A critique of three metaphors of the Christian life (Imitation of Christ, Pilgrimage, and Ascent), followed by a critique of Christian spiritual practices (asceticism, worship/sacraments, service, prayer, and suffering). While I didn't agree with all her critiques when I read the book as a Christian, and I would be far more critical now than she is, I did find her analysis of the underpinnings what we would now probably call memes of Christian spirituality to be very interesting. Her show more methodology could be applied to any number of the memeplexes. show less
