I read this booklet on November 3, 2011.

This was a very enjoyable short read. It is mainly a photo album with limited text. It provides a very good, but short, description of the development of these historically noteworthy fighters. It focuses mainly on the Polikarpov I-5, I-15 and I-16 aircraft. The photos are very comprehensive. Their quality, considering the time frame, is good to very good.

Side note: On the top right of page 2 is a Tupolev TB 3 (ANT 6) bomber, showing the show more 'Svjeno-Aviamatka' system. It is in flight with an I-5 on top of each wing, an I-16 under each wing and a I-Z (Grigorovich I-Zet) being released (?) from beneath the fuselage. When it took off it was carrying 5 fighters. AWESOME!!! Talk about the German Mistel configuartion, the British Short Mayo Composite and the U.S. FICON project. I hope to find more data on this Russian configuration. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Correction - upon further research, the fuselage aircraft was not part of the takeoff. It hooked up later, which is what the photograph is showing. show less
For decades 'the' definitive standard reference work on the Focke-Wulf 190. It remains the core source of material for all subsequent books on the subject irrespective of whether it is acknowledged by their authors. An invaluable reference book in the library of any WW2 aviation history enthusiast or aircraft modeler.
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 Würger (English: Shrike) is a German single-seat, single-engine fighter aircraft designed by Kurt Tank in the late 1930s and widely used during World War show more II. Along with its well-known counterpart, the Messerschmitt Bf 109, the Fw 190 became the backbone of the Luftwaffe's Jagdwaffe (Fighter Force). The twin-row BMW 801 radial engine that powered most operational versions enabled the Fw 190 to lift larger loads than the Bf 109, allowing its use as a day fighter, fighter-bomber, ground-attack aircraft and, to a lesser degree, night fighter. show less
This late WWII aircraft was the fastest piston engine fighter of the war.
Heinz Nowarra's book "DORNIER DO 335 "Pfeil"" is about the same length, width and weight as a Squadron/Signal publication but that is as far as the resemblence goes. It consists of little more than a number of black & white photos of the DO 335 with a few line drawings and on cutaway diagram that must have been greatly reduced from a larger image because it is hard to decipher. There is a small amount of commentary but show more no camouflage & insiginia guides found in the Squadron/Signal books. show less
Excellent history of a famous plane. Picked this up at a church sale, oddly, and enjoyed it.
