We thought in another thread that it might be fun to play a Stephen King game and give clues to guess the character, story or book. First person to guess correctly gets to pick the next character and set the clues.
Since it was me who suggested it I've been given the job of starting things off and will start with an easy one.
Clue: I live with my mother in Derry and have a great sense of direction.

Would that be Duddits in Dreamcatcher? I'm reaching--I didn't keep that book and haven't read it since it first came out. :-|
3QueenOfDenmark
No, not Duddits and not Dreamcatcher. I'll give another clue.
Clue: I grew up to drive a limo.

5Bookmarque
That would be Eddie Kaspbrak. And what a mother she was!
6QueenOfDenmark
It was Eddie, well done. So, your turn to post a question.

Hey Bookmarque: How much coffee did you drink that kept you guzzing for two weeks?
Come on. Give us something to guess on!!
Come on. Give us something to guess on!!

Someone? Anyone? I think it's time for someone to start a new one, regardless of who guess the last one!
12Booksloth
Go for it becky! I won't be around long enough! (Though I'll still be trying a few gueses at yours before I disappear.)
13Madcow299
There is another thread name that S.K Story that I believe is the cause of the demise of this one.

Madcow, I believe you are right. If I had my books with me I would attempt to revive this thread, but I'm at work and my book are at home. :(

Moving over from Name this S K? story...
Good luck. I tried to make it "win-able" but not too easy!
"Yes. Oh yes. And your soul as well. But you'll have your pride. That'll be left to you, at least. And isn't a woman entitled to her pride? When everything else is gone--heart, soul, even the man you love--you'll have that...won't you? You'll have that one coin without which your purse would be empty. Let it be your dark and bitter comfort for the rest of your life. Let it serve. It must serve, because if you keep on the way you're going, there surely won't be no other."

17TheBentley
Nope, but that's a really good guess that I wouldn't have thought of...
18stefferjo
Sounds like it comes from a book with a strong female character. Is it Dolores Claiborne?
19CandiBelle
My first guess, and my gut guess is Insomnia.
If not I know this guess sounds weird but for some reason when I read the quote i thought of it being something Bobby's mom thought to herself in Hearts In Atlantis. Totally random.

20Madcow299
Perhaps the creature in the painting in Rose Madder
21TheBentley
No one has it yet.
A couple of hints. CandiBelle is thinking along the right lines in saying it's something going on in a character's mind. I didn't add the italics--they're original. She's also thinking along the right lines that it's not one of the "women's books," although I know it sounds a lot like one.

22jseger9000
Could it be Wendy from The Shining? During one of Jack's breakdowns?
23QueenOfDenmark
I keep thinking of the name Susan while reading it but Im not sure if I am trying to make it fit Susannah in one of the Dark Tower books. So I am going to guess at Dark Tower 7 where Susannah is alone in New York.
24CandiBelle
What about Bag of Bones?
25paghababian
Jodyreadseverything made me think Wizard and Glass...
26klarsenmd
Perhaps Needful things
27TheBentley
Nicely done, klarsenmd. The play is to you...
29CandiBelle
ugh! *disappointment* somehow it seems that all quotes point to Needful Thing and the Dark Tower series both which i haven't read yet.
but bravo klarsenmd!
but bravo klarsenmd!
30klarsenmd
What to choose? What to choose? That's the hard part about winning, trying to come-up with something equally interesting. I think I may have a decent one here.
Bib overalls and a big handshake from a guy who looks like an overgrown Siberian husky and smells a little bit like a hayloft after a heavy rain...

31jseger9000
That quote makes me think of Tom Cullen from The Stand... is that too obvious?
32QueenOfDenmark
I think it's Wolf from The Talisman. It's the husky bit that makes me think it.
33Madcow299
Or one of the twins from Wolves of Calla
34klarsenmd
I guess that one was a bit easier. Congrats Jodyreadseverything, it is in fact Wolf from The Talisman!
35QueenOfDenmark
Thanks, klarsenmd. It was the husky bit that gave it away.
We were doing it because we were so different, so different and so horrible that its many eyes could hardly see us, could hardly hold on to our images as we surrounded it screaming and chopping and cutting and hitting.

