Wow! Powerful novel about extreme human emotions within both regular social environments and in extreme environments, i.e. high-up in a mountain's thin air.

Alice Loudon is not content with her routine life and is easily seduced by a handsome stranger. They marry quickly, and while having great sex her life is deteriorating and disconnecting from reality.

Fortunately as a scientist Alice is naturally curious and reads and learns all she can about Adam, his friends and clients and finally connects the dots to find the truth.

Compelling read.
This is a wild psychological thriller. Alice has her mundane life with her normal boyfriend. Til the day that she sees the blue eyed dark handsome Adam. You can literally feel the sparks fly as their gaze leads them to a wild afternoon.

Alice abandons her normal life and begins a lustful, chaotic ride with Adam. The author eludes to a BDSM relationship without giving details. Alice begins to question her sanity only to reveal a dark discovery.
This is a powerful thriller, a novel of psychosexual obsession that holds the reader in its grip from beginning to end. I had low expectations of the book, but must rank it as one of the best of its kind that I've read in years. Although termed a "page - turner" by other reviewers, the reader may find it too intense to read more than a few chapters at a single sitting.
This was revoltingly gross. One of those "My husband was a rapist and a murderer but I still love him" stories, complete with sexual violence and controlling behaviour. I have to say I don't understand the appeal of these writers and I won't be reading any more of their books to find out.
I think this book should be classified as 'chic-lit/thriller'. Maybe even erotic/chic-lit/thriller! I do enjoy a good thriller but this book felt as though it were trying to cover too many genres. I know it can be done but in this case it felt forced. If those are your favorite genres though then this may be the book for you. :)

Alice is a woman who has it all, good job, relationship...

She leaves everything behind to run off with her new boyfriend, even though she doesn't know anything about him. He soon turns violent and obsessive. This seems the moment for Alice to run away again, but she doesn't.

It's called a novel of obsession, and that's certainly what it was. That part definitely was interesting, but Alice's stupid decisions annoyed me. I've heard the stories so I know things like this actually happen, but I can't see why she stays there. The writing as always was nice to read, this is one of Nicci French's books I liked better.

I once watched the first few minutes of the movie they made from this book, but it was plain horrible! Couldn't show more stand to watch it. show less
My favourite Nicci French book. Alice meets and falls in love with the mysterious Adam Tallis, but there is more to this man than meets the eye. Soon everything Alice knows and loves is threatened by her new lover, and as she attempts to find out more about his past, she uncovers some disturbing facts.

This book is truly deserving of the description 'page turner'. It held me in suspense to the end, and is one of the best in it's genre that I have ever read.

One word of warning - do not bother with the movie. It is virtually unrecognisable from the book, and is pretty dire.
