i thought this book might be the symbolism of flowers or dogs but it was mostly gods and saints. the explanations were boring but the art was interesting and the descriptions good.

A good guide for non-experts who want to start understanding what is going on in the art they see. Includes usefully cross-referencing. Would do well with some reproductions on representative art, though the simplified line drawings are some help
More like an encyclopedia than a dictionary, but not enough illustrations.
