Happy Valentine’s Day!

We've written 14 romantic clues for you to solve. Read and solve each clue, and find the page on LibraryThing that matches your solution. When you find the right solution, you’ll see a banner at the top of your screen announcing that you’ve found a heart. Remember: it's not necessarily a work page!

You have one week—until Friday, February 21st at 5pm EST—to find as many hearts as you can.

As in past hunts, we'll be awarding profile badges to anyone who finds at least one heart, upgrading accounts to lifetime memberships for anyone who finds at least five, and anyone who finds all 14 will be entered into a drawing for a LibraryThing or TinyCat t-shirt of their choice.

Hooray, got them all, with a little help from google!

>14 bellsreads: when you have a guess, enter it into the site search (not to be but often confused with Your library search). You can then use the links in the side menu of the search results. The correct answers where the roses have been hid will be authors, books, tags, and Common Knowledge things: character and place.

When you've found a heart, a banner will appear at the top of the page. Your treasure hunt main page will update by graying out the hint and showing how many hearts you've collected.

There will be clues around the coming days. ;)

That was fun! Got them all in the end but almost gave up on #5

I think I'm getting better at these clues - but I'm still stumped on #10 and #14.

Stuck on #4 & #14...

My problem is that I don't really read romance.

Still working on 6, 8 and 11. The city in 6 is pretty obvious, but I have tried titles and tags and came up with nothing. Same goes for 11; I know the goddess has two names, but I'm not getting anything for either one. Also tried the genre, but nada. Thought I had 8 roses or red roses but can't find it.

I'm in the same boat as you with #11. I've checked Common Knowledge for both goddesses' names, and looked through a few books of mythology.

Need help with 5, 6, 8, 11 and 13

At last! I got them all. #8 was holding me back after trying one word for titles, tags and any word combination I could think of. I'm sure I went to the right page early today and was unsuccessful but after reading >58 clamairy: I tried again and got the heart! Thank you.

I found the author, but was wondering why the banner didn't show up. Tried several times, then i noticed that the second tab open was on... Goodreads.

For #14 searching for the first name did not come up in the first page of results, though it logically should have sorted there. This tripped me up for quite a while after I knew roughly what I was searching for.

Yay, got them all, with the help of a few hints from here for about 4.

I am almost there, need some help with #5 and #14

Yaaay, I've finally got them all! :D :D :D Some were pretty obvious but really hard to find, I've had to click on everything serveal times till it worked...
For the others I needed clues...

Did you choose not to have a banner this time? I happened by chance to see this on FB, otherwise I would have missed it, not coming into Talk frequently. I also rarely look at my Home page, and the LT newsletter seems to be broken for me. I miss the banner.

I found all 14... but had the most trouble with #6... I knew what I thought should be the answer, but finding the right page was another matter entirely! All's well that ends... and I can't wait for the next one.

It appears that I don't have a badge, though. Is it supposed to be awarded automatically? I got all the answers on the Halloween hunt right, and never got a badge for that, either.
I'll try to be an adult about it, and not pout too much.

Badges are not awarded automatically or right away. It happens after the Hunt is over, and has to be done manually, as I understand it, so it often takes a very long time.

This seemed an easier puzzle than most...except #13 - I seem to have a block on this one.

Just completed all 14. I did manage 7 without any hints at all, but needed a nudge for the rest.

BTW, I got credit for some of the clues but never saw the little bar above the right page. For instance with #11 which I was sure I knew but I never got a bar showing up and then all of a sudden when I refreshed the treasure hunt page it was checked off.

I got all but 2 on my own. #10 and #14 are out of my genres, I fear. I'm going to follow up on some of the hints above now.

I got all 14 but I still don't know where the answer page for #6 was. I am pretty sure the "You got it!" banner didn't show up when I was blitzing all the links for the answer.

Anyhow, I had a fun time all the same and pat my shoulders. I would do the same for LT staff for prepping the hunt again. I can't thank you enough. ☺

Can anyone give me some help on clue 12. I'm really stuck on it. I've got all of the rest. I think I know the answer, and that is - I'll just give the initials of the author P. N. . I've tried that author and his works , though not all of them. Thanks in advance.

Yay, never done one of these before without a hint or two....first time!

I've got them all and mostly without help. I think I'm doing better with each quiz - when's the next!

#6 hint: All you have to do is search for one very specific Shakespeare's book

10 found so far. Now it's time to check clues for the other four.

Up to 12 now. I can't seem to find #9, tho I'm pretty sure it relates to The Farewell based on a previous hint.

Thank you everyone! I had to use your hints for 1,2,3,12,13, and 14 - did pretty well on my own for the rest! For some reason I didn't connect the dots on a few which seemed really obvious once I saw your hints pointing me in those directions! Do admit - the clue about the Artic threw me for a loop! lol Hope everyone is doing well with the hunt - if you're stuck just ask, I might be able to help you out!

