I only liked a few of the stories included here... The rest I found mediocre, and sometimes even confusing. ( )

Substance: The stories were interesting but not outstanding. Some were chapters taken from books, others were stand-alone stories. Most matched what you would expect from the authors. Contents by Beverly Cleary, Elizabeth Coatsworth, E. L. Konigsburg, Eleanor Estes, Madeleine L'Engle, Arthur Bowie Chrisman, Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, Charles J. Finger, Paul Fleischman, Virginia Hamilton. ( )

INTRODUCTION: Every year come Christmastime, as I sang in the junior choir at St. Stephen's Church, the alternate verses to "Deck the Halls" intrigued me.
Introduction: The assortment of ghosts, witches, and various pranksters are gathered here for a common purpose: to scare the wits out of us - deliciously; to make us shiver and shriek; and, above all, to delight us.
