Priced at 6d, this book has the headline 'The Cheapest Cookery Book in the World.' Published in 1907 it is of historical interest with recipes for cleaning and home remedies, as well as cookery. Interesting to see some recipes are still with us (e.g. Shepherd's Pie) whereas others are entirely unknown (e.g. a hollowed out peeled potato filled with minced meat called Scotch Dainty-Bit). The clothes care also tells of another age - how to clean a silk hat, fur, re-curling feathers, etc.
A collection of traditional recipes from the Shipshewana, Indiana community spanning from 1889 to 1989. This collection focuses on family baking recipes, including breakfast items, cookies, cakes, pies, and ice cream. It also includes home remedies for basic health ailments, such as ear aches, and household cleaning products.
Fun to read book. Font is calligraphy. Purchased at The Renaissance Fair near Milwaukee. Maybe one day I'll try a recipe or two.
Interesting colonial recipes, with a book cover photo by yours truly!
