In the first book we saw Riley's abilities growing now her powers have manifested to psychic abilities. She can not only see ghosts but she has prophetic dreams and dreams of the past, she can also tap into peoples minds, but she's too stressed to get her abilities working properly sometimes.

Riley is feeling defeated, she's freaked out by Laria's haunting's and being brave is the last thing on her mind. She continues to deal by cutting, she made promises to not cut but every-time things get show more difficult she craves the release cutting brings. J.A. Templeton continues to handle this subject with respect and realness.

Laria is trying to come between Riley and her relationships by possessing her friends and family. Riley is afraid for everyone and continues to feel guilty. With the support of her friends, Riley feels stronger and more determined to defeat Laria and once and for all be rid of her.

The creepy factor was turned up trifold in this conclusion of the series. The terror Laria and her dark coven put Riley and her friends through was like hell on earth for them. I felt bad for the abuse Riley had to suffer and hoped she would figure something out to remove Laria and the others from her life. But sometimes I wished she would also try to stop Laria from getting one over on her so many times, to get determined to free herself from the pain and fear. It was obvious that Laria was trying to weaken her so she could do more damage to her, she was so scared she opened the door for more torture from the evil witches. Things had to go from bad to worse before Riley and her very supportive and understanding friends were able to go up against Laria and her coven.

What a riveting series this turned out to be, the ghosts genre is quickly becoming one of my favorites because of good ghost stories like this one. We also learned more about Kade's and Riley's destined love for each other. And why Laria is so hell bent on ruing Riley's life. It was a very full circle conclusion to their story indeed.

The Deepest Cut is the story of Riley, a teenage girl who sees ghosts. In an effort to make a fresh start after her mother's death, Riley's father moves her, and her brother, Shane to live in a centuries old inn in Scotland. As it happens, the inn Riley's family occupies and the castle next door are haunted, one of the ghosts is a nineteen-year-old Ian MacKinnon, breathtakingly handsome, who was murdered over two hundred years prior.

Hello? The Deepest Cut had me at girl who sees ghosts, show more castles, Scotland, and mostly... hot ghostly guy! Seriously, what's not to love.

Riley was almost the perfect character. I really just want to give the girl a hug. She's a little broken, due to the death of her mother. She's a genuinely good person who cares about her family. She is not whiny or irritating. But... she is a cutter, using a tiny razor blade to release the pain she struggles to keep inside. Riley fights a constant battle to stop the self-abuse, but when she is overwhelmed, it's always there as a temptation. She compares herself to an alcoholic, wondering if the urge to hurt cut herself will ever completely go away.

Upon arrival in her new home, Riley sees Ian, a ghost. A gorgeous ghost. She struggles to ignore him, but once Ian realized she can see him, he won't be avoided. Ian, with his old-fashioned manners and kind nature, is instantly lovable. Murdered and cursed to an Earthbound afterlife by a jealous servant, Ian has been alone for over two hundred years.

The relationship between Ian and Riley is nicely paced. They don't instantly fall impossibly in love. They form a trusting friendship that steadily builds into something more. Riley, in a refreshingly unselfish decision, is determined to see Ian find peace, willing to help him break his curse even if it means losing him forever.

The Deepest Cut does have some scary, hair-raising bits involving ghost Laria, the girl who murdered Ian. Laria, a truly frightening character, is determined to keep Ian from a peaceful afterlife and will do anything to keep him from moving on, including murdering again.

The Deepest Cut is a book that I found myself truly enjoying. But oh, what an ending. I was left completely hanging on, wondering what the heck was going on. Count me in for book two!

"All those things scared me, but what frightened me more than anything was the thought that ghosts
could tap into our thoughts and yes, they could also see us naked.
Oh. My. God.
Ian could see me naked.
And he could read my mind, too."

Forbidden takes place in England in 1835. Vaughn, the Viscount of Rothmere, comes home to fight his father for his inheritance left to him by his mother. Here he meets Elisa, whom his father has convinced to marry him in exchange for helping her find her son.

Poor Elisa has been ostracized from society because of a bunch of lies. Her son has been stolen from her and she thinks Rufus, the Marquis of Fairleigh, can help her.Vaughn and Elisa are helplessly attracted to each other but are show more embroiled in a web of lies and deceit.

I love this time period despite all the rules and restrictions of society. The glamour of the balls and house parties draw me in every time. Still, women are confined in a man's world and restricted by their rules. However, this book had something that most historical romance novels do not. A man willing to stand up to society and tell them they are wrong. A man willing to throw their own indiscretions in their faces publicly. Now that is love. A man willing to risk everything including being ostracized from society for the woman he loves. Yes, I am a romantic at heart and this book fed the romantic part of my soul. This book was worth the read and I am looking forward to the next book in the Scandalous Sirens series.

The Deepest Cut was a compelling, haunting, romantic tale. The Scottish country setting gave it a beautiful atmosphere, with castles, creepy ancient cemeteries, and lovely accents to put to the voices of Riley's new friends! Riley is a good person, struggling with much more emotionally than the normal teen. She seems to have a pretty solid handle on her ability to see ghosts, but it's the secret guilt she feels about her mother's death that is eating her up inside. In some ways, I think she show more was okay with seeing ghosts because of her constant hope that she would someday be able to see her mother again and apologize. Until then, her pain is so immense, she has resorted to cutting as a release. I love the relationship between Riley and her brother, Shane. Despite being really close in the past, they had grown further and further apart while they both deal with their mother's death in different ways. It started out rocky and grew into something really great---I loved Shane's character and hope we get to know him more in the future!

There are some intensely spine-tingling moments throughout this story! The dark spirit, Laria, is as evil as they come. The extent of the sinister things she was involved with in life were only vaguely explained, so I hope to read more about that in the rest of the series. I'd also be interested to learn a little more about the MacKinnon family history, so I hope that is to come. Ian MacKinnon was a great love interest! A little mysterious, very gentle and compassionate, but masculine in all the right ways! The attraction was instant but the love was not, which I appreciated. Though sometimes I have a hard time wrapping my brain around a ghost being able to stand before you as real and corporeal as any living being, I was able to overcome that and just enjoy the sweet romance that developed between Riley and Ian. After all, what is a good love story without the gentle touches on the face, the coy hand-holding, the nuzzles into the neck. :) Plus the author did a good job of explaining the power of ghosts, so I was satisfied!

The plot was intriguing, and the things that I suspected would turn out predictable ended up taking me completely by surprise! Despite a few small editing and grammatical errors (which could very well have been fixed since the copy I received!), I definitely enjoyed and recommend The Deepest Cut. I am SO very thankful that the next installment in the story comes out in January 2012. The ending was such an abrupt cliffhanger! It would have been horrible to have to wait much longer than that to find out what is going on!
