A thread to tell folks what you aren't reading at the current time.

I am not curently reading Glory Road.

I am currently not reading The Dark is Rising trilogy. Just because I'm waiting for it to come in the mail :-)

Apr 18, 2007, 6:56 pm

Oh, man. I've got a dozen Eve Dallas books sitting waiting, two or three Stephanie Plum books, Rebecca, 1984, a couple of new (to me) Hammond Innes books...

Why am I corresponding in here?!?

How funny! I am not reading trickster's queen! or tailchasers song!

5bazling
Apr 18, 2007, 7:08 pm

I'm not reading the essays assigned for class tomorrow! Or The Picture of Dorian Gray, Salt, or Captain Underpants. Just to name a few.

bazling - We are not reading similar things.

I am not reading the writing assignments I gave to my two history classes concerning WWII. (Yep, I teach math and history.) I am also not reading Citizen Turner.

This thread is hilarious. LOL
Obviously, at this moment, I'm NOT reading Elantris. What's WRONG with me? ;o)

8mrgrooism

I'm not reading Ventriliquism for Dummies.

Wow, check out what comes up for THAT touchstone! NIETZSCHE!!!

10Morphidae
Apr 18, 2007, 8:18 pm

I'm not reading Alaska nor Elantris nor The Golden Torc nor The Renaissance Soul because I'm freaking reading this thread!

11mrgrooism
Apr 18, 2007, 8:20 pm

That's a spurious title I came up with years ago that I know will eventually be a real book. On a whim I put in the touchstones, and that's just what came up! Honest!

See what I mean when I say that I am a weirdness magnet?

12clamairy
Edited: Apr 18, 2007, 8:24 pm

Check out what my touchstone in #9 leads too. I'm genuinely confuzzled.

Just testing to see what strange things happen.

TOO WEIRD!

19mrgrooism
Edited: Apr 18, 2007, 8:56 pm

If you put square brackets around the title of the book, you'll get a link, called a touchstone. I put brackets around words that AREN'T books just to see what comes up! Double brackets around an author's name will do this Stephen King

20clamairy
Apr 18, 2007, 8:55 pm

#17 - Just putting brackets around random word pairs... that's all!

21xicanti
Edited: Apr 18, 2007, 8:58 pm

Pickles on Ice
Pickles of Death
Pickles in Exile
Pickle: The Return (this touchstones as ROTK in traditional Chinese characters, but unfortunately it's just combined with the same book in every other language. Sadness).

I find the word "pickle" entirely too funny.

22mrgrooism
Edited: Apr 18, 2007, 9:09 pm

Pickled Pickle
Pickles In Space
Son Of Pickle
The Pickle Father
Gone With the Pickle
Fall of the House of Pickles

Editing to coax touchstones, come on baby!

Sometimes even with valid touchstones after you post, you have to edit your post by just opening the window, sitting there until the touchstones load, and then posting. I guess mine are just too silly, then.

What did y'll do when I wasn't watching?!?! Eating suspicious mushrooms? Eh.
I guess you didn't, but sometimes threds evolves in fascinating and truly creative ways ;-)

Anyway, back on topic -

Currently I'm very much NOT reading The lost honor of Katharina Blum or The Train Was on Time, both of which I've promised myself to read and which have resided side by side in the bookcase ever since me and my now husband merged libaries some 13 years ago.

31thecynicalromantic
Apr 19, 2007, 11:09 am

I am not reading stuff about Ibsen for my English paper.

I am also not reading Plagues and Peoples for my research paper because I left it in my friend's suite. Oops.

Also, I am not reading Fairest or any of the Colored Fairy Books because they are ALL THE WAY HOME IN NEW JERSEY! *cries* But I should be doing schoolwork anyway instead if reading fairy tales.

I am actually reading random graphic novels of Rising Stars and Transmetropolitan but I'm pretending I'm not. Does that count?

32dressagegrrrl
Apr 19, 2007, 4:19 pm

>#31 You can't pretend to NOT be reading Transmetropolitan. That's one of the best graphic novels ever.

I am not reading The Android's Dream because I am at work. And that is sad.

33Tane
Apr 19, 2007, 4:46 pm

Warren Ellis is great.. I'm currently not reading Transmetropolitan though, 'cos I haven't bought it yet (but it's on the must-by list).

I'm also not reading Children of Hurin though I really want to... but I have a few other things to get through first.

