I started this thread to have a single point to track and reference long-standing LT bugs. The order here is entirely arbitrary (i.e. the order that I thought of them) and is not intended to indicate importance, duration, or perceived ease of fixing them. Reference threads likewise were the first I found, not necessarily the first report or the most comprehensive discussion of the issue. This list does not include absence-of-features, either those that used to exist and have been disabled for performance reasons or those that have been requested and not implemented.
As I track them down I will add thread references for each issue. I'm sure I have forgotten some; please add them and I'll edit the first post accordingly.
* Once a Canonical Name for an author has been set, clearing the CN causes the author name to be treated as blank (i.e. it appears to set an empty Canonical Name, and continue using the Canonical Name), rather than reverting to a majority-rules name. (reference post). FIXED September 28, 2010
* When using the "pink plus" to add a book to the Wishlist, if a single result is found it is added to Your Library instead (reference thread).
*In-catalog editing of Dewey numbers strips leading zeros. (reference thread) FIXED Sept 25, 2010!
* When searching your catalog (from the catalog itself) doing a multi-parameter search (e.g. author:foo title:bar), the field specifications are ignored and it searches "All Fields" for both of them. Single-parameter field specifications work properly. (reference thread)
* The tab-delimited export omits the delimiter after the tag field when there are no tags on a book, such that all subsequent fields are shifted over by one. FIXED Sept 25, 2010
* Books added from KB or Bol/Bruna occasionally show up properly on the "Add Books" page but come through with no title or author and are lumped into a single "black hole" work. (reference thread, and links from there)
* "My groups" on the Search box in Talk searches All Groups.
* The "Always alphabetize tags" checkbox is ignored. (reference thread)
* CK Awards data is not parsed correctly (see post 13 in this thread for links)
* Book counts are doubled on the editions page (reference post)

Well, it's more for my reference and that of other bug-chasers; I'm sure that they're aware of all these issues and have decided they're low priority.

On the blank Canonical Name issue, Tim's most recent comment is http://www.librarything.com/topic/92742#2021882

Another annoying one (probably related to the previously mentioned canonical names bug):
Only one canonical author name applies at a time, across all language sites, so adding a canonical name in German, French, etc will override the English one (until someone starts an edit war by changing it back). Recent example: http://www.librarything.com/topic/96560 where William Shakespeare ended up as William Szekspir on the English site.

Thank you very much LORAX.
Could you reduce my blurb below and add this bug to your collection. Another one I mentioned recently was fixed!
Under "Search your Library" the (advanced tips) says that source is one of the options. The example given is source:Library of Congress . If I use that model I get no results, for example:
source:University of Hong Kong (6 books)
source:Waseda University (3 books)
source:Universität Basel (12 books)
always returns the message: No books found.
I guess that will not be fixed soon, but I think the option should be removed from the "(advanced tips)". These are the fields you are suppose to be able to search: all, most, title, author, tag, isbn, date, lccn, dewey, source, subject.
greetings from Vienna, John

Several times reported here (http://fi.librarything.com/topic/80138) but never commented or acknowledged by any of the LT-staff...
In short, CK orig. publishing date -field in Catalogue view shows anything in brackets as double.
E.g. like this for one of Burroughs's Mars-books:
1964 (John Carter of Mars) (John Carter of Mars)
1942 (Skeleton Men of Jupiter) (Skeleton Men of Jupiter)
or
1936 (orig. eng.) (orig. eng.)
Looks ugly and is very annoying.

Noisy, Collectorator, can you provide links to threads on those issues (the earlier the better?)

Do undeletable reviews count as a long-standing bug? (I can't remember when it was still possible to delete reviews completely. I think the date reviewed graphic has always retained the dates even of successfully deleted reviews.)

The award pages are not parsing or displaying meta-information recorded in parenthesis correctly. Only one piece of data (usually the year) is showing.
For example, the Pulitzer Prize page only lists the year, not whether the award was won for fiction, poetry, etc. The books themselves still have all the data. The only issue is how they show on the award page.
There's a bug report (it's the first of the two bugs listed) and a longer discussion.

I don't remember a specific thread about the doubled edition numbers, but I remember exactly when it started. http://www.librarything.com/topic/91708 - Tim made a change to the way zero-edition works are counted, which he referred to in message 99 (May 31). The bug is referred to in message 104.

The author pics zeitgeist (thread here: http://www.librarything.com/topic/95522) is not working. I have uploaded a bunch of author pictures (not sure how many) but my personal zeitgeist on my home page says 0. I also have not received even a bronze medal for my efforts.

A good number of these bugs have not been fixed. Could lorax or somebody go though and make a new numbered combined list. These are the older bugs and this would be a good way to keep track of them as opposed to the newer bugs. Several things that are also still bugging me are mentioned here! The sources showing only numbers is, I guess, still in the newer category. I feel bugs should be here that are older than two months!
But???

Lorak, could you also add mine in msg 7, it is still not working. Would it be possible to number them and perhaps we can all keep an eye out to see it the one or other gets fixed.
Many thanks for your efforts!

Hi Lorax!
Well the long term bugs are still around. I really liked your idea of keeping up the list, but so far I have seen no additons! Could you please add the ones in msg. 7 and msg. 8. Also the one that keeps cropping up:
http://www.librarything.com/topic/86371 = Topic: upload picture for venue
Would it be possible to number them; much easier for reference purposes.
Thanks a lot. If you do not want to keep up the list - I understand - can someone else do it. I do not feel competent enough to do so. I did not really understand all the items you mentioned in message 1. We need an entomologist /coleopterist for this task!

Unfortunately only the author of a post can edit it. So if lorax is AWOL you're out of luck.

Re: 11, I don;t recall ever seeing an editions page that wasn;t doubled up actually. I seem to recall though a mention that if you went into the members page for the record, it would reset the edition counts. Never tried it though.

23> If it does, it's not immediate. One of my books where I'm the only person with a copy lists 2 copies on the editions page and always has. Just tried the members page thing, and if it does work, it'll take a while to see. On the other hand, the 0-copy marked as 1-copy has updated itself properly.
It'll be nice when the bug where 0-copy works influence the record display goes away. Really nice.

Re: 11, I don;t recall ever seeing an editions page that wasn;t doubled up actually.
I joined in January this year, and the edition counts weren't doubled until the end of May. (As I mentioned in #14, it appears to have started with a change on the 30th or 31st May.)

Jesus Christ.
I am in the process of moving cross-country. Keeping up with LT is very, very low on my priority list right now. I'll get back to this when I have things like an apartment taken care of.

Which points out how a Talk thread doesn't really work for something like this. If you made it a page in the wiki then anybody could edit it, but it would also have much less visibility.

+1 for those who give their reference links. (I do webhosting and Open Source software support. Getting links is like pulling teeth with some folks.)

>29 Noisy: I guess the better question is, does anyone plan on maintaining the wiki page? There have only been two edits since February.

Hey, guys/gals, who would like to keep up the "long standing bug tracking thread (list) started by LORAX?. It would be very useful to have a single list of the long-term bugs in one place. I would offer to, but I simply do not understand all of them. We need someone technically and editorially competent.
Anyway, thanks Lorax, it was a great idea! Let's see if someone can take it up.