38QueenOfDenmark
He's not right though, sorry, it's not IT.
40QueenOfDenmark
Not insomnia or Graveyard Shift either.
41jseger9000
You've got a toughie here. It's funny because it seems so specific it should be easy. But for me at least I keep getting stuck on the final showdown with It.
42QueenOfDenmark
Well, to give a clue, it isn't exactly a showdown because it isn't the main enemy (not quite the right word but I don't know what else to call it) and it doesn't happen at the end of the book.
44QueenOfDenmark
That's it. Spoiler alert:
It's the part where some kind of person comes out of the car and the dog goes mad to get to it and the deputies and radio lady fight it off and kill it.
I feel a bit guilty now that jseger didn't get it after working so hard. Sorry. Your go though Bentley.

"I seen you smoking," he said again, walking toward her. His eyes moved across her chest and her narrow uncurved hips. He chanted suddenly, in a high schoolboy's voice that frightened her even more: "A girl who will chew gum will smoke! A girl who will smoke will drink! And a girl who will drink, everyone knows what a girl like that will do!"
46jseger9000
#44 - Jody,
Don't feel guilty. I haven't read From a Buick 8 yet. (As I type this I'm carefully avoiding the spoiler in your message.)

Gosh, Madcow. Fifty-four minutes? Really?
I've got to look for some tougher quotes. Some of you are too good.

Is it from Dreamcatcher when they were in the cabin at the beginning looking for the *ahem* shitweazle?
#46 jseger - it's a great book, I love it, but it just doesn't tell you enough. I wanted more of everything in it.

That's Bag of Bones.
57Madcow299
nope, I have to get ready for church, but I'll post hints after it no one has guessed. happy hunting
58stefferjo
Oh, I know what it is now, but I had to cheat to get it. It's one I haven't read yet so I'll let someone else win this round. It was just too intriguing to not know...what's so scary about finding robins' eggs?

62quartzite
hm, then Black House?
64jseger9000
Man, I need to read The Talisman and Black House.
Stephen King and Peter Straub are two of my favorite writers. I think I've been putting these off because I'm afraid I'll somehow find the combo disappointing.

so disheartening.

Man, I'm away for a couple of days and miss all kinds of great clues. I agree with beeg, the combo will NOT disappoint.

"She had also taught Sunday scholl and been much loved in that little backwater. LIBRARIAN DIES OF HEART FAILURE the headline said and below that, almost as an afterthought 'Served Two Decades in Prison For Murder.'"
70jseger9000
I was thinking The Library Policeman, but thought that was too obvious.
72jseger9000
Ditto on the Green Mile
Yeah, but the character in question was a she.
I was thinking maybe Dolores Claiborne but that's a total guess as I've so far only seen the movie. (Very good movie BTW.)

*excitement* ok here it goes...
"Maybe he could only manage one lonely trombone then, but he's got the whole band playing now doesn't he?"
"Maybe he could only manage one lonely trombone then, but he's got the whole band playing now doesn't he?"
78jseger9000
Yeah, that's the band in The Shining. (Though my first guess was something from The Tommyknockers for some reason.)
81jseger9000
Oooh... you're crafty CandiBelle.
Hmm, I'm pretty sure I've read this one. I'm almost positive it refers to a character who has become unhinged.

83CandiBelle
nope. :P
85TheBentley
The Stand?
I don't think it's necessarily a character who's come unhinged, exactly. I think it's referring to some kind of power--psychic power maybe--like the ability to call people to you? That's exactly the kind of metaphor King's characters use to talk about that stuff. I would almost think it's the Crimson King, but you said you hadn't read the Dark Tower books...

