.
I adore Stephen Fry and I went and checked and my library doesn't have anything else narrated by him. It was just luck that I picked up the one book they have by him!

Chelle, you've given me a great tip with Stephen Fry as narrator. Glad you enjoyed Hitchhiker's Guide; that's another 1001 that I must get to ... eventually. Btw, appreciate the info on the Goler Clan of the Annapolis; I've got my sister tracking down a copy of On South Mountain to send to me. She's been in that part of NS for years, and is very familiar with the story. Can't wait!
107MickyFine
>104 ChelleBearss: Glad you enjoyed Hitchhiker's. It really is so charming. However, be warned that if you do read/listen to the rest of the books in the series, it does get progressively... odder. Now go check out the film because there are some awesome people in it (which makes up for spots where it varies from the plot of the novel).

Chelle- Just checking in. Hope Nate makes it in today. I'll be watching your thoughts on The Scenes Behind the Museum. I've had this one on the shelf for ages and I love Atkinson.
111ChelleBearss
I am sitting here very impatiently waiting for a phone call saying that Nate's flight has arrived. It was supposed to leave Iceland around 8am WET which is 5am ADT. Since I haven't heard a peep I imagine that the flight actually left today ... so it could arrive anytime now. Patience is not be strong suit!
106 Hi Nancy. I bet your sister lives near me! If you come visit her we should have a meetup!
I would like to read that book but my friend said it is very disturbing so I think I'd need to be in the right state of mind for it
107 Thanks Micky! I found a copy of it and I am sooooo happy to see that not only is Stephen Fry the narrator but Alan Rickman is Marvin the depressed robot (who was on of my faves from the book!) and Mos Def is Ford Prefect! He is so hot! What a superb cast!
108 Thanks for the luv Ellen!
109 I hope so too Kath! I am debating just driving to Greenwood and waiting there. It's only a half hour drive normally but it's snowing pretty good so it could take a bit longer. I'm sure I can find something to do in town while I wait. Waiting here is driving me bonkers lol.

I am very bad at waiting. VERY bad. I am waiting too. I have been waiting for a particular call for two weeks and I am about at my limit, and may be teetering on the brink of sanity. srsly. I hope the call came, or that you did just leave ( which I admit freely is what I would have done) and I hope the blasted snow stops.
113EBT1002
I am also very bad at waiting. I try to tell myself it's an opportunity to read but when I know I have to be somewhere, I just get restless. Right now I'm "waiting" for it to be time for me to go to the venue for the meeting I'm attending here in Michigan. I could be sitting here with a book, but I can't focus.
I hope Nate arrives soon, Chelle.

Hi Chelle, I sure hope you get that call and Nate comes home today. :) Hugs

Hi Chelle, I hope your absence means that Nate is home at last! We'll understand if you're AWOL from us for awhile :0)
117cammykitty
A review of Hitchhikers would never do it justice. Ya just have to read it. & it is wise. I've seen several "somebody elses problem fields" in my life since I learned of their existence from Douglas Adams.

Ha sorry to worry you Cee!! Yes Nate is home!! Yay! He arrived around noon and we spent the day together. The dogs and I are very happy to have him home.
Just before bed I wanted to mark down the book I finished while waiting for Nate this morning.
I'm on my phone in bed so I won't reply to everyone tonight as this is terrible to try and type large amounts on!
Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!

