This book is a combination of short stories and essays some of which Spider wrote for the Globe and Mail and some which were commissioned by and read aloud by the CBC so you can't get much more Canadian than that.
I've been a Spider Robinson fan for a long time and I often thought that his style was similar to Robert Heinlein so it was interesting to read the chapter called Mentors because he credits Heinlein with leading him into this profession. In fact, Heinlein's Rocket Ship Galileo was the first book Spider took out of the library when he was 6 years old (precocious wasn't he). For Spider fans there are lots more facts about his life and writing. My favourite story was Distractions which is about two petty thieves breaking in to a show more house in Point Grey in Vancouver (where Spider lives in real life). It has an ending which is laugh out loud funny. show less

As an anthology, some good, some better, but overall very good and fun.
Not nearly as good as the first Chicks in Chainmail anthology. In this one Esther Friesner decided to not use S&S type stories for most of them--I don't know even know why a couple of the stories were even included.

(show all)his humble editor, as it must go to all humble editors (the three of us get together for drinks sometimes down at Binky's Oyster Bar) that there is room in a really spiffy Dedication for more than one round of thanks and acknowledgement. Therefore, in this late hour of soft purple twilight and not enough gin, I would like to append the following tribute to a woman who is perhaps this work's chief Muse and guiding light, whether she likes it or not.
