I'll be listing the books I've read in 2017, probably on a monthly basis. I'm hoping to reach a round 100 books read!

January Reads
1 Why I Love School - Daniel Howarth
A children's book about starting school.
2 My First Day at School - Rosie Smith
A children's book about starting school.
3 The Fearsome, Frightening, Ferocious Box - Frances Watts
A delightful children's book.
4 A Forger's Tale - Shaun Greenhalgh
An amazing true story. Shaun Greenhalgh clearly has some artistic ability so it's a mystery to me why he would choose to "copy" other artists or offer forgeries for sale when he could be presenting it (and getting credit for it) as his own work.
5 An Aussie Day Before Christmas - Kilmeny Niland
An Australianised Christmas story.
6 The Husband Hunters - Anne de Courcy
An interesting story but written in a much more serious and academic style than I was expecting.
7 The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog - Bruce D. Perry & Maia Szalavitz
Interesting psychiatric case studies involving traumatised children.

February Reads
8 Big Blue Truck - Sue King (illustrator)
A children's book.
9 Don't Wake Up Tiger! - Britta Teckentrup
A delightful children's book.
10 Where Am I Now? - Mara Wilson
An autobiography from the former child actress who starred in the movie Matilda.
11 The Gonna Bird - Joy Cowley
A quick and easy read children's book.
12 Parrotfish - Tanya Turner
This book is billed as a picture book but, to my mind, there's far too many words to count as a picture book. To me, it's just an illustrated book.
13 Get Me The Urgent Biscuits - Sweetpea Slight
An interesting account about working in the theatrical world in London in the 1980s and 90s. And, no, Sweetpea is *not* her real name!
14 I Love You, Grandma! - Tish Rabe
A Little Golden Book. It must be a relatively recent title as it's not a Little Golden Book that I remember from my own childhood.
15 The Twelve Little Cakes - Dominika Dery
An interesting account of a childhood in communist Czechoslovakia in the 1970s and 80s. It seemed to have an abrupt ending and I would have liked to have heard something of the author's teenage years and how she came to travel to Australia.

16 Corduroy's Christmas - Don Freeman
A Christmas-themed children's book.
17 I'm Australian Too - Mem Fox
A children's book about immigration.
18 David Sedaris Diaries : a Visual Compendium - Jeffrey Jenkins & David Sedaris
An illustrated description of the many volumes that make up David Sedaris' diaries over the years. Containing illustrations, photos and ephemera, they're surprisingly visual for a writer!
19 How to be Champion : My Autobiography - Sarah Millican
A comedian's autobiography. Although amusing, there seems to many recurring/repeated themes that gives the story a "padded-out" feel.
20 On Chesil Beach - Ian McEwan
A rereading of a book I first read several years ago (when it was first released). More depressing than I remember it!
21 Secrets of a Lazy French Cook - Marie-Morgane le Moël
A biography of a French journalist who migrated to Australia. Despite the book's title, and the recipes included at the end of each chapter, there's basically nothing in the text that has any connection with food or cooking.
22 Rudolph Falls Asleep! - Unknown
A very brief Christmas-themed children's board book.

The story of adopting a child from China in short, amusing anecdotes.

May Reads
40 25 Royal Babies That Changed the World - Amy Licence
My personal opinion is that many of the royal births described in this book really didn't change the world much. Possibly should really have been called "25 Royal Babies That Became a British Monarch".
41 Owl Babies - Martin Waddell
Delightful children's book with lovely illustrations.
42 Daughter of the Reich - Louise Fox, Cindy Dowling
An interesting account of a German woman who worked for the German military in WWII and how she came to live in Australia after the war.
43 The Witch of Kings Cross - Nevill Drury
The author prided himself on having written an objective, unbiased account of Rosaleen Norton's life. Unfortunately, being so objective and unbiased led to some pretty dry reading on would was undoubtedly a colourful bohemian life.
44 A Country Wife - Lucy Pinney
I believe that some of the work in this book appeared over time as a column in a UK newspaper. Gee, I don't know how anyone could persevere as a farmer in the UK. It seems to be backbreaking, heartbreaking work!
45 Nothing Bad Ever Happens in Tiffany's (Penguin Pocket 70) - Marian Keyes
Short excerpts of writing in Marian Keyes' very clear voice.

A children's book.
128 My Christmas Crackers - Bronwen Davies
A children's book of Christmas cracker jokes.
129 The Poky Little Puppy - Margaret Wise Brown
A children's book. A Little Golden Book classic.
130 Bread, Jam and a Borrowed Pram - Dot May Dunn
Story of a health visitor in London in the 1950s. Sounds very grim!
131 The Ring & The Opposite of Death - Robert Saviano
A compilation of two short stories. A bit perplexing - not sure if it's the writing or the translation.
