March saw us just squeak back on track to reach our goal, but we'll need to do better in the coming month.
Below is the current list of members that have identified a ROOT goal for 2018 and how many books they read by the end of March.
The percentage is calculated and a star awarded for those on target to reach their goals. More stars for farther toward their goal.
If anyone's number is incorrect, please let me know and I will make the necessary adjustments.
So go out there and dig those ROOTs.

I wanted to let you know that I have just this morning been able to update my March totals. I read 9 for the month, bringing my total to 13. I have updated my personal ticker & that change should show tomorrow. I did not touch the group one.
I am sorry for this inconvenience. Our internet can be sketchy. :-(

I'm a little behind but considering I've only been reading novels and no comics I'm really proud of myself! And I've already finished my first ROOT for April! Finished Jules Verne's L'etoile du Sud (The Vanishing Diamond) last night and really enjoyed it.
4leslie.98
First ROOT of April finished! My thread and all tickers updated.
Thanks once again Chèli for compiling all the numbers and managing the threads! My ROOTing fell off a bit in March (too many books from the library) but I will try to chalk up some extra this month to help widen our margin ;)

Thanks for doing this amongst everything else going on in your life, Chèli.

My numbers are correct. 3 stars! Yippie!
Thanks, Chèli, for keeping track of everybody's stats.
I'm just wondering what we will/must do with the zero readers/posters.

Thanks for doing those stats, Chèli. I'm ready to go!

Yesterday I finished up my first ROOT of April: Doctor Who: Classic Doctors, New Monsters, Vol. 1. I can never go wrong with Big Finish audio dramas.
11rabbitprincess
And this morning I decided to abandon another ROOT: Return of the Sphinx, by Hugh MacLennan.
This brings my YTD total to 24. Almost halfway to my goal!
Both my ticker and the group ticker are up to date.

Hi Cheli, I'm happy with 2*. Glad the group is back on track.
Hope your Mum is stable and your warmer weather sees her improving. In NZ we are in Autumn, my favourite season. Still enjoying warm days but cooler nights. I hope the weather holds for another couple of weeks for my youngest daughter's wedding beside the sea.

>12 HelenBaker: Thank you for your kind wishes. Mom is doing so much better, she's even started her usual rant about going back to the house that she lived in for 60+ years. That will never happen, but even so, it means that she is definitely recovering.

Second ROOT of the month! 11th book of the year! I'm having such a great year!
Finished reading yesterday Akira Yoshimura's Le convoi de l'eau which was beautiful and haunting as most of his works can be. Although less obvious in terms of what he is trying to present, I enjoyed this deep moment in the mountains.
Maybe I should just read all the short books I own to pad my numbers; it's going well so far. :P

1st root for April - East of Eden by John Steinbeck. 17/48. I will pause to read a new one for book group.
17Robertgreaves
>15 CurrerBell: Have you read the sequel, Children of God?
18clue
My first ROOT of the month is Blood Sisters by Barbara Keating and Stephanie Keating. The first in the Langani Trilogy, it follows three girls from boarding school in Kenya in 1957 to young adulthood in 1966. I liked it a lot and look forward to book 2, Durable Fire.
19CurrerBell
>17 Robertgreaves: I read both of them when they were first published, so it's been years and years. I'll be doing a reread of Children of God later this month (it's for the "Clash of Cultures" theme on the Reading Through Time group), after I've done some Rosamond Lehmann for the Virago monthly author read.
20Familyhistorian
Looks like we are still doing OK. I already have one ROOT done. Maybe I can read more ROOTs this month and get another star. Now if only I could resist putting holds on library books.

I listened to Queste, book four in the Septimus Heap series. That makes all the difference in this title. If I had read it I would think it was just another swords and sorcerers epic and standard fare for upper elementary grades to read or for reading aloud to all ages. What sets this series apart is the incomparable narration by Gerard Doyle. He makes any book a delight to listen to. The recorded version would have lots of uses in a school setting as well. Recommended for those who like Harry Potter or need a long book with an excellent narrator for a long trip.
28cyderry
>27 benitastrnad: Why did you have to do that? Make it sound so wonderful, I couldn't resist? Now that's 4 more books (at least) that I have on my wishlist. Thanks.
29CurrerBell
>27 benitastrnad: I think rats can be such dear little critters. I think it's outrageous how they're so often cast as the villains. That's what I love about Septimus Heap – Stanley Message Rat (who, in caes you didn't know, as his very own Twitter account).

3 ROOTs finished while LT was down, including (finally) the mammoth Infinite Jest! My thread and all tickers updated.

I did not know that Stanley had a Twitter account. Is he using that to deliver his messages instead of traveling? How boring for him.
I don’t have a Twitter account, or a Facebook, or any of those other accounts. LT is my only social media outlet. Stanley is much more “with it” than I am. But then He isn’t on LT.

