This was the book that was supposed to guide the Woodstock-nation of hippies in the late 60's into the promised land of politically conscious and active Yippies of the 70's, and the resultant revolution. Instead, history shows us we got disco music, the Whole Earth Catalog, and the Watergate hearings. This book is energetic, brilliant, inspiring, and finally naive.
Naive? Yes. But also an entertaining history of the youth political movement of the 1960s, and a fun read all round.
I thought this book was idiotic even back in the day -- and I was in the target demographic. There are some great hippie pictures in it, though.
© 3/15/1970. Simon and Schuster. A manual on social activism in the late 1960’s. If you are looking for the mindset of a large number of the social activists of the 1960's and 70's, this is the book. It is part of a fully fleshed-out knowledge of the period.
