My husband has called me "Boobalack" for years. He claimed it was from an old country song about a tiny little bird. His brother said it was true, but I thought he was just backing up my husband. Lo and behold, several years ago, I finally found the song. It is spelled "Boobilak" and is by Tommy Collins. It is the silliest most hill-billy song I believe I've ever heard. To make matters worse, the little bird is a horny little boy bird, looking for a "femme." To give him credit, though, he's also building a nest and planning to settle down with his conquest. Can marriage and babies be far behind?

I wanted BookDiva, but it was already in use. When I was young, I used to think if I ever had a company (or a book store!) I would name it Merry Mary's.

Well, we have books in virtually every room of our house.

The "downstairs" books are the ones that MrsHouseLibrary feels will give people a good sense of who we are. There's that token Joy of Cooking in the Kitchen. We never use it...

Upstairs, all of the books are sorted according to Dewey. A major section (n01 through n99) reside in a single room, but there might be multiple major sections in a single room.

Very few of the 'childrens literature' books have been cataloged. They're all together in one bookcase, and not in any particular order. That's my next project.

I am named after a figment of my horse's imagination. (I have a very spooky part-bred Arabian mare who refuses to walk through puddles because she believes they may be inhabited by sharks).

"over dose of books" - "skoobdo". (acronym) - but backwards

It was mistaken for "scooby doo" for a TV cartoon series.

(Too many books to read, but very little time for reading )

My name is derived from the roman numeral for 1000 (M), the currency of South Africa (the rand), and my favourite wankel rotary engine (twin-turbocharged Mazda 13B-REW). Meaning, of course, that I would pay a thousand rand for one of these engines. Simple.

Some people have pointed out that it also looks like a name, but that's sheer coincidence.

Mr.Durick, regarding your post #16, i shall take that as the compliment that it was obviously intended to be - implying that i am unique and innovative. And travel very rapidly in small circles. You sir, i also consider to be a prime Wankel.

LOL@#11.

My last name starts with W and my first name is Esther. I took the H out because on the site where I first used that name westher was already taken. Actually, that name was also already taken on LT, by someone with the same motivation for the name and a pretty similar taste in books.

24theprezz
Sep 24, 2009, 6:00 pm

My screen name simply reflects my desire to take over the world one day! ;)

I've actually been using theprezz or its variants as an online screen name for over 12 years (which is a fairly respectable length of time in Internet terms, though nothing compared to old-timers from BBS days.) When I was in high school I was so interested in politics that my friends jokingly started calling me Mr. President every time they saw me. One of those friends actually had the internet at home, and when our school library finally got a computer with a dial up connection he introduced me to the web and helped me get Hotmail and Geocities accounts (back when both those companies were still independent.) Since I was using Geocities to create what was essentially a political blog (though the term "blog" hadn't yet been coined) and my friend liked to call me Mr. President, "theprezz" was an obvious choice. (I went with the double z because theprez was already taken!)

My mother was French and we decided on this name for our sailboat when I was in high school (a lot less letters to paint than Mademoiselle). It has yet to be already claimed as a screen name.

In the graphical chat world that I hang out in, a "rastahat" came out for sale, and I loved it because it actually fit decently on the frog head that I wear. (You can see a pic on my profile.) So, rastaphrog became one of my "backup" names when I can't get Piemur.

Thank you, Boobalack. It's been 2 years now and though I do miss Myrtle, she was quite old (17) and not well. Willie is 17 himself now, but he still runs around and plays the way a cat of 2 years does. I just wish he didn't hate other cats (and all other living things) the way he does because then I would add another cat to the household.
O.K. - 'nuff of that. On to someone else and the subject at hand.

I'm in the habit of choosing female names from Bruce Springsteen songs to name things around the house -- my iBook is Rosalita, my external hard drive is Kitty, my iPod is Wendy, my car is Leah. I always wanted to be in a Springsteen song, but he hasn't yet written his opus Julia, so I make do.

First, Esta...I'd love to meet you someday! My parents were born in the 1930's and neither one of them is computer savy. You must be one hip, cool person!
Second...my screenname...well, there's sunshine, moonshine, starshine...why not pieshine? Pie is just plain good and wonderful. What was the movie w/ John Travolta playing an angel? Didn't he like pie? I also like the little nursery rhyme about "Simple Simon met a pieman going to the fair." You don't run into 'piemen' these days do you? Were there actually "piemen" at fairs long ago? Would we have to call them 'piepeople' today? Who knows!

