Palmer shares his journal as he traverses his favorite mountain range, meeting the people he meets on the trail and some others he seeks out who also love the Range of Light, to engage them in discussing issues that abound like the granite boulders. A bit meandering, but well researched, with a Sierra Nevada almanac.
A lovely photographic tribute to the hemlock and beech forests of the eastern United States, along with a good accompanying text about the threats currently facing them from pest insects and fungi.
