This is a slim book, just 76 pages of works and text, but worth tracking down if you have an interest in Warhol. It includes color high-quality photos representing the beginning of Warhol's career, to his first soup cans, the silk-screened celebrities, some sculptures and, harder to find, his work in later years when he wasn't the new kid anymore and seemed to be struggling with his art. Copplestone analyzes each work and includes information about what was happening in Warhol's personal show more life at the time. show less
Definitely too small a book to do justice to this paintings, but I learned things for sure. I'd never even heard of Bosch before I was in The Prado about seven years ago and I saw his Garden of Earthly delights triptych. I was like "what on earth is this?" and was totally blown away by the year in which it was created. Crazy crazy. So yeah, good book, but if you have access to something bigger, go for the bigger one.
The book covers several of the more modern art movements in recent history and provides examples of art from these movements. The text only covers 40 pages with most of the book providing pictures. Not being knowledgeable about art, I found it moderately educational. I would consider some of the movements such as Cubism and De Stijl to be unappealing but it is good to know about them none the less.
Nine sections covering various periods n time, each written by a different author. A survey of the many artifacts, Monuments in Russia. The end papers have maps showing the location of each of the artifacts discussed.
