This volume served as a guide to the British people in the event of a nuclear attack. While much of the advice would not offer a great deal of protection from a hydrogen-bomb attack, it offered a sense of comfort, that even nuclear war could be managed and prepared for. As a piece of history, it offers insight into the early Cold War from the perspective of a NATO country other than the United States.
