Good Morning,
I'm curious what is the 'rule' or best practice for dormant groups? Are they ever removed or deleted? Thank you!

Best practice is just to ignore them. As they are no longer active, they have nothing to do with you. But they are there for reference purposes.

As long as they are still dormant, it is possible to revive them by posting in existing threads or opening a new one. After a while, they become archived, at which point you can no longer post

One of mine- turned dormant in less than 12 months. I was able to revive- but, if I need to be aware that it is sooner than 12 months- I would appreciate that. I go in every January for sure to enter new award winners; if I need to be certain to check more frequently, I can.

>6 EGBERTINA: Tim first introduced the concept of Dormant groups back in 2010 -- 12 months with no new posts makes the group dormant:
https://www.librarything.com/topic/80873
He started to address dead groups in 2020 with the concept of archived groups:
https://www.librarything.com/topic/325036
But there was a major (and I do mean MAJOR) pushback on his concept of when a group should be archived.
So Tim let it sit on the back burner and returned to the Archiving concept in late 2025:

I think it dropped to 9 months instead of 12 to go dormant now (I tuned out the thread from too much too fast) but archived I think takes 5 years to happen.
