2019 Group Annual Challenge : A Century of Mystery and Suspense Books.

This is the collective Group Challenge for The Annual Challenge for 2019 where, between us, we are looking to read a book published every year since 1920.

To get a book added to the challenge post it below when you have read it, giving the book title, author and the year it was published. I will then allocate it to the right year. Feel free to keep adding books even if the year has already been covered, as it will be interesting to see which is the most popular year for books during the past hundred years.

No One Knows by J.T. Ellison - 2016

>60 Andrew-theQM: There is a DVD documentary about Shackleton's journey. While it's fascinating and very informative, you have to pity those poor men that found themselves stranded in that God forsaken place. They said it took him months in the small boat to try to find land and help for those he had to leave behind. He was amazed that more weren't dead when he was finally able to return.

Question - for those of you who read Bird Box by Josh Malerman would you consider this a mystery/suspense novel? The labels in Goodreads have it as a mystery and a psychological thriller but the primary descriptions are Horror, Dystopian and Post-Apocalyptic. Just wondering what you thought since I'm not far enough in to have an opinion yet.

Everyone knows the creatures are out there but it's a mystery & suspense situation as to just what they re going to do...will they find Melanie and her children or any of the others that attempt to escape? I don't know how far into it you are so don't want to say too much about the things that happen after the escape but I would call it mystery & suspense...or at least mystery/horror

So far, it's interesting but I could just slap Malorie in some of the flashbacks -- she's SUCH a mouse!

This is enormous already and it's only one month's worth from basically 9 people. I am impressed. This challenge has been an overwhelming success already as it has brought people out that have been members for years and now they are coming forward and participating.

Frustratingly Agatha Christie had 3 books published in 1942 and four books published n 1944, but none published in 1943 - according to Fantastic Fiction..

>255 Andrew-theQM: I started out well with the challenge and then got sidetracked with newer books when I started working my way through a couple of series (Witchless in Seattle by Dakota Cassidy, Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear, Hanover House by Brenda Novak, Mike Bowditch by Paul Doiron, to name just a few!). But I have to say that I did find some new authors by reading some of the classics - Marsh, Christie, etc though I have definitely decided that the "hard boiled" mysteries of the 50's like Chandler and Hammett are not my thing.

Have found a few gems among the older books and want to read a whole lot more of the golden oldie authors.

In the older crime series it certainly doesn’t seem to make any difference if you ROO. Found the older books set the scene fir a loottt longer. Unlike modern books that tend to be straight in there with a murder.
