Marvellously vivid account of the adventures of a young man in Japan; while much of it is devoted to his exploration of the bar scene (the "water trade" of the title),
it also includes a thoughtful account of calligraphy and other aspects of Japanese culture.

This is the Abacus 1996 edition I have. Enjoyed this very much. Interesting insights into Japanese culture and language.
Mr Morley moves to Japan infatuated by the idea of Japan. Gradually learns the ins and outs of dally life and a bit about 'love' and how people in Japan are enmeshed in society.