Hi Chelle, good news that Nate is home, you can do some dvd watching now.
124ChelleBearss
Hi friends! I am here and Nate is here and all is well here at home. I wish I could say that for Boston. I saw on the news the terrible events of today and it's so heartbreaking to see something like that happen at an event that is all about health and wellbeing. My heart goes out to anyone affected by this tragedy
Nate and I have been relaxing at home tonight. I had to work today and he caught up on some sleep and puppy time. I've had a nice relaxing bubble bath with the spa kit from the Blue Lagoon that Nate brought home. Heavenly!
Tomorrow if it doesn't rain we will be heading to the zoo with our friend and his kids. I'm excited to go see all the baby animals and the african lion cub! Hope everyone has a good week!
112 Kath I ended up giving in and leaving. I waited at the base about 90 minutes before his plane landed. I parked my car so I could watch the runway and see his plane land and apparently I parked watching a runway that isn't in use and they landed on a runway that I couldn't see. I found out he landed when he called me and asked for a ride lol
113 You are like me Ellen! I brought a book with me and ended up listening to an audiobook instead because I kept looking up at the runway and it was too hard to focus on the book
114 Thanks Monica! I am happy to have him home
115 Nancy that would be great! I've done one meetup before and always up for another :)
116 Ha Lynda I'm trying not to be completely awol this week but Nate is on vacation for two weeks so I won't be a huge presence here
117 Hi Katie! I am surprised that it took me this long to read it! I've heard about it many times over the years but never picked it up
119 Sorry again Cee!! I just wanted to mark my book down before I forgot :) All is well
121 Thanks Roni! He is happy to be home!
122 Thanks Amber! We watched End of Watch instead of Super Troopers
123 Thanks John! We are doing lots of relaxing and not much reading but I'm ok with that!

YAY, Nate's home.
It must be hard having him away for so long, I know when my brother is away (on photography trips), my SiL has a hard slog looking after the kids for 3 weeks or so at a time.
>115 lit_chick: count me in- that's a meetup Id like to attend. Chances are I wont be able to make it, but....humour me? ;)

Just chiming in with all the hoorays for you - finally having Nate home. Enjoy your time together. I hope you will have lots of fun at the zoo and give a hug to the baby animals for me. :)

128ChelleBearss
125 Hi Megan! Yes it was hard to have him gone but I think it would be even harder if I had kids to take care of and work. Thankfully it's just the dogs (for now) and they are pretty forgiving and relatively low maintenance :)
126 Hi Bianca! I cuddled a llama for you! The baby lion cub was adorable but for some reason the staff wouldn't let me hug him ;)
127 Hi Deb!

60) How to be a Woman by Caitlin Moran (3.5*)
Read for:
75 Books Challenge for 2013,
2013 Category Challenge: Books from my Kobo eReader
Tip: Do not read this book in bed at night while your spouse is sleeping. Apparently laughing hysterically will shake the bed and wake said spouse...
The section on child rearing was my favorite. I laughed A LOT! This is the quote that woke my husband up in the middle of the night.

Nothing is impossible anymore. One thing's for sure: by the time your child is two years old, you will look back at what you were like before you had a child and regard yourself as a weak, spineless, dandified, pampered, ineffectual, shallow time-wasting dilettante.
Every parent has their particular moment where they realize that, since they've had a child, nothing really fazes them anymore. For me, it was the day that potty-training Lizzie went wrong, and I had to kick a poo across a falconry display in a marquee at Regent's Park Zoo. I had the left foot of Beckham, the icy composure of Audrey Hepburn on a catwalk, and the quick-thinking disposal nous of whoever it was that first thought of entombing radioactive material in concrete.

So glad your Nate is home again, Chelle. The day he was expected and didn't come must have been the longest day ever. It's good he wasn't delayed too long.

HI friends!
I've been awol lately as Nate is on vacation and demands my time :) We've been on a healthy eating kick and have been researching and trying out new and healthy recipes. It's been a fun couple weeks but he goes back to work Monday and life should resume some sort of normality! I haven't been reading much but I've finished a couple books
61) Behind the Scene at the Museum by Kate Atkinson (3*)
62) The Terra-Cotta Dog by by Andrea Camilleri (3.5*)
I'm still working on One Good Turn by Kate Atkinson but I'm about to run out of time and it has no holds as someone else has it held :( I hope to finish it in time but I am very doubtful as I only have two days left.
129 HA Cee, I know eh! Sooner or later that will be me!
130 It's an easy read Amber but funny in quite a few spots. The first chapters are sex obsessed though
131 Thanks Donna. It's nice to have him home again! Thankfully he wasn't gone too long
132 Hi Micky! Yep we watched it and I loved it. I didn't realize that Nate had already seen it but he watched it again happily! Hope you are getting some of this wonderful spring weather!
133 Hi Tina! It could have been funnier to me because it was night and I was tired, but I though the end half was pretty funny
134 HI Ellen! Sometimes we all need instructions ;)
135 Nancy he just grumbled at me and was asleep again in seconds :)
136 Thanks Lori! You as well!
137 Hi Roni! It has been nice to have him home and on vacation but he is cutting into my reading time ;)
138 Thanks Paul! I'll have to pop by your thread (or threads as I'm sure I am far behind) and see how your trip went!

