A book I've wanted to read for years finally $1.99 on Amazon. The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell. I really enjoyed Mitchell's Black Swan Green for its warm, imaginative, and believable portrayal of the inner life of a young boy growing up in the English countryside.

>38 Limelite: I enjoyed The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet - read it last year and followed up by reading all of the David Mitchell novels I hadn’t yet read. Now waiting for his next one - I enjoy spotting the characters who cross between the novels!

I’m a bit tardy reporting on my acquisitions as I’m trying to focus on the actual reading and meet an end of year target.

>43 Limelite: and >44 cdyankeefan: Thank you both for your comments. I've been recovering from a fall -- nothing broken, just lots of pains and strains in places I didn't know I had places anymore. I haven't been reading much at all, so I'm not sure why I'm still buying books, but these were irresistible to me, and two were gifts from friends who believe their choices will spark my interest in reading again. I'm not sure I can get much done until after Christmas, but perhaps the week after I'll be able to read at least one or two books before year's end.

Reading The Golden House by Salman Rushdie. A quite clever piece of work, but not in anyway a novel you can't put down. An elegant writer, in this book a just so, so novelist.

Ravilious & Co.: The Pattern of Friendship by Andy Friend

I became interested in Eric Ravilious and his work several years ago and was delighted to see a piece about him at the nige blog last week:

http://nigeness.blogspot.com/2017/12/the-pattern-of-friendship.html

I ordered a copy of this book and it arrived so quickly -- I suppose the vendor assumed it was a Christmas present. And I guess it is -- for myself.
