Description
This new edition has been carefully prepared in a proprietary compact format : All of the words, definitions, and examples have been preserved, but the explanations of word origins have been omitted to save space, as has Webster's lengthy technical introduction. Scripture references have been standardized in modern format, and many abbreviations have been spelled out for greater understanding. The text has been newly typeset with Charter typeface, making the text highly readable in spite of show more its small size. --from publisher's preface. show lessTags

This is the best dictionary to have around for sermon preparation, and I used it all the time. I love the detailed usages it gives as well as the etymology. I also love the scripture references that it gives for many words.
A great dictionary of the old definitions of words. It can be surprising how much word use can change over the years. Most of the examples of how words are used are pulled from very old texts like the Bible.
Okay, I haven't actually read this book but I have looked up a lot of words in it! Very interesting, great history.
