The Humanistic Tradition, Book 6: Modernism, Postmodernism, and the Global Perspective by Gloria K. Fiero
Really enjoyed using this series for my 20th century art course this semester. Not such a fan of certain movements of the 1900s but the format of the book is great, incorporating examples from literature, dance, and music with the visual arts.
Teaching a two part course and so far have only read chapters 1-7. I really like this textbook. It ties in great literature and art but also is a bit lacking on the details of certain events. I would have liked to see more content on Byzantine art and maybe more about developments in the east. But Fiero does a decent job.
The Humanistic Tradition Book 5: Romanticism, Realism, and the Nineteenth-Century World by Gloria K. Fiero
This is just a brilliant book for the humanities, incorporating art, literature, music, dance . . . I read it for art history and am about to move onto the next in the series. I want to read all the ones previous to this, too. Just a marvelous overview, never boring - not too much information but also not so little that I feel undereducated for confused.
