Description
If you think you know what's the worst than can happen while traveling, the essayists inNot So Funny When it Happened will set you straight. In over 30 scathingly funny pieces, a diverse array of authors shows just how quickly a pleasant vacation can turn into an embarrassing anecdote. In Vietnam, John Wood invents increasingly elaborate fictions to explain his ex-wife's "accidental death" in order to avoid humiliating himself by admitting he's divorced. Australian traveler Jayce White show more awakens in Zimbabwe to a baboon at his breakfast table helping himself to leftovers with primal flair. Collected inNot So Funny When it Happened, these stories and more show that when traveling, even the best of plans fall by the wayside. show lessTags

As with any anthology, this has its high points and its low points, but it's generally a congenial, enjoyable book that breezes by.
A collection of travel essays, all humorous, some hysterical. My favorites are "Hold on to Your Lunch" written by an airline attendant, "Dentist in Cameroon" and "Bad Haircuts Around The World" by someone who's experienced them.
Ironically, not as entertaining as Cahill's own collection of writings. Most the entrees were moderately amusing, but many didn't have the edge that great travel writing should have. A good airplane or summer book.
Cahill, Bryson, Adams, Barry, et al, should be funny, but all they could elicit were a couple of dry dusty road chuckles. This is a compilation of short magazine article style stories, interspersed with even shorter vignettes and really corny cartoons. There are apparently several other titles in this series, each with an equally clever title. Lite fare for the lite traveler.
This book was very amusing, I especially liked the Brad Newsham ones and 'Passing the Test'. About what I expected from this type of collection, some good laughs on a long bus ride.
Not so funny when you read it either.