86CandiBelle
Sorry Madcow its not Roadwork, which I am still puzzled by. I just canyt wrap my head around it. The story is so random.
And TheBentley, its not The Stand. Thank you for recognizing that the Dark Tower books will be instantly omitted from this clue. I just cant put myself to read them until I have them all in my possession. Freakish mindset, maybe. But I just want them all right next to me. No room for excuses for not getting to the next book and forgetting what I read in the last ones simply because I don't have them at hand.

Very good. I didn't even think about that. This one is a good clue. It is nagging at me because I'm pretty sure, but not positive that I've read it.
Oh! Could it maybe be Duddits from Dreamcatcher?

nope. not Duddits or Charlie. :P
89TheBentley
It is a really good clue. It just sounds so familiar, but I can't put my finger on it. In fact, it sounds so familiar, I'm thinking it might be one of the new books that I've read recently--maybe Lisey's Story referring to Scott?
By the way, I'm surprised it wasn't Duddits. That sounds just like the dialog in that book...

90stefferjo
Is it Needful Things? It reminds me of one of the flashbacks when a customer finds that "something special" in the shop.
91QueenOfDenmark
It's so hot here, haven't the energy to check if anyone said Insomnia yet but if not then it's my guess. I think maybe Ralph talking about Ed Deepneau.
92CandiBelle
It's not a quote from Lisey's thoughts. Having not read Needful Things we're out of steam there. And as far as I know Ralph has never mentioned anything to me.
:)
:)
93jseger9000
I haven't read it, so a total guess, but is it from The Dead Zone? I'm trying to think of the different books/stories that feature characters who either gain powers or become unhinged. There's a lot!
95StefanY
I might have an idea on this one. Is it from Dreamcatcher when the hunter that they bring to the cabin has the really bad case of gas?
97CandiBelle
the theories have gotten you closer than you think.
99TheBentley
What about Cell?
100QueenOfDenmark
Maybe Rose Madder?
101CandiBelle
no. sorry to disappoint.
im hesitant to add to the clue because I think that it captures the whole idea of the story, and many of u are swimming around the bait. i have no urge to throw more chum in the water.
(theres my Shark Week reference for u)
the only hint i can give is that it IS a MAIN character. you cant have the story with out him. *grin* think outside the typical.

Well, I've noticed you never say it's not Dreamcatcher, so now I'm pretty sure that is the book. I'm lost on the character though.
I'll guess Mr. Gray. Thinking about when he had complete control of the warehouse...

It's not George Stark in The Dark Half, is it? I thought I knew every possible quote from every SK book ever written. I feel really stupid now - haven't got a single one right so far!
105jseger9000
#103 - lol my fault. its is NOT Dreamcatcher.
thus far the book nor character has been mentioned.
Doh! I thought I was soooo clever!

106jseger9000
Oh! Is it The Regulators? I'm thinking of the kid (whose name I'm spacing on), offscreen for most of the book, but the driving force behind it.
The Dark Half is a good guess and it fits the clues, but didn't George Stark emerge fully formed?
(Imagine how dumb I'll feel, sounding so confident in my reasonng when it turns out to be The Dark Half.)

107Booksloth
#106 Yeah, I knew I was wrong when I said it. Can you explain what you said about George Stark emerging fully formed? Am I looking at the wrong clue, or have I missed another hint somewhere?
108Booksloth
Anyway - if it IS the one I think it is, I'll also have a try at Jessie, musing on her dead husband in Gerald's Game. I have a reason for thinking this - I'm not just playing 'Name-all-the-stephen-king-books-you-can-think-of'. Yet.
109jseger9000
#107 - Booksloth,
Hey, I doubt I'm right. I haven't been yet.
But anyway, the clue was: "Maybe he could only manage one lonely trombone then, but he's got the whole band playing now doesn't he?"
To me that implies something that starts out weak and is growing stonger.
In The Dark Half George Stark arrives (I'm trying to be vague on the off chance it may be a spoiler for someone) as a 'High Tone Son of a Bitch' right from the get-go. He doesn't really gain strength through the novel, does he? Maybe I'm not remembering right though...

