Kauko Röyhkä

Avec is a story of a middle-aged man coming to terms with himself and his life, which he thinks is boring and mediocre. Harri is a moderately succesful architect but he thinks that his life is missing something. That something comes to his life in the form of a beautiful young woman called Eve, whose job is to be an avec (escort) for men.

The book is very well told, and the main character (whose internal monologue the book mainly is) really comes to life. The plot in itself does not add to show more much, and goes really surreal at the end. I would not probably have read the book, but it was fun to listen to while driving. The Finnish reader, Antti Reini, was wonderfully laconic, which suited the mood of the main character spot on. show less

Välde kuuntelee musiikkia ja on ihastunut Pikeen, josta tulee Miss Farkku-Suomi. Sen jälkeen PIkeä eivät oman luokan pojat suuresti kiinnosta, mutta Välde liittyy bändiin, alkaa kirjoittaa omia lauluja ja ihastuu vanhempaan Karaan. En Kauko Röyhkän elämävaiheista hirveästi tiedä, mutta sen perusteella mitä olen lukenut, ainakin osa tästä kirjasta taitaa muistuttaa hänen nuoruutensa vaiheita. Oli ihan jännä lukea Oulusta 1970-luvulla, vaikka siitä ei itsellä mitään show more kokemuspohjaa ole. Vähän ihmetetytti, miksi viimeisessä luvussa keskiössä onkin Katja, eikä Välde. show less
