Hello new member. This particular discussion group, Site Talk, pertains to "meta" topics about the LibraryThing web site itself. For example, if you are having a problem using the web site this is one of the places to ask about it.

To discuss books or literary topics, you might try clicking the "Groups" tab at the top of your screen. That will provide a brief list of the most popular groups, and the list can be expanded to show all groups (of which there are many!).

Good job, Carny.

"Carny"? Aargh, I have tasted my own medicine, and it is bitter!
But thanks!

>1 rbarnes793023: I'll second Carny's "hello" and fine tune their suggestion -

A good place to start might be a group that is a "Catch-all for book-related conversations", i.e. Book Talk:
http://www.librarything.com/groups/booktalk

**PortiaLong sticks tongue out at "Carny"**-- if Tim says that's your nickname I guess your stuck with it Carnophile...**grin**

That's it, Portia. In true carny style I'm coming to your house... and I'm going to make you play the shell game and the ring toss. They're rigged, bwa ha ha!

Come on over Carny - as long as one of the prizes is an oversized stuffed bobcat! (The ring toss is for suckers but I've got a line on that shell game!)

Only on condition that you catalogue it if you win it.

As long as lorax doesn't find it, I should be okay.

rbarnes, welcome. You see how things work here? You asked one question and got two answers. Message #3 is from the site founder, majority owner, lead developer/delegator and writer of the world's shortest review. Where else would you get that attention?

It went downhill from there, but enjoy the fun anyway.

I wouldn't say it went downhill - just sorta drifted sideways. Happens a lot.

Welcome rbarnes. Have fun.

Drifted sideways? It skidded that badly it left rubber on the information superhighway! :)

Now I'm doing it!

We're trying to make things hospitable for the new folks and the first thing they get is a bunch of in-jokes and massive topic drift.

Speaking of gay marriage the economy Angelina Jolie ...

PS: "Bobcat"?

Is it just me or do other people want to see Carny and Spaldo in a cage fight?

Hey, I'm all about the love!

Unless the winner gets to kill and eat the loser, to make it interesting.

Not sure if it is one of those recurring floating jokes... and a little afraid to ask.

goes off to bookmark the latest Tim in-joke ("two beers") for future generations

Thanks, MrA.

Off to hunt down two beers. (I'm working on #1 as I type.)

Can I catalogue my stuffed platypus? ;-)

23SylviaC
May 25, 2009, 10:20 pm

Can it read?

24justjim
May 25, 2009, 10:27 pm

Two years ago I won a trophy (at an international darts tournament) which consisted, in part, of a stuffed kiwi and a kiwi egg! It actually had its own travel papers because all species of kiwis are endangered.

It was a perpetual trophy so I had to give it back a year later.

Therefore I catalogued it in my "Read but not owned" collection!

25PhaedraB
May 25, 2009, 10:31 pm

Don't tell lorax :-)

26Suncat
May 26, 2009, 9:59 am

Did you catalog the travel papers instead of the kiwi itself?

27lorax
May 26, 2009, 1:20 pm

See, this is clearly just a misplaced thread, and a case where nobody would argue with Tim's "assume good faith" ruling.

If I catalog my kiwi fruit, will it be okay? What if I call them Chinese gooseberries?

> 27, Uh, no this is clearly book related canned meat, but on the bright side, see how easy it was to be nice, and have fun at the same time. :)