113jseger9000
Okay, most of the quotes on here offer an example of what a fine writer Stephen King is. This one doesn't really do that. Also, if it is too vague, lemmee know and I will provide clues. (One clue: This quote isn't as vague or random as it may appear.)
Here goes: "'Course you can't!" he snapped. "Can't see the hour hand move on your wristwatch, either, can you? Buggardly thing moves too slow to see... unless you watch it all the time..."

I feel like this is right on the tip of my tongue, the voice sounds so familiar... I just can't place it.
116beeg
(I love that story, my dad has a truck in the field that always made me think of this story)
118jseger9000
Yeah, beeg nailed it. I love that story too, though I knew my quote was either going to be too easy (if I gave a clue) or too vague (if I didn't). I knew when it was my turn I was going to use an old SK short story. I was looking for something from The Jaunt, but every other word in that story seemed to be 'jaunt'. Survivor Type was another one, but again, all the quotes seemed too obvious.
119Booksloth
But it still would have been worth it. Survivor Type is one of the funniest stories I have ever read - I howled with laughter all the way through. (Or am I just a bit sick?)
121Booksloth
It's in Skeleton Crew (I'm 99% sure - my son seems to have pinched my copy at the moment) and I guess you have to have a very dark sense of humour to find it funny, though I do like to think King was crouched over his word-processor going 'Heh-Heh-Heh!' in manic fashion while he was writing it. Actually, I often feel that way about King. People rarely seem to mention him in connection with humour - or am I the only person who's that weird?
122TheBentley
I always feel that way about Needful Things. When you read it, you can tell he had so much fun killing off Castle Rock...
123jseger9000
Madcow,
Yeah, you do need to read more of King's short stories. I'd suggest starting with Skeleton Crew. That's where all the stories we've been talking about (Uncle Otto's Truck, The Jaunt, Survivor Type) come from. Plus you get The Mist. What's not to love?

124Madcow299
I have the mist as a seperate novella. I have read Everything's Eventual, and Four Past midnight, but those were both year's ago. I have been reading a more varied authorship and have stuck to his novels and of course the DT series.
125beeg
Cats are different, though. A cat won't curry favor even if it's in the their best interests to do so, A cat can't be a hypocrite. If more preachers were like cats, this would be a religious country again.
129CandiBelle
is it Insomnia?
133Booksloth
I got one! I got one! (Dancing round the room). I don't know why that particularly stuck in my mind but, as it's finally got me a cookie on this thread, I'm glad it did. Don't suppose I'll be here long (you guys are waaaay too good) but I'll have a try.
Okay then - this is a description of a character, so it's the character being described whose name I want.
"He was a narrow man with a wide face. His cheeks were always flushed. You could see his pink scalp in the tracks left by the teeth of his comb."

142CandiBelle
Before my quote I wanted to tell everybody to check out the new layout of Stephenking.com. I hadn't been there in a while and was blown away with all of the new stuff that's coming out.
now for the good stuff...
"But he was lying about something. It was in his eyes...oh shit, it was all over his face, almost as if he wanted me to see the lie...see it and put a stop to it...because part of him was scared...so scared."

ok you simply type to start italics and to close them. Of course you need to remove the spaces inbetween, I added them so you could see the keystrokes.
151jseger9000
I didn't know we could close other folks italics. LT lesson for the day.
I'll try and guess when I get home. My problem is off the top of my head the only SK stories I can remember that were first person are Jerusalem's Lot (where the modern style of the quote doesn't fit) or Rage.
Oh wait! It could be Rage, couldn't it? Yeah, that's what I'll guess.