Now that Stanley has a family how does he find time for Twitter?
39CurrerBell
>37 benitastrnad: >38 benitastrnad: Maybe that's why he got a Twitter account, because he's so devoted to his family that he doesn't want to do that much traveling any more? And Stanley is getting on in years, and the kids have taken on a lot of the heavier part of the business.
ETA: You know, getting off on this subject of rats makes me want to do a reread of Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. And I see the author's daughter wrote two sequels. Dang it, but isn't this Group about ROOTing? Not about getting more books into the house?

I found the ending very unique in the world of fantasy. The author really did something fancy with it. I would courage you to read it as I thought it was an interesting way to end the series.

I finished reading the April book for the Two Guido’s mystery challenge. A Walk In The Dark by Gianrico Carofiglio This one turned out to be not much of a mystery but it made the reader like the hero a who lot more.

I've added ROOT #4 for April (#25 for the year) to all tickers - Kelly J Baker's Sexism Ed which I got as an Early Reviewer book. It's my first 5* book of the year (and my first 5* ER too).
57benitastrnad
I finished reading my nonfiction history book for the Non-fiction Challenge run by Suzanne (Chatterbox.). It was an excellent work of narrative non-fiction by Frederick Taylor. Though it is one of the books that has resided on my bookshelves for a long long time (15 years - at least) Dresden: Tuesday, February 13, 1945 was really good reading. It has extensive notes, bilbiography, and appendices, that combined with the text do much to settle the dispute about the actual number of casualties the city experienced. It was well worth the time it took to read it.

>91 leslie.98: I gave it 4****, perhaps narrowly so. I might well have rated the play 4½**** but I was also rating the quality of the supplementary materials (it's a Norton Critical) and I'd give them 3*** or at best 3½*** – hence the overall rating of 4****. There were some good critical essays, but overall they tended to be a bit repetitive; and like a lot of the more recent NCEs, the critical styles too frequently tend toward "acadamese."
One thing, after reading the supplementary materials – the play might well act better than it reads, especially once you appreciate the centrality of dance to the performance.

Finally back with another root - Fugitive Pieces by Anne Michaels. I have waited a long time to read this book but fear I didn't do it justice as it was a busy week with my daughter's wedding and my reading was some what disjointed and lacking in focus. Nonetheless a very good book. 20/48
103Jackie_K
I don't think I will have any more finished for April now (but am pleased with a total of 7, none of which were abandoned!). I am on a weekend course this weekend, and so will have to catch up with the stuff I'd normally do over the weekend (washing, etc) on Monday, so probably less reading than usual. I've already made a start on May's reads though.

I've squeaked in one more ROOT for April: Kenilworth, by Sir Walter Scott. I've added this to my ticker and the group tickers. Hoping to read more ROOTs in May.

I am reading a nonROOT of 500+ pages, so I will not finish an other ROOT this month.
I have read 28 ROOTs in April, giving a total of 100 (of 200) ROOTs this year. Updated my own & the group goal ticker.

I finished Western Star by Craig Johnson. This is the latest in the Walt Longmire series and I buzzed through this one in a week. Lots of thrilling reading.
I hope to get one more done this month as I only have about 30 pages left in another book and should finish it tonight.

I finished 2 more ROOTs this weekend & hope to squeeze in one more before Tuesday. My thread and all tickers are updated. I notice that there was a considerable discrepancy between the 2 group tickers (~30 books); I was tempted to make the percentage ticker agree with the counting one but didn't.

I finished another book right under the wire! South of the Northeast Kingdom by David Mamet. This one of the titles in the National Geographic Directions series that I have been steadily reading through this year. This was book 11 for me out of the series. It wasn't as good as some of the other titles in the series, but I was surprised to learn that he has lived in Vermont (year round - not just for the summers) for 40 years.

My final three ROOTs for April - The Interpretation of Murder, The Stone Diaries and War and Peace. That's seven in total for April and 30/60 for 2018.
All tickers updated.

>105 cyderry: What a cute photo! Molly Kate looks like she is enjoying herself.
I am calling it at 5 roots for April because I don't have time to review the other 2 ROOTs that I finished so don't want to confuse my numbers. It is hard to remember that I have to do my reviews earlier in the day to have them show in the correct month because I am in the last time zone in North America.

>125 Familyhistorian: I forget how, but it is possible to set LT to show the time and date where you are. WIB, my time zone, is 11 or 12 hours ahead of the east coast of North America (depending on the time of year), and I have no scruples about starting and finishing each month's challenges earlier than other people.

>125 Familyhistorian: adding to >126 Robertgreaves:. I don’t think reviewing books is a mandatory expectation either. I also agree, a few hours or even days, give and take. It has always been okay.
129CurrerBell
>126 Robertgreaves: You can set your time zone at https://www.librarything.com/settings/account but I don't know what you mean by setting the "date." You can set the date format but the actual date is going to be determined from the time, relative to GMT.
130Robertgreaves
>129 CurrerBell: I set it to my time zone years ago. So long ago I'd forgotten how I did it.
I mean the date 1 May starts at midnight where I am, not at midnight where the LT servers are.