We are getting beautiful spring weather, strangely enough. ;) Highs around 15C for the past couple days. Although today we have a wind warning in effect as there are supposed to be gusts nearing 90 km/h. Glad it was calm this morning while I was out.
141DeltaQueen50
Great to hear from you Chelle, it's nice that you and Nate had some time together after his trip.

How did /is the healthy eating going? Any recipes to share?
Great quote form the Caitlin Morans book, I think Id grab one of those if I came across it reasonably priced :) She sounds hilarious.

Hi everyone!! Thanks so much for the birthday wishes!! It's been a great day! I worked today and then we went out for dinner with friends. I may have had a few drinks too ;) I feel so very blessed and a little spoiled today! Nate dug in a vegetable garden for me and got me a night away at the resort that we got married at! We go next week and I am soooo looking forward to it!
Sorry I've been absent but I've been finding it hard to find time to be online lately. I am hoping that changes soon and I hope to get on a better routine. Miss you all!! xo
140 Hi Micky! Hope the spring weather has found you! Have you left for your trip yet?I'll have to pop by and see on your thread
141 Hi Judy! Nate and I have been spending a lot of time together lately, it's been very nice!
142 HI Rhian. I found that I struggled with Behind the Scenes at the Museum. I found the story was a little too slow for my liking. I almost put it down and walked away from it but I ended up finishing it. I don't think I would recommend it to many people
143 HI Paul! Nate tends to tire me out instead of the opposite! Tonight I am super tired and heading to bed shortly! Turning 30 for the third time is really quite tiring ;-0
144 Thanks John! Hope you had a good weekend!
145 Hi Nancy! I am sooo behind! I don't even have the 200 posts needed to start a new thread :( Oh well, I guess I'll start a new one for June
146 Thanks Mamie! I worked the weekend but we still found time to garden and hang out. It was nice :) Hope you are getting good use of that amazing pool!
147 Thanks Calm! It was a very nice day!
148 Thanks Amber!

150 Thanks Judy! It was a good night!
151 HI Megan! It's going well ... kinda! I find when Nate is home and we both make an effort it goes well. When he works nights I find I am LAZY! And then I eat like crap. We started eating quinoa last week and it's delicious and so versatile! It's my new favorite food. I was so sad that we couldn't do Sunday brunch with friends eggs and bacon, so instead we are making quinoa patties with soft poached eggs. MMMM!
So delish!
http://www.thecurvycarrot.com/2011/07/16/quinoa-cakes-with-poached-eggs/
And mediteranean quinoa salad is my second fave
http://www.skinnytaste.com/2013/04/mediterranean-quinoa-salad.html?_ziplist=disa...
We also tried tofu which was Ok, no superb but good, and veggie dogs which were gross.
Tonight was NOT healthy (Richards red beer, fried clams and ice cream cake!! Mmmmm!!)
152 Hi Kath! All is wonderful in Chelle Land :) Hope Kath land is going welL!
153 HI Mark! I have three books on the go right now but as soon as I finish up those I will start Ghosts of Nagasaki with you! Is anyone else joining in? I was going to read Year of the Flood next but since the third book isn't out until the fall I have some extra time.

A happy belated Birthday to you Chelle. I just assume that your ongoing absence means you are well.
Thanks for hugging the llama baby for me - and I wonder why they didn't let you hug the lion cub. How silly of the caretakers at the zoo!
I hope you enjoyed your time at the place of your honeymoon and hope you have got a brilliant weekend!