Or Needful Things? I'm not just stabbing around wildly here - I have reasons for suspecting these. Or have you done a sort of doubling back to my Hearts in Atlantis? This is so familiar it's driving my crazy!
155QueenOfDenmark
From a Buick 8? The policemen and dispatcher lady take turns to tell the story, so it could be one of them talking.
156CandiBelle
its not Rage my friend. sorry.
lol. Booksloth I am positive that its not Christine, not because I know the answer but also if it is then SK made a mistake (I havent read it that book yet). and not Insomnia or Needful Things either.

Could be Shawshank. That would fit. I keep thinking of The Stand although I can't say why.
159CandiBelle
nope not Shawshank, and not The Stand.
160Booksloth
Bag of Bones? I don't even know why I'm asking. I'm so sure I'm wrong. This is driving me mad!
161Madcow299
I wanna say Secret Garden maybe, I'm guessing.
164TheBentley
I'm going to guess Duma Key, but I don't have much confidence in it. That first-person voice is tricky. King doesn't use the first person much in his novels. It's mostly his short stories...
165Booksloth
I'm sure it can't be Duma Key because that's the only one I haven't read yet and this is so familiar to me. Don't take my word for it though.
ETA - Any chance of a clue here?
ETA - Any chance of a clue here?
166CandiBelle
So far no one has guessed correctly and i think its the first person narrative giving it a bad name.
"But he was lying about something. It was in his eyes...oh shit, it was all over his face, almost as if he wanted me to see the lie...see it and put a stop to it...because part of him was scared...so scared."
here's the hint... the person speaking IS NOT the main character, they are in fact speaking OF the main character.

Here's what I'm thinking: The book isn't actually in first person, is it? You didn't add the italics. They were in the original text? And those thoughts as complete sentences aren't common in King. In fact, off the top of my head, I can only think of one book where the characters "think" in complete sentences like that, but I'm sure there are others. Is it The Dark Half? Maybe Alan Pangborn or maybe Liz talking about Thad...
170CandiBelle
I did add the italics. The quote is straight from the text as you see it.
It is not from The Dark Half or the Dark Tower books. It would be easier to guess if you look at the content as a whole instead of picking it apart.

Going out on a limb here....Guessing The Shining...where the wife is starting to get worried about Johnny's intentions...
172CandiBelle
no but your definitely on the right track. :)
173stefferjo
Is it Sarah talking about Johnny in The Dead Zone?
175TheBentley
In that husband and wife tradition, I'll go Pet Sematary. But actually, I'm thinking The Dead Zone sounds pretty good, stefferjo. That's one I don't think we've hit on here.
178Booksloth
Thanks Bentley! Maybe now I'll sleep tonight! Unless you pick something equally difficult, that is.
179jseger9000
oh! Where in Pet Sematary is that quote? Pet Sematary is one of the books I considered when it was my shot.
180CandiBelle
i have the hardcover Doubleday edition and on there its on page 324. Just a few paragraphs before chapter 55.
Rachel is thinking about the conversation she just finished having with Judd and her last vision of Louis.
good stuff.

Hooray!
Here we go...
"For a moment he almost told her, told her everything. Something stopped him, and he was never sure later what it was...except that, for one moment, sitting there on the edge of his desk and facing her with their daughter watching TV in the other room and one of her cigarettes in his hand, he felt a sudden savage moment of hate for her."
I have added the italics, but not the ellipses (lest you think I left something out). Everything inside the quotes is unchanged. Good luck!
Had to edit to close my italics. Feel better CandiBelle? LOL

and I dont remember many flashbacks of the dad in Firestarter hating the mom, if anything they missed her. that was my second guess.
but now im remembering that in The Running Man Ben adored his wife.
Im thinking Thinner. possibly when hes thinking of telling the wife about the gypsy curse. i admit i own the book but I havent read it, only watched the movie a few weeks ago. maybe im stretching it to fit.

