Life As I Knew It is a wonderful story that brought me both laughter and tears. I was able to identify with multiple parts of the book. It is well written and Randi chose beautiful words wisely. I look forward to reading more from this author. I highly suggest Tell The Wolves I'm Home by Carol Rifka Brunt if you enjoyed this read.
The voice of main character 16 year old Angelina Rossini is strong and convincing in this book. Angelina lives in a small town in Vermont and is the only child of an older doting Italian father and British mother. In the beginning of the book, Angelina’s father has a stroke which leaves him paralyzed in a wheelchair and unable to speak. When he comes home from the hospital, Angelina and her mother must cope with taking care of him. Angelina has several close friends (many of them are gay, show more which seemed a little far-fetched in such a small town). Grades 7 and up. show less
Angelina has always had parents older than everyone else. She has a special relationship with her father and is crushed when he has a stroke that paralyzes him and takes away his speech.
