As were the previous volumes that I'd read, "The Mammoth Book of Best New Horror, Vol. 16" was another engaging read. It contains an excellent sampling of the genre, and my favorites include the poignant "The Mutable Borders of Love" by Leslie What; "Israbel" by Tanith Lee; "The Devil of Delery Street" by Poppy Z. Brite; "Stone Animals" by Kelly Link; the beautiful "My Death" by Lisa Tuttle; and topping my list are the brilliant "Forbidden Brides of the Faceless Slaves in the Nameless House of the Night of Dread Desire" and "The Problem of Susan," both by Neil Gaiman. I also loved how the anthology is bookended by Gaiman's two contributions.
