The city quiet as death [short fiction] by Steven Utley

Don Horacio, a rich, cultured, misanthropic, agoraphobe, lives in a grand house by the sea, looked after by a housekeeper who says she has a qiant squid in her locket. She may well have as he is visited by a padre and a doctor, the latter telling him of baby universes for sale. Things do not end well. Atmospheric but opaque.

The City Quiet as Death by Steven Utley

Not really my kind of story, though it’s a kind that lots of people will appreciate. A maid carries around a locket containing, she says, a giant squid. Kind of dark fantasy of the Cthulhu variety. I’m not very Lovecraftian.