Hi Chelle! Happy belated birthday! It sounds like life has been lovely lately!
I'm a tiny bit sad that you weren't thrilled with Behind the Scenes at the Museum, as it's one of my favorites, but I suppose the world would be boring if we all liked the same things.

LOL
I suppose we all fall off the wagon from time to time.
have been making Laksa lately, and making it healthy by having a tiny bit of coconut milk in and heaps of vege stock instead. Rice noodles, home made curry paste, lime juice! It is a tangy treat.
I have never tried quinoa but have heard heaps about it.

Thanks for the birthday wishes friends! I've had my first day off in a week today and it's been a whirlwind of activity! House is cleaned and some baking done (quinoa breakfast bars Mmm) I'm still in the middle of the never ending pile of laundry and some packing for our night away tomorrow. So excited for lobster, wine and a night at the ocean!
Thanks so much Cee, Linda, Mark, Roni, Katie, Nora, Joe, Kath, John, Nancy, Rhian, Lynda, Ellen, Bianca, Lori, Mamie, Kerri & Megan!
156 Hi Cee!
Nope, no homemade cake from Nate. He won't attempt to bake me a cake and he knows that I despise grocery store baked cakes so he got me an ice cream cake Mmmmm!!
We head up to Peggy's Cove tomorrow! So excited! :)
165 Nancy we are loving it! Our bulk foods store has organic quinoa for a good price so we have stocked up on it!
166 Oh Lynda those cookies look delish! I love pumpkin everything! Nate dislikes it so that means when I cook with it I don't have to share ;)
168 Hi Amber! How did your recipes turn out? I have a client that is gluten free and it freaks me out cooking for him as I don't know much about it. I am learning quick though
173 Google away Kath! I've been baking with it quite a bit lately and everything has turned out YUMM!
174 Ha Kerri, it would be a boring place for sure! I didn't dislike Behind the Scenes at the Museum but I found it lacking something ...

173 Google away Kath! I've been baking with it quite a bit lately and everything has turned out YUMM!
174 Ha Kerri, it would be a boring place for sure! I didn't dislike Behind the Scenes at the Museum but I found it lacking something ...
175 Hi Megan! I've never heard of Laksa before ... off to google!

Hi Chelle- Hope you are having a terrific weekend. I am only 50 pages into The Ghosts of Nagasaki but I am really enjoying it. I like the flow and his style, with just a touch of Murakami.

Stopping by to say hi! I hope you having a wonderful weekend . I'm sorry to see that I missed your birthday! Pumpkin-Quinoa cookies! That would be so up my husband's alley! He eats quinoa every morning mixed in with his bowl of grains, blueberries and various other fruits. I mght have to get that recipe from you!

HI everyone!
WOW I feel so loved!! Sorry I have been away so long but I haven't had much time for chatting and I haven't been feeling overly social to tell the truth. I'm still dealing with some minor health issues which has left me frustrated. Nothing major but between work, life and heading to many doctor appointments I've just lost steam and usually in bed early!
This past weekend was the Apple Blossom Festival so we have been on the go since Friday with a concert and fireworks, beach with the dogs and lobster night with friends. It's been a whirlwind couple weeks and I've hardly done any reading at all! I've finished a couple audiobooks that I've managed to fit in while driving and cleaning and I'm half way through The Golem and the Jinni which I am really enjoying! I read half of The Ghosts of Nagasaki and found it too dense for my current mindset so I will go back to it later.
Thanks so much for the love! I am working the next 9 days so I doubt I'll have much time to visit everyone but I will try and make the rounds soon! Thanks for keeping my thread warm in my absence! XO

Thanks for checking in, Chelle! I was getting worried, so good to know that all is well, but sorry about the frustrating health issues and the crazy busy days. Sending you my good thoughts and wishes!

Hahaha Mark; you said what in our darkest moments some of us must have thought! One of the drawbacks of the ether in that if one of our pals suddenly goes AWOL........
Another phew! from me too. xxx