45summersrun
Oct 15, 2009, 2:39 pm

Growing up rural in Pennsylvania, we boys spent hours, days in the company of "runs." We dammed them and sent a flotilla of various craft made of leaves, wood (anything that would float) coursing over the falls we engineered. Back there, runs and "brooks" fed the larger "cricks". The term "creeks" was considered uppity. So when I developed my novel about a Pennsy boyhood, "Summers Run" seemed a natural title.

55alotosuga
Oct 29, 2009, 6:57 pm

Pieshine is great, I too derived my screen name from the movie 'Michael'. Michael (John Travolta) is sitting at the table spooning sugar into his bowl, saying something like "you just can't get enough sugar". I take that to mean people just can't get enough sweetness in their lives. I also like your screenname, because at times, I'll sing 'When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie that's amore'.

56littleshell
Oct 30, 2009, 7:35 pm

>53 suitable1:, I was thinking that too!

I am so glad someone started this topic. I am always wondering about user names! (MrAndrew had me puzzled for days--not. The real puzzle is that this "straightforward and boring" name conceals an often mischievous poster, LOL.)

My nieces and nephews call me Aunt Shell, and I am 4'10". So, I use littleshell410 when I need numbers and just littleshell otherwise.

57PortiaLong
Edited: Oct 30, 2009, 11:28 pm

***PortiaLong scans to see if MrAndrew has yet infiltrated this thread***...

I have a few internet names that mix an match depending on the type of site that I am on. It amuses me to maintain a sort of continuity.

PortiaLong is "name mash" of my usual internet nom-de-plume and my (second to last) dog's name (the whole of which was inspired by a bard and a beer and my favorite author) - it has the advantage of sounding, well, legitimate.

MrAndrew "got" the Shakespearian reference for the first (dog's) name; and, as per the comment I left for him ..."The last name of my nom de plume ... actually refers to a prominent Family Name found in a set of works by an author we share..."

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Our last dog (and our current dog, and all future dogs) was a mutt of uncertain heritage. She spent several days at our house, nameless, as we contemplated. Some portion of her heritage was obviously Rott-y, given her coloring. We decided that if anyone asked her breed she was a "Black-and-Tan" hound. Our favorite black-and-tan (beer) at the time was the Yuengling - which was a half-and-half Porter and Lager. I favored "lit'ry" names so the Porter part migrated to "Portia" (from the Merchant of Venice in case you missed it)...and so I have a first name.

58pinkozcat
Oct 30, 2009, 11:31 pm

I am pinkozcat all over the internet.

My first computer was called minerva and when I connectd to the internet I used that name which inevitably got shortened to minnie.

On the Starship Titanic help board we used to play a type of theatre games and I was the pink panther, hence the 'cat'. There is a song about Lily the Pink so I morphed into minnie the pink (cat).

To preserve my national status I added the oz bit and became 'pink oz cat'. I still sometimes sign my emails 'minnie the pink ozcat'.

59ejj1955
Oct 31, 2009, 1:35 am

I love the great stories; my user name belongs to the boring camp: my initials and year of birth.

I sometimes use LittleDoe, a nickname I only recently found out was used of me as a newborn, when I arrived on the first day of hunting season.

For a while I used WebsterHack, until I realized people thought I was an internet hacker, not a lexicographer who sometimes worked on inferior dictionaries simply for the filthy lucre. On one particularly bad one, I refused to have my real name listed as staff and used "Holly Martins" instead (movie reference!).

60Vanye
Oct 31, 2009, 2:28 am

Mine is an elvish version of my real name, Bonnie & it was generated by one of those Tolkien related name generators online. I have recently added a last name-Starlighter which is the name of the apartment complex where i live.
The first website i joined was Tolkien'sRing which was formed before the Lord of the Rings movies came out & the original members were alumni of Barnes & Noble University online course on the LOTR. When they stopped offering the course many of us wished to continue to stay in touch online as well as to continue discussing our favorite author; we all came up w/Tolikienesque names during the course & have kept them ever since. 8^)

61HannaRose
Oct 31, 2009, 2:40 am

My name is Hanna, and my middle name is Rose. But because of a lot of reasons best not discussed here, my mother and I have decided to change my name. In doing so, we are combining my first and middle names, because 1/2 of the people I know call me "HannaRose" instead of just Hanna. So I put that as my LT screen name. Boy, I'm sure creative ;)