I got 8 of them without any hints (I always need hints for many; this is pretty good for me). With hints, I've now got them all except #2.

I found this really difficult. Especially #3 and #6 cause I was in the wrong author but right text, then clicked everything in Common Knowledge without seeing a heart, only to refresh the page and realize I did actually find it somewhere. Thank you everyone SO MUCH for your clues!

I've only managed to work out seven of these ... but whilst trying I've been to some seriously weird and educational places on the web ...

I finally figured out # 14 and have all my hearts!! Whew! That was fun!

Thanks, Micheller7. I wasn't actually stuck on # 12, I was stuck at 12 hearts total. I knew # 12 immediately! One of his poems is one of my favorites of all time! I just finished up all 14 hearts this morning! Woohooo!

Finally finished. I am not sure how to do spoilers but they helped me. One was so simple but I made it hard.

Ugh, I’m stuck on #5. Neither the riddle nor the hints so far make sense to me.

If we don't read romance, is there any way of finding #14 based on *only LT searches based on what's in the clue*? I have a personal rule against using non-LT help, like Google, for these hunts - it seems to me like to be "fair" they should be things that, if you don't know them off the bat, you can figure them out based on LT information.

They haven't given out the pumpkin badges yet. Badge distribution is a manual process (many, many things at LT that you'd think would be automatic are manual), and they haven't gotten around to it yet. My guess would be that they'll do both that one and this one together sometime next month.

Yes, there is a way. I did it.

Working on the assumption that the author's last name would rhyme with "Puillory", I thought about substituting the first letter. That gave me a couple of potential last names, which I ran through an LT author search. One found me an author with a rhyming last name and a first name that's a flower. That turned out to be correct.

I found 13 without help. The only clues in the thread that I have seen for the one exception (prior to my question) mention Googling.

Badges for this, and for the previous Halloween Hunt have gone out.

Badge names were changed post-message:

*Pumpkin Pie for participating in the 2019 Halloween Hunt
*Rogue's Rose or participating in the 2020 Valentine's Day Hunt

Other names were sent out in error, before I could get input from team.

*Finder's Flower or participating in the 2020 Valentine's Day Hunt
*Treasure Tart for participating in the 2019 Halloween Hunt

"Finder's Flower" was judged too sexual, which, frankly, I didn't think of.
Nobody liked "Treasure Tart." I vetoed various "piece of pie" ones as being sexual for (my, older) generation.

In future, we should solicit suggestions from members.

I quite liked 'Finder's Flower' - the sexual connotation passed me by, but I am old!!

'Treasure Tart' however carries a derogatory message...………

Nice hunts, though - I appreciate all the hard work to set them up.

Yay, I got all 14! It only took me a little over an hour, and the use of just a few clues, but otherwise I got them fairly easily. It was fun! :-)

I only need #3 and #10 but I am calling it a night. Will try again tomorrow.

I'm glad the State of the Thing email included this hunt, I would've totally missed it otherwise. Been a horrible LTer/reader lately. I've only found 3 so far and it's looking like I may rely more heavily on thread-clues than usual, my mind apparently isn't very romance-oriented.

I got 10 on my own and the other four with hints from here. There were at least two of my 10 that I was clicking around on things I _knew_ were related, but never saw the banner; but the hearts showed up. Good enough. 2, 10, 12, and 14 were the ones I needed help on.

Going nuts ... have them all but #6 et je suis certaine que I know the answer == I just can't find it. I saw the hints, too, and no matter how many like-named links I clicked on, no dice ... ah, well.

Thanks yet again for another fun search! I think this one was the hardest one yet. I really had a time with #5 and #14: I wasn't sure I would ever find them. But I don't like giving up. I finally found them after a lot of false starts.

All 14 due to some help from the hints. I still do not know what site gave me the heart for #6, as I never saw it appear as I clicked through multiple pages. That one took me the longest! Thanks to all who gave hints, very helpful!!!

Such a fun quiz! I'm new to LibraryThing and this was also a great way for me to learn the site. I got stuck on a few (like #8) just because I needed to figure out exactly where I need to click to get the answers. But now I got all 14, which really boosts my mood this Friday!

I am born in Bulgaria, I know where Ovid was exiled, I know that this was part of the Bulgarian Kingdom (more than once and during all 3 of the kingdoms) and I did not make the connection either -- the time jump required just never occurred to me - plus I partially dismissed is as a sloppy was to rhyme with vulgarian. Oh well. "Change" and "Roman poet" got it for me (so I ignored the rest) although I did try Catullus first - he fits the holiday better. :)