34littlegeek
Apr 19, 2007, 4:49 pm

I'm so not reading Deathly Hallows, although I wish I could be.

35RuneFirestar

I am not reading Fairest although I want to be and I am not reading Eragon although that one is on my to buy list.

I'm with you on that one Littlegeek, all the way. Although, once we have read it, maybe we might just wish that we hadn't... because after that, it's done. finished. over.

37Linkmeister
Apr 19, 2007, 5:20 pm

Tane, that's what we Nero Wolfe fans thought, and then Robert Goldsborough came along and mucked up the franchise.

I doubt that Rowling would allow that, though.

I am not reading Elantris. Too many people said that it was impossible to put down, so I decided I have to wait until mid-May when school is done :(

40littlebookworm
Apr 20, 2007, 3:56 am

I am not reading the books on Russian history for my seminar on Monday (in which I have to lead a discussion ;_;), or London by Edward Rutherfurd (or working on one of my four essays) because I am posting here instead.

38 - I am hoping for exactly the same. I really, really, really hope she does not screw this up. Think of all the pressure she must be feeling, knowing that so many people are waiting anxiously for this book's release!

41clamairy
Apr 20, 2007, 7:37 am

#38 & #40 - LOL!!! I guess I'm less worried about a major screw up and more about a fizzle. I'm not overly concerned though. She proven to me so far that she knows what she's doing.

I am planning on reading with a box of tissue nearby, though. My daughter always gets to read the book first. When she was 9 it took her two weeks to get through Goblet. Two years ago, when she was 13, we picked up Half-Blood Prince at midnight, and she was finished by 2:00 pm the next day. I assume she slept in there for a little while at least. Anyway, I'm rambling, but my point was that I can gauge just how many tissues I'll be needing by her reaction. GoF was only about a 1 tissue book, OotP was 3, and HBP was a 5/6 with a few expletives thrown in. I'm estimating that DH will demand a half a box, though.

I'll miss waiting for the releases as well. I've grown up with Harry! But I'm kind of ready for it to end at the same time. It's been going on for so long...
Well, I am not reading The House of Mirth which I should be studying for an essay test, but I don't really feel like it.
I'll read I don't really like pickles but I used to. Then maybe I'll start I'm craving pasta and I should be doing homework.
Happy reading (or not reading!)

xicanti, you should make it a life goal to visit Pickle Lake someday. (Although sadly the official Pickle Lake website doesn't say why the lake after which the town is named is called Pickle Lake. Is it the colour of pickles? Does it smell of pickles? Is it populated by mutant pickles?)

Anyhow, back to our thread. I am currently not reading Kanji Power...

(edited for missing closing parenthesis. here's another one:)

Apr 23, 2007, 2:23 am

A book I'm not reading is Effi Briest and I should have finished that a week ago.

xicanti, you might be interested in an old Regina Spektor song called "Reading Time With Pickle". It's one of my least favourite songs of her, but it's about pickles and reading so you might like it. :)

I'm not reading Sandkings because I've just finished it. In fact I'm not reading everything in my catalog because I haven't decided what to read next. I have a 0TBR pile, and no bookshop/library vists scheduled. Time for a re-read of something....

#50-55 yep I genuinely had no books to be read. Didn't last long though its still small.
How doe sit happen - don't buy books online, only visit book shops sparingly. read quickly.

I'm not (re-)reading Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy which I should be for the Go review that book group because I started a shiney new Fragile things from the TBR pile, instead. Go Review, is going to increase my TBRness because it will increase my re-reading, not necessarily a bad thing, but it will impact on those new books.

Currently not reading Ah, But Your Land is Beautiful, despite trying to get through it. Also not reading Gawain and the Green Knight since my copy got misplaced somewhere. (Maybe under the bed).

But this list is very long, really. I'm not reading War and Peace, The Notebook, or The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. I'm not reading Hamlet, Silence of the Hams, or Green Eggs and Ham. In fact, at this very moment, the only thing I am reading is this thread.

I'm not reading Mistborn because I can't get all of the posts read! Why do I have to read ALL the posts?

64xicanti
May 1, 2007, 9:39 pm

I, too, am not reading Mistborn. Guy Gavriel Kay distracted me. Damn those series that just suck you in and force you to begin the next one as soon as you've finished the previous volume, regardless of your reading plans!