185TheBentley
You aren't stretching it to fit. That's it right down to the moment. I knew using a quote with the daughter in it was risky, but less than three hours !?! I thought Thinner would be a little more obscure than that...
186jseger9000

Made me feel better anyway. My quote was also solved in that three hour window.

my first hint was the daughter, that narrowed down the books quite a bit. then i had to think of the husband who hated his wife. in the movie i remember thinking what a bastard he was and just threw it out there.
*lowers head* im sorry. blame the movie.

189QueenOfDenmark
#187 - That's really odd that you were thinking the husband was a bastard as when I read the book I kept thinking the wife was a bitch and I sympathised with him.
It would be interesting to me now to see the film and compare.
Thinner came to mind instantly for me but far too late, you had it already.

I think they did a pretty good job with the movie, the actor did a great transformation from fat man to emaciated. Uncle Stevie does a cameo as well.

i had considered one quote but decided to knock it and pick another one in honor of a day well spent with good company.
"Also, I have to spend a penny." ___ nodded.... ___ could spend her penny; he intended to pop into the men's room and let go a couple of dollars."

193TheBentley
I don't know why, but that almost sounds like Children of the Corn. (Wow, I'm impressed with the touchstone. I typed the name of the story and it immediately brought up Night Shift.)
194Booksloth
If it's not that one then I'm thinking urinary problems (as you do). The Green Mile?
195jseger9000
These last few quotes, my mind has glazed over. I keep watching the boards for the answer but have no good guesses of my own.
I'm guessing Children of the Corn will be right. The quote makes me think of a couple driving a long distance and stopping. I'm just not sure if the first part of CandiBelle's message i had considered one quote but decided to knock it and pick another one in honor of a day well spent with good company was a clue...

I agree with Booksloth...sounds like the Green Mile
197CandiBelle
Its defintely not the Green Mile or Children of the Corn.
and jseger i guess you can consider it a hint to the clue but i dont think it will help any.

198QueenOfDenmark
Is it the Dead Zone?
200ealaindraoi
I think it's Insomnia - Lois says several cute things like that.
Your hint - I think it's after they spend some time "above' and time is different from time "below".

yeah its Insomnia. I actually spent the day with my grandparents who rock my world and decided to pick from that book for the chemistry between Lois and Ralph.
202ealaindraoi
I'm new here (to this group, not to LT or SK!) does this mean that I post the next quote?
204ealaindraoi
Ok. (and thanks for the welcome!)
As I'm from Maine, I thought I might post the only near mention by Mr King of my small town. (it's a near mention, because it's the Western version) For anyone rushing for Google maps, it's about halfway between Castle Rock and Derry. (heh heh heh!)
On another occasion, a small press in West Minot agreed to publish a book of his poems (this had been in early 19-- and was, in fact, the last book of poems --- had published), and offered half a cord of wood as an advance, --- took it.
Let's see if hints are necessary.....

205klarsenmd
I think that might be Lisey's Story.
206ealaindraoi
No, not Lisey's Story - Scott was an award winning writer, but not a poet to the best of my recollection.
207jseger9000
Is it The Colorado Kid?
208Booksloth
I don't know why I always come up with this one - it's not as if it's the only King book I ever read! Still, maybe if I keep going I'll eventually be right? The Dark Half?
209ealaindraoi
Nope, not Colorado Kid or The Dark Half.
211QueenOfDenmark
Tommyknockers? Gard was a poet in that and he was successful early, until his drinking took hold of him.
212jseger9000
Oh yeah! I forgot all about him! I hope you got it Jody!
213ealaindraoi
Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner! Congrats Jodyreadseverything! It was pretty obscure as the only hints was that it was a poet, who would trade a half cord of wood for a book advance, but you got it!
214klarsenmd
Oh I'm so glad someone finally did Tommyknockers. coan't wait to hear what you've got Jody!
215QueenOfDenmark
Thanks. Tommyknockers is one of my most reread of his books and Gard is one of my favourite characters.
Here's my line:
He drew the revolver from its holster and pointed it at her feet. She became very still, and the flush evaporated from her face. Her eyes changed, and she looked very different, somehow real for the first time. Something had entered her world that she could not, at least in her own mind, manipulate to her advantage. A gun.

