Not actually sure how long it has taken me to read this book - I’d put it aside for long enough that I felt it warranted starting from the beginning. This made the first 3/4 of the book a much faster read than previously.

I found the basic thesis- that Austen is much less a conservative than they are typically portrayed- quite fascinating. I’ve not actually read all that much of Austen’s body of work, which made some of the references some opaque, but overall I don’t think that that show more is a problem.

Definitely one to hang on to and reread at some point, after I have read some more of the books discussed.

As an aside - the book was written while Thatcher was in power in Britain, which gives some interesting tinges to the commentary of morality vs money, and the causes of poverty.
