I finished my very first Halloween Treasure Hunt. I have to admit I took much advice from all those that were gracious to post hints. It took me much longer than a lot of you but I had a great time. Thank you to everyone involved in putting this together. Happy Halloween!

Super fun! I got 13/15 pretty quickly on my own, was stuck on #4 and #15, and with LTers support, easily got them.

Thanks to everyone at LT for putting this together and for all my fellow LTers for their hints.

I love Halloween and thanks for making it even more fun!

I am very ashamed of myself that #5 was the last one I got.

Finished today, mopping up after getting the first dozen in a single sitting the day the hunt went live. #5 was the last one I got too! I haven't read those books, mind you. I guess I can take a perverse pride of sorts.

So far 14 from 15 but still struggling with #14

Cheers

>5 Macbeth: Jackson is the author and the name of the book rhymes (poorly) in the clue. Also the clue in #97's post in the previous thread helped me get #14.

Thankyou krazy4katz - I started working my way through the plethora of authors then tried

A search of "Horror, Jackson" which unearthed a link between the two - which narrowed down the list of authors significantly and I found my last pumpkin in only a few clicks

Cheers

>9 SOlson096:

#2 This answer is NOT a book page, it's a tag page. Singular vs plural matters for the answer as well.

#14 See comment 6 above.

#15 I think there are some good clues for this one in the original thread. I honestly can't think of any. Sorry!

Edited: Oct 30, 2019, 5:36 pm

For #15, I went by searching 1973 gothic books.
#14 is a short stort, written by____ Jackson.
#2 it's probably the first creature you thought of :))

>14 mnleona: You can find the spoiler tag instructions at the top of the first page of this thread. I'd copy and paste them, but they've done some nifty trick that lets them type the spoiler tags without it becoming hidden that I can't figure out for the life of me.

This was fun! I love Halloween and this was a treat! Got all but 2 pumpkins out of 15.... will let it go for now.

The hunt is finished
I hope you had fun and found all of the clues.
We'll certainly be having another hunt soon, so check back often.

1600 members found at least one item.
855 members solved all of the clues.

I still don't understand what the first two lines of #5 have to do with the answer.

22PawsforThought
Oct 31, 2019, 6:05 pm

>21 rgurskey: Joanne is J.K. Rowling's real first name. And Merlin is a wizard, like Harry himself (and if I remember correctly, the phrase "Merlin's beard" is used throughout the books as a replacement for "OMG", etc.)

so when will we get the badge? :)

25Zoes_Human

>24 toast_and_tea: The badges have to be done manually so it will take some time. Typically around a month, but there have been times when it has taken longer.

I got lucky with #3 and #14 given that I've read both stories that were the answers. #14 I read back in high school, but I've never forgotten it, and I just happened to have recently been looking up stuff by the author.

Ah, I usually manage to do (i.e. finish, though via relying heavily on clues from others) these, but I just got too busy this time. I did a few, but never got back to read through the clues to help me finish. Hopefully next time, I will have more time to join back in the fun! I do always enjoy these!

Hi! A few "End of Hunt" things:

1) Our 5 t-shirt winners selected from the over 800 of you who found all 15 pumpkins are: @K.Lorraine, @Ally.Rose39, @djryan, @papyri, and @JudithElaine. Congratulations! I will be in contact with those winners soon about prize arrangements.

2) Profile upgrades are done for anyone who found at least 5 pumpkins. If you have a free account and found at least 5 pumpkins, you have been upgraded to a Lifetime account.

Thanks all for playing!

Maybe it's a caching thing and I'm too eager ... but I just checked and I don't have a pumpkin badge in my profile and I DID find all 15 pumpkins.

>31 LibraryCin:
Yes, I know ... but I guess I read kjgormley post # 29 as stating that all the badges HAD been assigned. On re-reading I think the comment is meant to describe what the awards will be, not that the upgrades have actually been done.

33LibraryCin
Nov 5, 2019, 7:46 pm

#29 just mentions the t-shirt winners and the profile upgrades; it doesn't mention the badges (unless I'm completely out to lunch!).

34PawsforThought
Nov 6, 2019, 2:12 am

Yeah, profile upgrades and badges are different things. Profile upgrades usually happen more or less immediately after the hunt, whereas badges take longer to arrive. They always DO arrive eventually, so just wait.

I found out 15 pumpkins. So I will get a 'pie badge' and 'lifetime account'. But what really is a lifetime account? Might be a silly question, but how is it different from my current free account?

37krazy4katz
Edited: Nov 17, 2019, 2:01 pm

There is no difference. Since you already have a lifetime account you will just get the badge.

ETA:
Oops! Sorry, got it backwards. Check >38 norabelle414: for the correct answer. I guess it has been a long time...

I received notice of a Pumpkin badge this morning, but don't believe I participated in the hunt. Did anyone else get a badge and doesn't think they should have?

I'm not concerned for myself personally, just trying to determine if something went awry in the badge update script.

50MarthaJeanne
Feb 18, 2020, 4:44 pm

You get the badge for even one clue found. You might have just chanced on one of the right pages during the hunt.
