Each year, the Association for Asian American Studies (AAAS) recognizes authors of scholarly and creative books that make significant contributions to the field of Asian American Studies. Our field thrives on deep research, moving stories and language, rigorous theory and methodologies, and critical questioning of culture and society. The nomination period is a time to recognize the remarkable work being done in the field, while the awards draw attention to outstanding research and/or imaginative creation.

Minor changes from original awards list made to facilitate cross-year comparison and lists. For example:

  • As of 2023, Winners are labeled "Outstanding Achievement"; I have left it at Winner to indicate similarity to previous years.
  • Category names changed over time. When the change indicates a shift in thinking about a field, I've changed it, otherwise I've kept it consistent. For example, Interdisciplinary/Multidisciplinary and Multidiscplinary/Interdisciplinary was condensed to one, but Interdisciplinary/Media Studies is kept distinct.