217ealaindraoi
That's The Stand - when Nick and Tom meet that girl...Julie, I think her name was.
219QueenOfDenmark
ealaindraoi is right, to the exact bit of the book. I love that bit, she's so horrible and she deserved the scare.
221ealaindraoi
The Stand is my favorite book. I was thinking of Roland with the gun/holster, but couldn't think of a single time he threatened a manipulative female. (characters in The Dark Tower opus seem to me, to be really black or white, totally bad or totally good.)
My kinda scary quote:
"The world is a worst-case scenario and I'm afraid all you sense is true," said the buzzing wasp-voice. Its claws raked slowly down the side of its head, goring through its insect flesh and revealing the shining bone beneath. "The skin of the world is woven of stingers, a fact you have now learned for yourself. Beneath there is nothing but bone and the God we share. This is persuasive, do you agree?"

Is this one of the visions the Girl has from The Girl who Loved Tom Gordon?
224ealaindraoi
It is indeed, Mister E. One of the three robed figures from TGWLTG.
Wow, you guys are GOOD! :)

225AaronWTimm
OOh, so I guess its my turn. THis might to easy, but its one of my all time favorite lines.
-"The next time she spoke to me, I don't think she knew who she was talking to, or where she was. The next time she spoke to me, she was dying."
I added the quotes.

226ealaindraoi
Ok, I'm not as sure of this one as I was the others, but my best guess is Bag of Bones when Mattie has been shot.
227AaronWTimm
Wow, that was easy! Exactly right ealaindraoi.
228TheBentley
God, that's a great quote. Even out of context it gives me chills.
229ealaindraoi
Hopefully this one is more difficult, but not impossible.....
"None of it was my fault!" she screamed at the woman with the broken arm. "None of it was my fault; they brought it on themselves and I won't take the blame, and I won't kill myself! Do you hear me! Do you?"

I don't recognise the exact quote but that voice sounds a lot like poor Charlie from Firestarter.
ETA - In fact, the more I think about it the more I think I DO recognise the quote and I'm sure it's her. You're going to tell me I'm wrong now, aren't you?

232ealaindraoi
No, Booksloth - I'm going to tell you that you are completely right! It IS Charlie after she rains fire on The Complex.
Wow, I thought that one was tough - what was that, 12 minutes!?

Grrrrr - just typed my message to see it disappear for no good reason. Anyway (childishly excited grin) here's mine, from one of my favourites:
"In July the mercury would go ten degrees higher. Eighty. Just the right temperature to sit in the backyard under an elm tree eating a chicken salad on lettuce. Eighty. Just the ticket for belly-flopping into the nearest piece of the Royal River, oh Jesus, wouldn't that feel good."

oooooh, a hard one.
My guess is The Body from Different Seasons. (and I can't tell you where, it just sounds like it.)

235jseger9000
I was gonna guess The Body myself, but thought it didn't sound like a quote from a kid. If you get it right I'm gonna feel so dumb!
236ealaindraoi
Ah, but The Body is actually from an adult looking back on being a kid. It's got that memorable line (paraphasing here) about never having friends like he did when he was 13. Kids don't talk about how great their friends are either. ;)
237angelikat
That kind of sounds like Salem's Lot, when Ben is reminiscing about his childhood in the Lot.
239ealaindraoi
Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redepemption - when they're tarring the roof and drinking beers. (I'm just so sure it's Different Seasons, probably all wet!)
240beckylynn
I'm goin with ealaindraio, I think it's from when they were talking about the brick wall with the box in it...
But I'll make my own guess.......The Secret Window
