I thoroughly enjoyed these reminiscences of Thera Ferre Bjorn. She speaks of her childhood in her native Swedish Lapland more than 50 years ago. Some of their traditions are based on ancient folklore, and others are definitely Christian. Several revolve around intense cleaning of the entire house, as well as many, many hours of baking and cooking. No one worked harder than a Swedish wife and mother! Throughout this volume, what shines from every page is the love and caring that family show more members gave of freely, and not only to their own family, but also to friends and neighbors. And though the lights of Christmas eventually are dimmed and go out each year, as the author states, it will be Christmas all over again. This delightful memoir is filled with the joy - and humor - of the season, and may inspire others to start and continue their own traditions. show less
This unconventionally funny book is filled with rich warm humor, tenderness and love. Mama was Papa's young housekeeper. Papa, Pastor Pontus Franzon, was a handsome preacher in Sweden and all of the young girls including Mama were in love with him. But Papa was not a man to be easily caught. Mama was a young lady of great determination though and she eventually perseveres. Then Mama set about making her dream of having many small Franzons come true as well.

Perhaps the best part of this book show more is Mama's running dialog with God. Mama is certain that God is always on her side, and indeed as the story unfolds it appears that he must have been. This book will make you re-evaluate your own relationship with God. This is a delightful story that will leave you with a smile on your face for some time to come. show less
I love Thyra Bjorn's books, this one is certainly right up there with the best. What dear stories her mother shares in the book about their childhood. Great lessons to those of us striving to be more godly women.
Not my favorite. I thought it was somewhat boring, but it is harmless literature and might be nicer for a young adult or child.
