Animal Homes and Societies has engaging photographs and interesting facts about various types of animals and how and with who they live. The book is broken down into four major sections: Living Alone, discussing animals that live alone (tigers, orangutans, cobras, and bowerbirds); Close Families, discussing animals that live with a nuclear family (some monkeys, dung beetles, beavers, and birds of prey); Extended Families, discussing animals that stay with their parents after they have had show more offspring of their own (lions, elephants, jays, and honeybees); and Large Groups, discussing animals in which live together, but are not all from the same family (baboons, man-of-war, bats, dolphins, fish schools, and various types of birds, including penguins). While some of the text, I found a bit boring, the pictures are beautiful and would certainly draw a reader in. I also liked that within each section, examples were given of all sorts of species, ie. reptiles, mammals, birds, fish, etc. show less
