L'autore immagina di essere un inglese (il maggiore W. Marmaduke Thompson) che riflette sugli usi e costumi dei francesi.
Not for me (at least at this time).
Written in late 50s, a droll collection of stories/commentaries as to a range of day to day circumstances, many of which center on interactions with the narrator's wife Sonia and their children.
examples?
- how it is that whatever queue you get on, it is always the slowest?
- how is it that whenever you are telling of a disaster (car accident or whatever) someone has to come up with their own story that tops your own , even at times interrupting you so you show more cannot not even get to your own punch line?
- how is that you can never take a god photo, even if doing exactly what others insist you do?
I more dipped in and out rather than read as a whole.
There are too many other more alluring books out there to spend any more time on this one for my liking.
But the blurb did say the author was also "the creator of the imperishable Major Thompson" (imperishable?...I do hope they have the right translaation (from the French) there) of which I have a few examples in Penguin numbered, so I try them to see if they travel better.
