Loading pages has seemed pretty slow for me, particularly, my Home and Profile pages. Once I'm into Talk, it's a little better.

C: What are you finding slow?
5rybie2
It just took 23 seconds for this thread to load. (Vista, Firefox 3.6) I've noticed incredible slowness going from page to page for some days now, often timing out.

I have firefox on xp professional and LT has been slow to load pages frequently as #1 states. Not that I am complaining greatly - LT is one of the best technically maintained sites {for free!!} that I have occasion to visit.

4 Everything. Several times this evening it has times out before the message box had loaded properly.
I agree with others that it has been very slow since Christmas. Other sites seem to be OK. In fact I am glad to see this thread, as I had begun to wonder if it was just me.
I've got a stack of books to enter, but I'll wait and see if things are better tomorrow.

I don't know what's going on. It's certainly not showing up in any of my states. The median generation speed for Talks pages is less than 1 second, and has been so for 24 hours at least.
I'll send a note to John.

Have only really been on Talk, but it seems to be slow to me: for instance, this message box was unusually slow to load. It's slow to go into a thread, and then it's particularly slow to return to the main talk screen. I just pictured a gaggle of book-happy, Christmas-present-laden LT people gleefully loading their new books into the system all at once and slowing things down. I'm not complaining, as this isn't a major inconvenience by a long shot (and I fully appreciate that what might be a little slow today might be just fine tomorrow); I just wanted to say that I'd noticed it, too.
Windows XP Professional, IE 7 (don't make fun of my OS and browser; it's work-mandated!)
ETA: Once I got this message submitted, I saw that, in the meantime, Tim had posted a message saying that he had someone looking into it-- he clearly types faster than I do! So I guess the situation is well in hand :)

>8 Collectorator: Do you think it is because my husband is home?
Funny you should say that Collectorator, years ago when I was working for a different company we had one bloke in the company who, I swear, was jinxed. It seemed like everytime the computers were playing up Max was in the room and the rest of the time they operated just fine. He was starting to get quite sensitive about the subject after we ribbed him for a few years.

Wouldn't dream of it! I'm stuck with the same combination at work, too.

I've been getting a lot more page timeouts the last few days as well.

Yesterday and today I have had the same problem with any page. Sometimes they load instantly, sometimes in 30-60 seconds, sometimes never so I needed to try again. Using IE8 and Win XP.
Next I tried my VPN connection to work with IE8 and Windows 7. Same problem.
Every other site works fast for me at home as well as in VPN.

Ok, I've been looking into this and I think I have some idea of what's going on. It's going to take a bit of poking around to figure out the best way to deal with things, which I'll get to later today when things have quietened down a bit. (Also, we've got friends visiting for lunch and I think I've exceeded the politeness threshold by sequestering myself away in my office for some time now.)
I'll update once I've made some changes.

I hardly ever post about LT slowness because I never know if it's LT or my stupid computer. I guess this time it's not my stupid computer!
26rebeccanyc
It was so slow for me just now that I actually went to the Is it Down for Everyone or Just Me site and it told me LT was down, but by the time I got back to my LT tabs they had loaded. Go figure. Thanks, Felius, for working on this.

I am now seeing delays with Talk (loading threads, loading the post a message form, posting) and widgets when I wasn't earlier today.

Anything?

I haven't had any problems and I'm in Saudi which has iffy internet. Windows NT and IE7 (again, work computer)

Much faster than yesterday (that's last evening EST I think).

It seems to be running at normal speed now, last night it was really bad when I was going through my collection and I finally gave up when I kept getting this page cannot be displayed message and today its all running fine!
Thanks so much!

It's not timing out as often today for me as it was yesterday, but I'm still having some problems. This fairly short text thread took more time to load than many; there is tremendous variability.
I have the recentest Firefox offered me on Windows 7 Home Premium with a cable connection.

Just timed out for me again, but it was better this afternoon.
40johninvienna
This is the slowest I have ever seen it. During Chirstmas (when I was not celebrating) and only 122-170 members were on line, it was quite fast. Today with 270-320 members on-line it is quite slow. For example when clicking on a book in one's library to edit, it can take up to 30 seconds to come "on screen".
41rybie2
Slow again this afternoon and worse this evening, and timing out many, many times... doesn't matter which computer or town I'm in, or what OS or browser I'm using.
42Lman
I don't know what you did John, but mine was working fine and has now slowed considerably when loading pages.
43susiesharp
Worked great earlier now is really slow again here too!
45timspalding
I've asked John to get me some statistics on this. What I find frustrating here is that my metrics don't show this. Apparently my metrics happen only once there's a connection, and so non-connections (which show up as slow connections in situations where the connection is tried and retried), aren't visible to me at all—except through members complaining. Members complaining is useful but also terrible as a measure of the seriousness of a problem and particularly about whether it's getting better or worse.

I have had problems with LT for last 3 weeks, slow to not moving at all. I do not feel it is LT's fault for I have a "visitor" that comes and goes. Can't complain as have loaded many, many books this month.
My visitor has been:
"http//books.google.com/books?jscmd=viewapi&bibkeys=&callback=ProcessGBSBook........"
There is more but that is all I have space for in the box so don't know the remainder. Computer says it is a "third party" that may be looking for info and to reduce security if I want it to come in.
It is off and on all day. Sometimes clicking on "refresh" will knock it off for a while.

Not sure if this helps but mine is particularly slow with links - from anywhere on the site, and with my home page talk...and it is varying up and down.

Things ought to be running much smoother at the moment. I've blocked some bots who were causing a lot of traffic and not playing by the rules.

It's turned into a Speedy Gonzalez! Much better than recently and with +260 users on-line!!!

That's just crying out for a thread of its own.

Heh - I'm getting a double dose. LT is much faster, and I finally clipped an Internet Gateway that was throttling my gigabit network down to 100mb...is wunnerful. Also I'm (apparently) going so fast I can't talk English good...
