Those who are disagree with the Ministry’s version of the truth are vilified such as Harry Potter and Albus Dumbledore. News to discredit both is ubiquitous. Even as Potter is put to trial due to using magic to fight of dementors, events are set up to prevent Potter from receiving help. Fortunately, Potter has allies in the Order of the Phoenix who come to his aid. Order of the Phoenix is a secret society which has few members but are tasked with fighting Voldemort and his Death Eaters. Things at Hogwarts are more difficult than previous years. Besides being the 5th year when the students take O.W.L. exams which determine their future careers, many of the school believe the news about Harry Potters’ lies. Made even worse with their new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher who reports directly to the Ministry. The miseries of the year are alleviated only with a secret club formed to practice magic which Harry Potter teaches. The Order of the Phoenix and those who believe that the Dark Lord has returned need find ways to prevent Voldemort from achieving his aim which seems to be a weapon he did not possess the last time he was around. There is a bit of a disconnect between the previous books in the series and this one which has to do with Harry Potter. For some reason, Harry’s personality is drastically different. Not that some change due to previous books events should not have occurred, but the change is too drastic as to be meant for drama rather than narrative. There is a door at the end of a silent corridor. And it's haunting Harry Potter's dreams. Why else would he be waking in the middle of the night, screaming in terror? It's not just the upcoming O.W.L. exams; a new teacher with a personality like poisoned honey; a venomous, disgruntled house-elf; or even the growing threat of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. Now Harry Potter is faced with the unreliability of the very government of the magical world and the impotence of the authorities at Hogwarts. Despite this (or perhaps because of it), he finds depth and strength in his friends, beyond what even he knew; boundless loyalty; and unbearable sacrifice.
The family romance is a latency-period fantasy, belonging to the drowsy years between 7 and adolescence. In ''Order of the Phoenix,'' Harry, now 15, is meant to be adolescent. He spends a lot of the book becoming excessively angry with his protectors and tormentors alike. He discovers that his late (and ''real'') father was not a perfect magical role model, but someone who went in for fits of nasty playground bullying. He also discovers that his mind is linked to the evil Lord Voldemort, thereby making him responsible in some measure for acts of violence his nemesis commits... Ms. Rowling's magic world has no place for the numinous. It is written for people whose imaginative lives are confined to TV cartoons, and the exaggerated (more exciting, not threatening) mirror-worlds of soaps, reality TV and celebrity gossip. Its values, and everything in it, are, as Gatsby said of his own world when the light had gone out of his dream, ''only personal.'' Nobody is trying to save or destroy anything beyond Harry Potter and his friends and family.
